Grenada has called on wealthy British families with historic links to slavery to follow the example of Laura Trevelyan, the former BBC journalist, and pay reparations.

I think it makes sense only if together with the compensation the compensated agree also to be return to their ancestral homes in Africa.

I mean, if they want to be compensated it’s because being in Grenada sucks and they prefer to be back in Africa.

If they don’t want to go back, then maybe rather than asking for compensation they should be giving thanks for being in a better place.

Maybe seek reparations from descendants of Africans that caught and traded their ancestors?

We could all seek reparations from the Rothschild family for their historic influence and wealth generated as a result.

Contemporary slavery should not be discussed.

Do you have evidence that the famikly you accuse was particularly, largely or at all involved in the slave trade? All the family members? Or is your attack a form of anti-semitism?

Did people only get rich from slavery? It was an example of a family with wealth accrued in the distant past through questionable means. It may not have been questionable at the time to many but then neither was slavery.

I don’t see how this can be thought of as anti-semitic. Is it because it’s not an approved narrative?

So I guess you’re one of “those” who think criticism of the richest family on planet earth are antisemites?

NHS ‘putting patients at risk’ by letting 335 staff work abroad

With 1.2m staff, many of whom never come into contact with a patient, I think 335 are probably not having a great effect on the overall performance

So dismissing them for not turning up for work won’t matter, will it.

Ever since lockdown, our local hospital trust has operated a policy of encouraging all staff to work from home “if they can”.

The most senior clinical and managerial staff think it’s great to work from home and perform their duties via video links, regardless of its impact on patient care and the morale of the more junior staff who are still expected to attend the hospital in person.

One aspect of this that isn’t often mentioned is that the Junior Hospital Doctors are big losers in this WFH culture, because they are the ones who have to soldier-on when their bosses are sitting at home in their pyjamas. Is it any suprise just how militant they’ve become recently?

Mind you, hospital doctors all seem to wear pyjamas at work, too. 🙂

More seriously, your point is correct.

Alas no. They can’t recommend against being an HMRC ‘customer’ and spending your money on something more worthwhile.

Best buy? Don’t buy?

It infuriates me every time I see the term ‘customer’ on tax correspondence.

Wealthy British families ‘should pay’ reparations for proceeds of slavery“- insists Laura Trevelyan, member of the Council of Foreign Relations, who stepped down from the BBC to become a full-time advocate for “Reparations for Slavery”.

In order to encourage others to pay “reparations”, she decided to pay Grenada £100,000 in “reparations” to atone for her ancestors making the equivalent of £3,476,564 from their plantations in Grenada. She also insists that King Charles apologise on behalf of the United Kingdom.

Erm. What about the other £3,376,564? Cheapskate. If I were Grenada I’d complain.
