Sir Patrick Vallance Joins Tony Blair Institute

Former Government Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance has joined the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI), the ex-Prime Minister’s organisation has announced. UnHerd‘s Rob Lownie has more.

Vallance has been appointed to the TBI’s “team of expert Strategic Counsellors”, alongside former Chief of the Defence Staff General Sir Nick Carter.

The Institute’s statement claims that Vallance “brings significant expertise to TBI’s work on the transformative role science and technology can play for governments and societies around the world”.  The physician served as the U.K. Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser from 2018 to 2023, presiding over the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He appeared in regular televised briefings alongside then Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty, and was thus considered a key architect of Britain’s lockdown policy.

Vallance will reportedly “provide strategic advice and guidance to TBI’s global policy work”, while Blair himself says that “the opportunities provided by advances in science and technology will be enhanced enormously by [his] contributions.”

Having initially considered a “herd immunity” approach to managing the virus, Vallance quickly became a proponent of further Government restrictions, and at the Covid inquiry last year suggested that the U.K. should have gone into lockdown earlier. He has cited the introduction of a vaccine as “chang[ing] the course of the pandemic”, though received criticism in late-2020 when it was revealed that he had a £600,000 shareholding in GlaxoSmithKline, a firm contracted to develop Covid vaccines for the Government. …

According to its website, the TBI provides guidance for over 30 governments, including Saudi Arabia under a £9 million deal between the two parties. Of its $81 million turnover in 2021, $79.4 million was from “government advisory work”.

We should drop the title. I could never call anyone ‘sir’ or ‘lord’, especially not those in presided over the covid fiasco.

I’d likely not do that well on the apprentice. The best I could manage would be Mr Sugar.

Possession of a gong has become a red flag for me: I now ask what service has been rendered to the Powerful to earn it.

A bit like the cash left on the table for the hooker.*

This must have been mentioned before but The Tony Blair Institute logo looks like it’s based on a swastika. Nothing wrong with that given the meaning of the symbol prior to being tarnished but this is Tony Blair we’re talking about.

It looks like it’s based on four-leaf clover which it probably is. It’s possible to hallucinate a swastika into that by selectively ignoring properties of the actual image.

I thought perhaps my view was zoomed-out too much so I zoomed-in on it and found it’s still hard to ignore the horizontal and vertical lines of the actual image.

Well, is this four boxes or two swastikas combined?

NB: I actually created it by doing the latter.

Not a clover then? I think you’re taking my initial comment a bit too seriously. I wasn’t suggesting some Obergruppenclover under Blairs command made it intentionally so.

This looks like a four-leaf clover to me. As with anything that’s mostly rectangular and divided into equal-sized quarters within, one can also ‘see’ a swastika in it if one happens to be in the eyes of the beholder.

I did a comparison, which should be attached to the comment, and I still think it’s closer to a swastika than a four leaf clover. I’m happy to behold a swastika – an ancient symbol found in cultures worldwide. It should be separated from the more recent negative associations which only discourage discussion of its origin.

You’ll get the exact same swastika picture if you take the four boxes and change the colour of the lines which don’t belong to a swastika from black to gray, just as you did with the TBI logo. Then, you can call a left wing paper about this exciting new discovery and get a title page story how a ‘Nazi’ dogwhistle has been thwarted in the last moment or so. But this will be based on an image created by you which is different from the original one.

We’re talking about the TBI logo and whether it looks like a swastika or a four leaf clover. I think we’ve established four leaf clover, which you’ve now given up on, is less convincing.

That you can superimpose a swastika onto the TBI logo doesn’t turn it into anything less resembling a four leaf clover. It’s just a testimony to your apparent desire to swastika your surroundings.

Is this the chap who showed Boris Johnson a power point presentation based on RCP 8.5 before the Glasgow CoP? Dodgy, rather?

Roy Everett

I hope not! RCP 8.5 was the most inaccurate and scarily overheated prediction of “global warming” ever. If Boris is easily scared by PowerPoint presentations of hockey sticks and blinded by the word “exponential” then it’s no wonder we got landed in the current mess of energy, health and economics!

But Vallance was certainly not already von Blair’s payroll while he was still advising the jellymop to implement the Corona policy favoured by Blair. No, no, no! While the very conversative governments from Cameron onwards have held Blair’s legacy absolutely sacred, it just cannot be that he’s still really running the show.

A thoroughly blunt examination of the perilous state this country is now in.

And now a total breakdown of the democratic process in Westminster.

The catastrophe is entirely due to the failure of this Parliament’s mismanagement and total inability to be fit for purpose. Together with that, the unimaginative, cowardly and downright careless voting of the British public, especially the ones who cannot be bothered to follow current affairs and politics, and who subsequently scream the loudest when things go wrong.

If people don’t open their eyes and ears, and pledge to put some decent politicians in Westminster at the next General Election, this country is done for. Period.”

Sir, lol, Patrick Vallance.
I will never forget that he was regularly on TV saying that everyone must be vaccinated because he’d discovered that even if one had the protection of catching covid (and not actually dying) your antibodies waned because of the completely new disease called covid.

Does he not know that antibodies (whatever they may be – I’ll not go into cellular housekeeping too much for him) wane after recovery from EVERY “viral infection”.

So, the man is an idiot, a liar or both.
Still, the utter bastard has made a mint – just like Blair.
I hope the Devil awaits them both – and soon…

A large part of COVID was always selling stuff one can find in entry-level popular textbooks as shocking new discoveries to an unfortunately unsuspecting public such as “cellular reproduction introduces mutations as a side effect” (“variants” in Wannakillchrismas Whitty lingo).

Places like the Tony Blair Institute are places where people who have no useful skills but jave too much ego and too much background to go for entry level jobs at McDonalds go to retire. It’s like a welfare scheme for globalist performing monkeys.

The TBI advises governments world-wide and Blair can certainly use a distinguished scientist who’s capable of telling the most ridiculous crap in order to justify the most murderous policy choices with an unwavering air of authority in public and entirely untroubled by something like conscience.

The prominent SAGEs are all guilty of collateral mass murder, ie, they didn’t really intend to kill people, they just accepted that this would be a necessariy side-effect of the policies they were advocating for.

As far as I can tell as outsider who didn’t ever really experience Unsaint Tony, the country seem still very much inside a straight-jacket designed and created by him.

In the second year of COVID, Blowhard Boris tried to stop the NHS from manufactring another winter emergency by prohibiting wholesale stop of so-called elective routine procedures such as treating cataracts before people go blind because of them. This should have worked because he was the prime minister at that time and the NHS is an arm of government. But NHS trust managers simply ignored him and stoppped them nevertheless. At least those who felt like doing so.

A similar example would be Rishi’s abortive attempt to stop Stonemaid preachers from invading schools to ‘convince’ vulnerable children that they must undergo body-destroying surgery to become what they should really been from the start. After much handwringing, a “You really shouldn’t be allowing this! Or at least tell the parents about it! Really! Please!” statement was issued by the government. Labour MPs immediately called for this “hate” to be ignored. And that’s what is going to happen with it. Who’s the real opposition and who’s the real government here?
