Boxer Glenn McCrory cleared of sexually assaulting three waitresses

A story that proves that, despite being highly jaded by the modern world, I still have the capacity to utter “WTF.?” now and again…

Dearie me, what a world we live in. In the area ‘up north’ I’m familiar with, frequent terms of endearment or salutation used are ‘cock’ and ‘love’ – ‘How are you, cock?’and ‘thank you, love’ and such like terms. I dread to think of the brouhaha if the word ‘cock’ had been used towards the waitresses. Most probably the gender brigade would have taken offence. Sigh.

…that’s me done then..I always call people love, It’s not even something I think about…?? It’s just part of the way people talk in the North.….!
…and touching someone’s elbow and winking at them?

How on earth did this ever get to court?..the public ought to be able to get their money back for the time wasted..especially as it would appear a video was available from the start showing it was rubbish…

Unbelievable…..

An appalling example of the utter uselessness of in the first place, the Chief of Police and secondly the consistently failed CPS.

As I know from having lived in the North East for a few years the use of the word ‘pet’ ( Mogs?) is endemic in just the same way we in Lancashire and Yorkshire use ‘love’ and the Potteries ‘duck.’ To be bloody simple it’s how we speak. There are no other connotations. It is polite vernacular.

Touching an elbow? If I had a pound for the number of times I have seen this I could retire. Actually the touch is not intended to be completed although obviously it sometimes is, again nothing other than what it is, a request for assistance.

I really feel sorry for Glenn McCrory. How on earth did he deserve this?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/09/29/national-parking-app-drivers-rishi-sunak/

Sneaky, having one parking app will make it easier to track motorists, won’t it?

The article also states that despite weeks of speculation, Sunak is not expected to announce an Inheritance Tax cut. I never thought he would. Why would any government cull a goose that lays plentiful golden eggs and produces easy money for them to fritter away on their cronies and reckless policies?

One of the many blind spots that people seem to have is thinking that apps are likely to improve their lives when the exact opposite is the case.

What apps achieve is making it so that things you could do just fine before without the help of an app you can now only do with an app.

People are so so easily mesmerised and duped.

Yes..as Matt Le Tissier points out…(..and I’m sure there’s many more..)

In 2019 Jo Brand joked about throwing acid over
Nigel Farage on the BBC –
No further action.
In 2020 Sophie Dukes joked about killing white people on Frankie Boyle’s New World Order –
No further action.
In 2020 Miriam Margolyes said she wanted Boris Johnson to die on live TV while he was seriously ill with COVID –
No further action.

Did the same people calling for GB News to be shut down call for the BBC and Channel 4 to be shut down?

I did the same in a ‘credit card only’ toilet..funnily enough in Looe in Cornwall…..I held on ‘till I found another toilet..of course that could have gone worse…but luckily, it didn’t……LOL!

More on the whole sorry GBN saga here; ”David Davis, a former government minister and former leadership candidate for the Conservative Party, described calls to cancel the channel as “alarming” and said that whilst “Fox’s comments were crass and rude, indeed disgusting… TV channels should not be shut down because one of the people on their channel says something offensive on live broadcast.” He added that no other broadcasters within the U.K. mainstream media faced such calls after indiscretions, and insisted that Britain “is supposed to be a democracy, not an authoritarian state.” This was followed by Toby Young, the general secretary of the Free Speech Union, who said he hoped Fox won’t be fired from the channel. “I know him and like him and admire his courage. He said something stupid, but he’s apologized. No one should lose their livelihood for a few ill-chosen words,” Young posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. Many supporters of the presenters in question are now questioning whether the GB News leadership is bringing the channel’s own demise after what they consider to be its weak management throwing its under-pressure staff under the bus. The channel’s CEO, Angelos Frangopoulos, told BBC Radio 4’s Today program… Read more »

Swedish PM getting tough on gang members. This is what the Israeli PM was saying, about deporting people involved in riots, but let’s see if they follow through with their promises. Certainly Sweden has its work cut out. ”The Swedish Prime Minister announced new tough measures to deal with the ongoing gang crisis in the country. After a brutally violent month in Sweden with shootings and bombings becoming almost a daily occurrence, Sweden has decided to crack down hard on the gangs responsible for the attacks. This isn’t a new thing. Sweden has had problems with gangs for many years now. We have 61 no-go zones, some of which the police describe as “lawless areas”. Things have become so bad that the police warned that the situation hasn’t been this dangerous since 1945. Other police have warned that we risk a “systemic societal collapse” if things are allowed to continue. So to outline some of the things Sweden will do now to crack down on the gangs: Looking at deploying the military to assist the police in fighting the gangs. Deporting foreigners involved in criminal gangs, even if they haven’t been convicted of any crimes yet. Build new prisons for… Read more »

“National parking app on the way”. Ah yes, a national app, following the government’s exemplary record on this. Sold as a way to “back the motorist”. Just like parking enforcement is often referred to by councils as “parking services“, and those who have money confiscated from them are called customers. I haven’t read the article by the way, I’m not going to fund the Telegraph. Granted, some of the present methods of paying for parking are awful: download an app, and get out your smartphone AND debit card on a crowded street, surrounded by thieves on mopeds. But this is yet another thing intended to spy on us, sold as a “convenience”, like smart meters. I intend to pay for my parking with clunky coins for as long as I possibly can. As for a national app, what could go wrong? Govt tracking of where your car is. No need for expensive paid meter maids, or even cameras to enforce parking: this would work hand in hand with the in-car tracking devices which are certain to come with this convenient app, which the govt conveniently failed to mention. A controlled parking zone could be set up anywhere, on central government’s… Read more »

Perhaps some sort of national token could be introduced which could be used in various combinations to pay the fees? To show that they’re genuine and valid nationwide it could have some national symbol on it – perhaps the monarch’s head? Just a wild, crazy idea.

I’ve never really had any problems paying for parking with coins anywhere – except recently one evening when I found the machines in our local multi-storey to have temporarily gone ‘card only’ so I parked elsewhere. It was slightly irritating.

Flu jab twice as likely to have severe reaction for women than men” – A new study has revealed that women are twice as likely to suffer a “severe” reaction to the flu jab as men, according to the Telegraph.

Analysis of 34,000 adults who received the flu vaccination between 2010 and 2018 found that 3 per cent of women had a severe reaction, compared to just 1.5 per cent of men.

Researchers from the University of Montreal, Canada, classified severe reactions as symptoms such as high fevers over 39 degrees, or significant swelling, pain or rashes known as erythema, that led to people being unable to carry out daily tasks.

It said that 38.6 per cent of the 20,295 women analysed had suffered side effects like headaches, vomiting, fevers and muscle aches after their vaccination, known as “systemic reactions”, compared with just 28.6 per cent of the 13,860 men – around 29 per cent fewer on the whole.

So 3% of women and 1.5% of men who take the ‘flu jab get ‘severe’ symptoms and 38.6% of women and 28.6% of men get ‘flu-like symptoms.

Sounds like a brilliant vaccine (my last ‘flu shot was in 2017; I’ve refused since).

I’ve never had a flu jab. I’m not saying nobody should have a flu jab, I have no idea about anyone else or how either flu or the flu jab might affect them, I only know that I have a robust natural immune system which knows how to deal with flu, all it requires is rest and very little to eat, maybe just some easily digested fruit until I feel better. It’s as simple as that, for me. Other people may have complicated health conditions, which I know nothing about, which might cause them to consider getting the flu jab.

For pain relief during flu, I don’t take medication, I thole the pain, which can be relieved by understanding that it’s not going to continuously get worse, it will reach a peak, and then ease, come and go, until it goes completely. Also I find listening to harmonious music actually helps to relieve pain.

It’s impossible to keep out of this (even more difficult when I know that’s what us men are supposed to do – be quiet), but the Laurence Fox thing, WTF? Let me get this right: a bloke insulting a woman by saying that they wouldn’t shag them is the headlines, while the woman who trivialises men killing themselves is given a completely free pass? Not a dickie bird about her evil. And this is normal? If you can’t see it now, you never will – that includes our resident misandrist Mucky, or whatever her name is. Although I notice she’s changed sides after it became fashionable in the alternative think-space. Telling.

Gosh, that’s a bit harsh. I confess I didn’t watch the show but what I’ve picked up from various transcripts was Geoff Norcott’s balanced and insightful comments – especially his (entirely true) observation that women say they want men to talk about their problems more but when they do they get shut down – being shut down by Evans trying to make a wider point about mental health in general (always bring in the kids, it’s a points winner). By doing so she fed directly into his point. But now, what Norcott was saying has been overtaken not so much by Evan’s typically vacuous – and pretty obvious – ‘whataboutery’ arguments but Foxgate. Most DSers here are fully cognisant of the fact that the overblown furore over Fox is much wider than his rather crude comments to a nobody journo and feeds directly into totalitarian demands for ever greater censorship of independent voices, alongside all the other ‘white man bad’ racist/sexist cr*p going on.

Well, that’s a big part of the problem – whatever men do it’s wrong (perfect trigger for a flood of laughing emojis from Mucky). Men are too masculine? They need to be more like women. Men are not masculine enough? They need to be more like men. All I’ve asked for, all I’ve ever asked for, is for balance. I believe that men and women are different and that that difference should be respected. Should men ‘talk’ more? F*ck no, that’s a woman’s thing. I’m perfectly happy largely keeping my thoughts to myself and just talking complete crap with my mates. If I need to ‘talk’ then I have good friends that I can do that with, but that need sits at a different frequency to women’s. The campaign of hatred against men is starting to backfire. You can’t keep kicking a dog and not expect it to bite. The massive divide between the sexes is what I’ve tried to warn about, but few want to listen. And definitely not women. Why not women? Because they’re comfortable. For me it’s always been a test of character; will you wake others by rocking the boat in calm waters if you feel… Read more »

Maybe DS is a forum where we could be more vocally pro-men. There are clearly issues that affect men in particular. I’m not a man so it always feels a bit weird and sycophantic being vocally pro-men. But I’m up for being more vocal. I don’t know if there is a massive divide between the sexes. There is between feminism and men’s rights. I think we rub along okay in real life, but it no doubt varies wildly according to personal experience.

Free Lemming

Reply to  prod_squadron

I’m not really ‘pro-men’, I’m just appalled by the anti-men rhetoric that’s become so commonplace it’s not even questioned. I have a simple belief that men and women are different but equal. I believe that the best way society functions is if we work together and respect our differences – respect the fact that we both have problems we face that can’t easily be explained to the ‘other side’ and may never be fixed. And just because these differences could be ‘fixed’ it doesn’t mean that they definitely should be – that goal moves us closer to being a monolithic blob (exactly what our overlords want). We should expect equality of opportunity, but not, necessarily, equality of outcome. It’s always seemed like a perfectly reasonable take on things to me, but seems to absolutely infuriate most feminists. As an example, the only way I don’t get downvotes for this post is pointing out I’ll get downvotes for this post. You can ponder why that might be the case.

I listened to the Geoff Norcott segment just now. He came across as very reasonable. Frances O’ Grady came off even worse than Ava Evans in my view. I think what happened was that he framed the debate (very politely) by saying that he is surprised by feminists’ reactions to the simple fact that men have particular issues worthy of coverage and debate. My impression is that this put them on the defensive and they weren’t big enough to talk about the issue reasonably.

Oh, how very convenient Fishy.

Now what’s really going on?

Well I suppose if government decides to introduce additional pay per mile charging – no, they wouldn’t do that – then the same app could be used. If you rack up a motoring / parking fine the same app could be used.

Very handy for government when CBDC’s come in because they will be able to simply dip in to collect any charges.
