Just Stop Oil Protesters Including Church of England Minister Try to Smash Magna Carta
Just Stop Oil protesters have targeted the Magna Carta in their latest environmental stunt as two protesters, aged 85 and 82, one a Church of England Minister, cracked the glass case surrounding the royal charter at the British Library in London. The Telegraph has more.
The library holds two of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta, with the others at Lincoln Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral.
Rev Dr. Sue Parfitt, an 82-year-old Anglican priest from Bristol, and Judy Bruce, an 85-year-old retired biology teacher from Swansea, entered the British Library at 10.40am.
After they cracked the glass, Rev Parfitt and Mrs Bruce glued their hands together, demanding an emergency plan to stop oil by 2030.
A Just Stop Oil spokesman said: “Clause 39 of the Magna Carta is one of four clauses still enshrined in U.K. common law, a so-called ‘golden passage’ that states: ‘No free man is to be arrested, or imprisoned, or in any other way ruined, except by the lawful judgement of his peers or by the law of the land.’
“Contrast that with civil law as it stands in 2024, where corporations are buying private laws in the form of injunctions that circumvent the people’s rights to a trial by jury for speaking out against the crimes of oil companies.”

Before she died my grandma, a wife of CoE clergy, strongly objected to the ordination of women clergy for reasons my father and I didn’t really appreciate at the time. It seems as with everything else she was entirely correct.

I am sorry but these old ladies can only be classed as brainwashed dreamers. I am sure they mean well. They believe the world is being destroyed by carbon emissions. But what people choose to believe is neither here nor there. People believe all manner of things that to other people are simply nonsense. When you “believe” things you are participating in religion, not science. But we cannot really expect that when people are bombarded on a daily basis about the “climate emergency” on mainstream TV News channels, led from the front by the BBC, that we all are forced to pay for, that people will not be easily manipulated, and that is what has happened with these two ladies. So you mean to tell me that the ladies in this article didn’t do this insanely stupid act purely because they’re the owners of XX chromosomes? That one of the ladies has the audacity to be both female AND a member of the clergy, hence her act of vandalism? ( If only she’d been a non-clergy woman, a bit like her partner in crime, then…) That actual *male* eco nutjobs do in fact exist?? Well, that’s a turn up for the books….
An observation, given that I’ve been commenting on this site for nigh on 3 years now, is that I’ve yet to read a single post by a woman disparaging, scapegoating, disrespecting or generally just slagging off men. But vice versa, on the other hand…..

Thanks for your reply. —–It is my observation that climate protesters can be from any group. I see lots of women and men laying down in the street blocking traffic. But maybe you will have noticed that there does not seem to be too many in headscarves or burqas doing that. Or too many black people. It all seems to be reasonably well off white people, maybe they are trying to compensate for their “white privilege” by doing the anti capitalist thing. ——–I wonder what you think.
This really illustrates how JSO are a cult. It makes me sad as well as angry. These women have been sucked into a cult and brainwashed. You can see it in them being encouraged to take the criminal action and then a “spokesman” explaining the reason after. But these women still bear responsibility for their acts, no question.

You know what .I have come to the conclusion that all these protestors are no more than simple vandals and should be treated as such . I expect that any day now the investigating plods will announce that the silly old vandal-ladies are mentally ill, which could very well be true – Alzheimer’s maybe, dementia of some kind. They certainly don’t appear to be compos mentis.
