Prep School Drops Native American Names for Fear of “Cultural Appropriation”

Dulwich Prep School, renowned for alumni such as Hugh Bonneville and John Simpson, is bidding adieu to its Native American tribal house names over ‘cultural sensitivity’ concerns. The Mail has the story.

He may not quite be the last of the Mohicans, but BBC veteran John Simpson last night took aim at his old school after it scrapped using Native American tribes for its house system.

Dulwich Prep London, a fee-paying all-boys school, feels the long-standing names constitute “cultural appropriation”. It says the changes follow concerns raised by some parents.

But critics have denounced the rebranding. Since 1916, pupils at the school – whose alumni also includes actor Hugh Bonneville – have been placed in one of four houses. Mr. Simpson, BBC World Affairs Editor, was in Mohican house.

Another house, Deerfeet, was named in honour of an Indian runner known as Deerfoot. The others, Chippeway and Ojibwas, were named in celebration of the Ojibwa people from the Great Lakes in the U.S. and Canada, also referred to as the Chippewa.

Deerfeet will now be called Lamassu, a mythical creature from Mesopotamia which had a human head and a bull’s body. The other three houses will be Phoenix, Pegasus and Gryphon.

Mr. Simpson told the Mail on Sunday: “I’m really depressed that something fundamental to the experience of every Dulwich Prep kid – which of us doesn’t remember whether he was a Chippeway, Deerfeet, Mohican or Ojibwa? – is being done away with.

“And to what end? So indigenous Americans won’t accuse Dulwich of cultural appropriation? Please. They’ve got better things to do.”

The new names are clear cultural appropriation from Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome. The houses should simply be numbered 1 to 4 to represent the school’s own white male European mathematical tradition… except that then it would be appropriating Arabic numerals.

It’s like that old joke where the wife buys the husband two ties for Christmas. A red one and a blue one. He carefully puts on the red one only for the wife to ask “Hey what’s wrong with the blue one”?

The Arabs appropriated the numbering from Indians.

Is Dulwich going to pay reparations to the besmirched Indian tribes for 100 years of cultural appropriation?

“Concerns raised by some parents” ———You mean the brainwashed easily manipulated ones. They will either be Black, Asian or silly White people bludgeoned into accepting their “white supremacy”

This just reminds me of the ridiculous Garrick Club story as well as a whole host of similar tedious stories, many that have been shared on this site: change for the sake of change. As if ‘progressive’ = ‘improvement’. What kind of person creates an issue out of thin air, seriously? Soon referring to history at all will be verboten because, after all, history of our various cultures is littered with actual events and people that some snowflake ‘tard somewhere will be offended by. They literally want to rewrite history, as well as our beloved literature, because if said snowflake reads an original ( non-sensitivity read and edited ) version of Tess of the D’urbervilles or The Famous Five, they might just have a mini breakdown and need to go lie down in a ”safe space” to recover from their trauma, with a selection of stress toys to aid emotional decompression.
Honestly, these people are pathetic AF. I’m fairly sure these guys could teach them a thing or two about ‘manning up’ ( in the most unisex way possible, obv ). This has to be Russia;

Concerns raised by some parents”

School authorities shorthand for passing the buck without having to name names or provide evidence.

The school made the decision but knowing it would generate kickback they passed the blame to an unidentifiable, amorphous blob…”some parents.”

I would put money on not one parent having raised this issue.

Another version of – ‘not me Guv.’

Random question: if anyone else is on their phones and reading the comments, do you see some usernames now have turned pink but most remain yellow? My name’s now pink, as is Ron Smith, Richard Austin and others. What’s the significance, do you think?🤔 It can’t be because we’re currently on the site because I wasn’t even logged in when I noticed the new colour scheme. Mystery..

Names are in red if I’m on another device, i.e laptop, but it’s always been yellow names on my phone. Now some have changed to pink. Maybe it’s just my phone. Maybe I’ll blame kiddo and she’s been fiddling about with the settings…

This is what you’re referring to. I saw this and it’s absolutely horrendous. The police released a statement in response to this going viral, but I can’t find it atm, and it’s complete BS. Along the lines of ”We tried all other options and this was a last resort but the cow only suffered a graze and has been checked by the vet and is fine”. It doesn’t look fine, it looks badly injured. As if anyone can run an animal over ( twice! ) and somehow predict the outcome that it’ll be grand afterwards;

We regularly get herds of local cows (or sheep) escaping and wandering into our front garden. Should I just shut the gate and drive up and down in the 4X4 to get them under control terminally?

Abuse children by denying them their education, social contact, play, force them to wear masks, jab them, alter their see = OK.

But hurt a calf = uproar. Funny old World.

I was a Chippeway, back in the early 1980s. If only the school had the headmaster I had back then. You didn’t mess with him, but he was fair, an excellent teacher and no PC nonsense.

This is cultural Marxism pure and simple. I suggest you all read this month’s edition of The White Rose Freedom Magazine. There you can find an interesting article by Steve Hunt explaining how the whole nefarious idea works.

Isn’t ‘cultural appropriation’ what the woke loonies these days call diversity and inclusivity… the celebration of other cultures and adopting them into the mainstream – eg EID, Black history month?

My guess would be that the naming was supposed to commemorate British allies in America during the seven years war. As opposed to during the ongoing reign un-native Americans nevertheless born there, there were (as far as I know) no genocides of native Americans born there under British rule and quite a bit of shared, honourable history during the fighting with the French.

Why do present-day Natimuricans, ie, descendents people who moved to this continent while present-day Alaska and Russia were still connected, want to erase this? And why should they have to power to? It’s certainly none of their business.
