Nick Dixon and Toby Young Talk About Rishi Sunak Losing Two By-Elections, Sadiq Khan’s Woke Makeover of the London Overground and Putin’s Murder of Alexei Navalny
Welcome to the Weekly Sceptic episode 76.
This week:
- Rishi Sunak reels from two by-election losses, prompting speculation about whether another leader would do better
- Sadiq Khan politicises London’s Overground network, giving woke names to four of the six lines in the network
- Alexei Navalny is murdered by Putin, rendering Putin’s attempt to come across as a seasoned elder statesman in his interview with Tucker Carlson rather pointless
- Plus everyone’s favourite section, Peak Woke
- Premium content in this week’s episode includes Trump’s bizarre decision to start selling trainers, the row between a father and daughter on X, and the Based Department, in which Toby and Nick manage to find a few nuggets of soundness in what remains of Great Britain

“Alexei Navalny is murdered by Putin,”
And you know this, how?
Great sceptical outlook.
Motive and opportunity.
Navalny was no threat to Putin in the coming election. His death has put a spotlight on Putin that will only benefit Putin’s detracters. Cui bono if not the USA/West/Ukraine.
There’s a long list of assassinees who were no electoral threat to Putin, yet still judged worth killing. Who do you think poisoned Navalny before? Who put him in jail?
Look, I’m no fan of the West’s meddling in Ukraine and I share Putin’s distaste for Western decadence, but let’s not kid ourselves about what he is. Navalny’s death is a warning to other putative dissidents and an ‘up yours’ to the West.
The good thing about the West used to be the requirement for evidence, Where is yours?
Just because Western media and people on social media say it doesn’t make it fact. I recently heard an allegation that the Novichok poisonings were perpetrated by British Intelligence agents to discredit Russia. I have seen no actual evidence of either and they seem equally plausible to me.
America has the stock of Novichok.
As does Porton Down, according to Gilbert Doctorow talking on the Redacted channel. He reckons the British did Navalny in; just as they did the Skripals, and all to discredit Putin in the lead up to the Russian elections.
(Whereas Russia stopped using Novichok in the 1980s/90s. I can’t believe there is none of the stuff in the entire territory)
My objection to the theory of the British going rogue i.e no longer being a US lapdog and being masters at proxy wars and false flag ops, is that currently our institutions couldn’t run a whelk stall, never mind take out a significant political prisoner without rousing suspicion.
Navalny’s mother wasn’t too complimentary about Mrs Navalny either, accusing her of not visiting her husband for 2 years and taking up with other men. Her very prompt appearance at the Munich Conference so soon after becoming a widow was very telling too.
What motive – Navalny was in prison for 19 years! I do wish people like you would at least do some research before repeating media lies.
Thanks you saved me responding.
Only a moron believes Putin killed Navalny.
According to Wikileaks…….
Alexei Navalny’s political activities were funded by the US government through the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) as part of an effort to repeat US-backed 2014 Ukraine regime change inside Russia itself;
The Western media had previously (and reluctantly) revealed Navalny as far-right, racist, and xenophobic despite efforts to pass him off as a progressive pro-democracy activist;
US government-funded polling agencies consistently found Alexei Navalny extremely unpopular in Russia with single digit approval ratings;
After an alleged 2020 “Novichok” poisoning, Navalny’s popularity “surged” to 20% (versus President Putin’s 80%+ approval rating according to US government-funded polling) as the Western media accused Moscow of being behind the incident;
The US is now exploiting the death of Navalny to advance its anti-Russia policy while the Western media collective omits all relevant context regarding Navalny’s background and US funding;
In particukar he was reported to be Islamophobic, which would make him an unlikely poster boy for a large part of the West.
Yes I have a stock reply to Navalny supporters in the West….
As the Western media attempts to convince the public that Russia is to blame for the death of “political activist” Alexei Navalny in prison, it should be remembered that this same Western media previously (albeit reluctantly) admitted Navalny was a racist, xenophobic neo-Nazi agitator.
A February 2021 BBC article (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56181084) reported even Amnesty International was forced to strip Navalny’s “prisoner of conscience” status for the violence and hate he unremorsefully promoted.
That same month, US government-funded Radio Free Europe likewise was forced (https://www.rferl.org/…/navalny-failure…/31122014.html) to concede Navalny’s extremist background.
Here is a video of Scott Ritter talking about Navalny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ruv49PYBeds. And here is the first part of Scott’s essay on who Navalny actually was: https://www.scottritterextra.com/.
You asked for suggestions: The Enoch Powell Line.
The Rivers of Blood Line.
As a newish member of Reform my motive isn’t to enter an electoral pact with the Conservative Party a la Toby’s fantasy; it’s to kill the Conservative Party.
What about Gonzalo Lira, a Chilean/American blogger, who died in a Ukrainian jail recently. Not a mention from our MSM.
Go back on the Coke, Nick. Toby always needs kicking when he parrots the Midwit line on Trump and you merely tickled him behind the ears.
Someone please remind Toby that the word ‘nuclear’ is not pronounced ‘nucUlar’ (unless in honour of George W. Bush).
