Iran Launches Massive Drone and Missile Strike Against Israel

Following a drone strike in Syria that killed Iranian officials, Iran has retaliated by launching a large-scale attack on Israel, raising concern worldwide about the possibility of a wider conflict in the region. The Mail has more.

Hamas has gloated about last night’s devastating attack on Israel by Iran which led to a seven year-old girl being seriously injured – calling it a “deserved response”.

It comes after Israel said it “foiled” Iran’s unprecedented attack on its country and revealed 120 ballistic missiles along with 200 drones were used.

Last night, innocent civilians were forced to flee to bomb shelters across the nation.

Iran sent the salvo of missiles in response to a drone strike at the beginning of April in Syria that killed 12 Iranians, including two top generals.

This morning, Hamas said in a statement: “We in Hamas regard the military operation conducted by the Islamic Republic of Iran a natural right and a deserved response on the crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus and the assassination of several leaders of the Revolutionary Guards,” the Times of Israel reports.

The Israeli military today said that Iran’s unprecedented overnight attack on Israel has been “foiled” with hundreds of missiles and drones intercepted with the help of the United States and allies.

Reports in Israel suggested RAF and U.S. warplanes had shot down some Israel-bound Iranian drones over the Iraq-Syria border area amid the attack. But Victoria Atkins has said she is “not in a position to confirm or deny” whether British jets have already shot down Iranian drones.

The attack, which began late yesterday, marks a major escalation of the long-running covert war between the regional foes, and comes against the backdrop of the ongoing war between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

A seven year-old girl from a Bedouin town near Arad was injured by falling shrapnel at around 2am and is in serious condition “fighting for her life” at Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, the Times of Israel reported.

The medical centre confirmed she is now in the hospital’s paediatric intensive care unit receiving treatment for a major head wound.

Iran today warned Israel of a larger attack if it retaliates against the overnight drone and missile assault – adding that it has warned the U.S. not to back Israeli military action. It said any “reckless” Israeli move will prompt “stronger response”.

Speaking to Sky News, spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner said the IDF is “poised and prepared” and will decide whether it will retaliate in a meeting later today. He said it is “extremely tense” and its aerial defences remain on “high alert”.

Iran“s proxies and allies also carried out coordinated attacks on Israeli positions as sirens sounded in many places and with blasts heard in the skies above Jerusalem early Sunday.

Iran had repeatedly threatened to retaliate against Israel for a deadly April 1st air strike on its Damascus consular building, and Washington had warned in recent days that the reprisals were imminent.

Late yesterday, the Israeli army said Iran had launched a “massive swarm of over 200 killer drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles”.

The army said it had scrambled dozens of fighter jets to intercept “all aerial threats”, and was working with the U.S. and other allies to stop the launches.

People in Jerusalem sought cover, while some residents stockpiled water. …

Earlier today, the Israeli army said that 99% of the launches had been intercepted.

None of the drones and cruise missiles that were launched towards Israel had entered its territory, Hagari said, and “only a few” ballistic missiles reached Israel.

“The Iranian attack was foiled,” military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a televised statement.

U.S. President Joe Biden reiterated Washington’s “ironclad” support for Israel after an urgent meeting with his top security officials on the spiralling crisis.

Leaders from the G7 will hold a video conference later today to discuss the Iranian strikes on Israel, according to Italy – which holds the rotating presidency of the group of developed nations.

“The Italian presidency of the G7 has summoned G7 leaders for a video conference early this afternoon”, the Government said. The G7 groups the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Canada. …

The Iranian army has said its attack “achieved all its objectives”.

Mohammad Bagheri, the Iranian armed forces’ Chief of sSaff, told state TV: “Operation Honest Promise was completed successfully from last night to this morning and achieved all its objectives.”

Worth reading in full.

Stop Press: It’s hard to imagine Iran’s much-anticipated attack on Israel going any worse for the Islamic Republic, says Lazar Berman in the Times of Israel.

What were the objectives, exactly?

They killed some of ours! Kill some of them!

Usual ‘warfare’ in the middle-east. In more civilized times, this would have been considered a war crime.

All that money and effort expended to injure a 7yo Bedu girl. Impressive!

And that was an accident, ie, she got hit by something which fell from the sky after a missile (of whatever kind) was destroyed.

Iran knew it would fail as a traditional, military, percussive attack. What was the real objective?

That is the key question.

Maybe Iran are all bark and no bite and that attack was as much as they could muster.

But I seriously doubt it.

Nevatim air base (F 35s) in the Negev desert was the target of the attack. It was a phased attack with a mass of decoys.

Israeli Air Force F-35s continued to take off and land from the base.

The long-range Arrow air defense system destroyed most of the 120 ballistic missiles while they were still outside the atmosphere (exoatmospheric interception).

Seven missiles penetrated the Israeli ABM defence system.

The sheer scale of the attack means that it is unlikely to be the end of the story…….in fact it definitely will not be……

When the only objective is randomly kill some civlians, it’s really easy to achieve. They should have provide a tailor-made gene-vaccine for that. The government of Israel would happily have injected the population with that itself.

The moment people start talking about strategic air warfare — that’s not only a dead horse, it’s meanwhile a thoroughly fossilized dead horse – it’s time to stop listening to them. Terror bombing civilians has not and won’t ever accomplish anything beyond mass murder and mass destruction of historic buildings. You’d probably be surprise how architecturally bland all modern German cities are. That’s because bomber command burnt basically everything someone built in Germany since the middle-ages to the ground. Most of what looks historically today has been rebuilt after the war. Yet, the German armament industry reached its highest output in winter 1944 and the second world war didn’t end until all of Germany was occupied by enemy troops.

The west is a gay club with nukes and windmills. Without industrial capacity you cannot dictate to others. Expect more of this as other nations realise how pathetic the deep state really is.

Brilliant. Are you sure the west has windmills or does it buy them from China? We know the solar panels come from China.

Good point, just a gay club with nukes it is then.

For me, it’s time the IDF focussed its considerable firepower on Iran.

‘The regime’ in Iran is now in its 45th year and it even survived real war (first gulf war, where Saddam Hussein was supposedly the good guy, ie, supported by the USA). No amount of terror bombing by the Isreali air force will disrupt it. That’s just more of what all these ‘soldiers’ do best: Kill people who don’t shoot back. Otherwise, it could become dangerous.

Iran has committed to Israel’s annihilation by 2040. They have a day every year to celebrate it. Maybe you guys should get the bus over there.

It cost Israel over a billion dollars to shoot down Iranian sacrificial drones. Iranian ballistic missiles hit their military targets. A great success for Iran. “Iran deployed a very clever and anticipated doctrine that makes the entire Western defence system obsolete. Iran sent around a hundred of relatively primitive and slow drones that warned Israel of a coming attack in hours. These drones made British and American pilots extremely busy during the night. Then about five hours later, Iran launched dozens of ballistic missiles aiming at the Israeli Negev desert – an area sparsely populated. Israel intercepted most of these missiles. But then came the slightly more sophisticated and accurate missiles that successfully hit Nevatim IAF base in the Negev. Nevatim air base is the home for the squadron that hit the Iranian embassy in Damascus two weeks ago and escalated to Israeli Iran conflict into a war. By the time Israel’s air defence system is exhausted being engaged with many low grade rockets the real dangerous missiles appeared in the sky and they hit their targets. This strategy makes every American base and aircraft carrier into a sitting duck. Needless to mention that Israel wouldn’t be able to defend… Read more »

“These are not the take-aways anyone in the establishment media is going to give you. But here are the most obvious lessons to draw as we stand on the brink of a world war:
* Israel incited the Hamas attack on October 7 because for 17 years it throttled Gaza, destroying its economy and denying its people the most basic freedoms, and executed or kneecapped any Palestinian who tried to protest – all in breach of international law.
* Israel incited Iran’s missile strike tonight because it goaded Iran over and over again, killing its citizens with impunity, violating its sovereignty, and making a mockery of its national security – all in breach of international law.
* Israel left Hamas and Iran with a stark choice: either continue to be serially humiliated or strike back. When they finally did strike back, Israel, the US and Europe denounced them both for supposed ‘aggression’.
* The West has not only invoked a supposed Israeli right to ‘self-defence’ – cover for its warmongering – but their own right to be complicit in Israeli aggression.
* The West’s political-media class are fully responsible for what comes next.”

As I understand it a large area of norther Israel has been evacuated for months because Hezbollah has been lobbing rockets over there pretty indiscriminately

Which was in response to the invasion of Gaza.

Which in turn was a response to the attack by Hamas in October.

Which in turn was a response to the treatment of Palestinians which you mention.

Which in turn was a response to attacks on Israeli civilian population.

Which in turn was a response….etc…etc…etc..

The idea.that one side has all the grievances and the other all the blame is, in my view, pretty misguided.

There are warmongers on both sides. Let’s hope they can all be reined in

Muslims have been killing Jews since the 7th century, more often than not civilians who were butchered in various barbaric ways. Most of the “massacres” you cherry picked were in response to Palestinian attacks and a lot of them were attacks against military targets your friends (sorry despicable cowardly bastards) in Hamas deliberately placed in civilian areas.
No doubt you don’t care about atrocities committed against Israel or Jewish civilians because in your sick warped mind/worldview Jews are forever evil oppressors who deserve any atrocity committed against them even the young babies roasted alive in ovens on 7th October.

I am afraid you have subjected yourself to too much Israeli propaganda. Young babies roasted alive in ovens – purest nonsense and disgusting propaganda. How do I know, or how do you know, what is fact and what is fiction? We have to be acutely aware of the power of the media and its possible use or misuse. The advantage of the internet is that you have a myriad of information sources available, but it is not difficult to find independent and reliable sources. The idea that Hamas fighters under attack from all sides should have the idea, “Oh, let’s roast a baby to incite support for our cause”, is in my opinion not in the slightest credible and many sources ‘prove’ such information came from fairly disgusting individuals (not Palestinians).

There are a number of misconceptions concerning drones.

Drones are comparatively easy to destroy using relatively cheap proximity fuzed ammunition of a variety of calibres down to 30mm and smaller. One 30mm proximity fuze round, all that is required using radar guidance, costs $1000.

Some of these equipments are already in service in Ukraine.

Sophisticated surface to air missiles (SAM) are generally employed against higher speed cruise and ballistic missiles.

The electronics and warheads of SAM systems have a limited shelf life, particularly in more extreme climates, so have to be replaced regularly in any case if not used; sunk costs.

There is no better training than employing these systems against multiple hostile tracks arriving in waves. The Israelis are, consequently, extremely well trained in the coordinated use of these systems.

Well Israel did attack the Iranian embassy in Syria, no?
Embassies are soil of the relevant country in international law.

As for the objective –
Quote
“Iran struck Nevatim air base with at least seven of its new hypersonic missiles.
Nevatim is home to the F-35 fighters that attacked the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
Not a single Iranian missile was intercepted.
Let that sink in. Israel is defenseless.”

Ballistic missiles are notoriously inaccurate.

The air base in question remained operational throughout.

The proof of the futility of Iran’s effort may be deduced from the response, which remains to be seen.

‘Iran must now await Israel’s retaliation, but unlike Israel, Iranian air defences are by comparison limited . . . . a response against Iranian soil looks like a certainty.’

VIP suites are, apparently, hurriedly being booked in the hotels of countries adjacent to Iran across the Gulf! The longer the beard, the bigger the suite!

Seven out of 120 ballistic missiles penetrated Israeli airspace.

The targeted air base in the Negev carried on operating throughout.

This is real bad for Biden.

He (and Obama) paid ‘Danegeld’ to Iran in return for hostages and, no doubt, thought he had also got various security assurances, helpful in the run up to the U.S. election.

In fact all he got, as usual, were expediencies…..

When will these dummies learn?

Of course the other matter of concern here is that the phased nature of the attack, the array of different systems used in sequenced combination appears to have drawn upon Russian experience, tactics employed in similar attacks against Ukraine.

That will, no doubt, result in the speedy release, now, of funding for both Israel and Ukraine by Congress.

It will also light a fire under the topic of increased defence spending within the NATO alliance.

The British Prime Minister and his Chancellor now look extremely foolish, irresponsible and…….even more, if it were possible, like toast……..
