Church of England Vows to Become Even More Woke
A pro-BLM Bishop says the Church needs to “further embed racial justice” and should not be afraid of being called “woke”. This has been enthusiastically welcomed by the Church’s entire leadership in an orgy of racial self-flagellation. The Telegraph has more.
The Church of England has told all of its parishes to draw up “race action plans” after a pro-Black Lives Matter (BLM) bishop urged it to embrace being “woke”.
The General Synod, the Church’s legislative body, passed a motion on Sunday which said it should “encourage parishes and deaneries to develop local action plans to address issues of racial injustice”.
The Rt Rev Rose Hudson-Wilkin, the Bishop of Dover, said the Church needed to “further embed racial justice” and should not be afraid of being called “woke”.
“Those who are frightened by the authenticity of this movement want to scare us into thinking that being woke is a sin created by people on the Left,” she said.
Bishop Hudson-Wilkin led prayers at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May 2018 and has been an outspoken supporter of BLM.
She called on the Church to expand the number of bishops, cathedral deans and other senior churchmen who are from ethnic minorities.
The Very Rev Rogers Govender MBE, the Dean of Manchester, told Synod that the Church’s failure to do so before now was a “pernicious sin”.
No members stood up to make speeches opposing the motion as it passed by 364 votes in favour to zero against, with two abstentions.
The Archbishop of York, the Most Rev Stephen Cottrell, spoke animatedly as he said the Church “has not been good enough” on diversity and inclusion, that “racism and discrimination rupture our body” and asked, “May the Lord have mercy upon us”.
The Rt Rev Martin Gorick, the Bishop of Dudley, said every Anglican who becomes a parish representative in his Diocese of Worcester now has to undertake compulsory unconscious bias training.
Bishop Hudson-Wilkin said in response that every other diocese should follow suit.
The training was axed across government and the civil service in December 2020 because there was “no evidence” that it improved equality.
The Rev Rachel Webbley, team rector in Whitstable, Kent, told Synod she was a “recovering racist” and said she was shocked by “just how much white resistance there is to feeling discomfort about racial injustice”.
Daniel Matovu, a lay member of Synod, added that he had been forced to bear a cross throughout his life “because of the colour of my skin”.
“You white folks have no idea, particularly those of you who are white male, heterosexual and not disabled,” he said. “You’ve only been given small sticks to carry, with which to beat the rest of us.”
David Hermitt, another lay member, said the Church needed to become more anti-racist to reverse its falling membership figures because “young people” are “more radical than we are”.
The notion that the Church of England will attract more “young people” to the pews by forcing every parish to draw up “race action plans” is so wrong-headed it’s almost touching.

It seems to me that the Church would do better to provide a constant and eternal message, and not dwell on current affairs. After all, we have plenty of secular woke agitation, so it’s not like the CoE are adding to the ‘conversation’ (this is what conservatives call being shouted at by leftists).
I do go to church (baptist) sometimes, and whilst it isn’t too bad in terms of wokery, I’d prefer to find myself better educated about the bible when I leave than when I arrive. It’s just too lightweight.
Some good orthodox Catholic churches do preach and teach the Bible and real history. Not all, but a good many. The CC is not as far down the road to ruin as the Anglicans or Protestants but with Pope Globalist in charge, they are desperately trying to catch up.

They are a bit late to the party, which has already run out of steam, someone puked in the punch bowl, and a fight has broken out on the driveway over the minicabs. Somebody tell the CoE to turn off the lights, it’s done.
Then they agonise over why their pews are empty. A three year old could work it out.

Many of whom have struggled though the class system without a pot to piss in, but did so without bitching and without pointing a finger at everybody else. I’m sick to my back teeth of having my decency and tolerance turned upside down and shoved down my throat with a heavy dollop of mustard. Enough.
It is more like A Church in England now.
A difficult time for the CoE. They see themselves as the moral and spiritual leaders of the nation, and traditionally sympathise with the underprivileged, so it’s natural that they would align with BLM etc.
But this woke method of putting ‘people of colour’ in important positions just because of the colour of their skin, rather than because of the content of their characters, is exactly the opposite of what Doctor King envisioned. It’s incredibly divisive and it’s had disastrous consequences for any organisation which has adopted it, particularly CoE, which has badly haemorrhaged its congregation. It’s losing it’s core audience in the over 50s, and the young don’t give two stuffs about it anyway.
So what next? Either it ignores the concerns of its congregation, continues along this path, and face almost total ruin. Or perhaps it could go the other way: appeal to disillusioned young men and women, particularly new mothers and fathers, who are very concerned about the current state of the nation. But it would take strong leadership for this change to occur.
The Church of England is a large land holder and much its land is valuable inner city properties with clunky historical buildings on it. Welby only needs to get rid of these annoying Christians, then, he can sell all of this and all these unused old buildings can be torn down and replaced with tower blocks of buy-to-let flats. That’s going to become an absolute killer sale.

Having observed the trajectory that the CofE has been on for years, this is no surprise at all. To not be aware that BLM is a left political construct is abject ignorance.

What exactly is “equality” and why is it desirable? Why does it need to be “improved”. Some forms of “equality” seem to me to be desirable and arguably a moral imperative, but the word, like so many, seems to mean whatever people want it to mean.
So – the CofE reckons beating racism can be done by being……racist? Got it.
Just another 10 years, and the CoE will celebrate its 500 year anniversary. Do you think it can hold out for another 10 years while continuing along this path? I’m not sure.
Incredible how England’s historic institutions have started to crumble so rapidly around us. The Victorians would be disgusted with us. They handed over to us the strongest nation on earth, perhaps the strongest the earth had ever seen, a world leader in science, technology, manufacturing, commerce, literature, art and music. Now we are even too pathetic to stop random impoverished unarmed Africans from invading our shores.
Who needs Christians when there is a pile of money to be made selling off unused churches and vicarages, as has already happened at least once in my neck of the woods.
As the Bishop of Dover helpfully explains, ‘woke’ is a term used by people of colour to describe their situation. As such, it cannot therefore by taken up and used by others. To do so would be cultural appropriation.
Does this lady dispute that, as a Christian, she had a white Saviour?
According to the 19th century painter Millais, Jesus of Nazareth had red hair. A minority in itself. Was Jesus just the Saviour of the red-haired? To satisfy the bishops, someone evidently has to replace the beauty of this pre-Raphaelite realism with a woke version, just to satisfy the factionalism that has nothing to do with Christianity.

Yes. This is the intent. The social justice ideology is Marxist so sabotaging the Christian foundations of a nation, even if it is a secular nation is a victory in their books. They might want to look a little more closely at the actual reason for the “falling membership figures”, its almost certainly not because they are not Woke enough, nor diverse or inclusive enough. Its much more likely due to them forgetting why they even exist as an organisation. I’m not a practicing Christian, but I believe the CofE is open to anyone who wishes to belong.
They sound like real men and women of God don’t they? really espousing and living the teachings of Christ.

They’re certainly no Christians. Christians teaching is not that there’s a hierachy of sinners among mankind with white, able-bodied and heterosexual men being the absolute worst and (presumably) lesbian disabled women of colour the absolute best children of God. It’s also not particularly Christian to elevate men to judges of the inherent sinfulness of other men and even declare that some sin, like white able-bodied male hetersexuality, are simply beyond redemption. God is supposed to be the judge the sinfulness of man and sinners are supposed to be forgiven if they just honestly strive for what they should really be.
People like David Matovu are not supposed to sort their fellow humans into categories of greater or lesser worth or no worth at all, based on innate properties chosen for them by God(!).
The Archpillock of Canterbury’s real aim is to utterly destroy the Protestant Church of England, in collusion with the Catholics & Jesuits who have been trying to overturn the Protestant Reformation for 500 years, and seize all Church of England property for themselves. That is the real aim, like their repeated attempts to put non-Protestants illegally in the post of Monarch’s Prime Minister, in violation of the law of the land.
While the COE churches are almost empty of indigenous Brits, they are busy enrolling pretend Christians from the channel migrants who will never be see in church after they get their certificate
The CofE is killing itself in so many ways. The one affecting me at the moment is “protection of children and certain adults” via DBS checks, “training” etc. This is to volunteer to do an entirely technical job as a Church member! In fact I have done all this before when I worked for a bording girls school, but that makes no difference, it all must be repeated with a lot of bureaucracy, identity checks, etc. True the Church has a bad history of abuse, but so has general society. It is now a case of “we must be seen to be doing something”, all from on high, the previous guilty group! They will be requiring this to even attend next, with the obvious result that congregations will disappear.
