Activists Put Stickers on ‘Spy Cameras’ So Motorists Aren’t Caught Out by Sadiq Khan’s New Rules as Londoners Resist Expansion
Activists in London are using stickers and posters on cameras and vehicles to protest Mayor Sadiq Khan’s expansion of the ultra-low emission zone. The Mail has more.
The black cameras have been covered with stickers bearing the words “FCUK Khan” in protest against the London Mayor’s draconian expansion of the capital’s ultra-low emission zone.
In addition, posters put up on poles point up at the technology with the words ‘Spy camera’.
Other posters have been left on cars warning drivers of the charges being imposed on non-compliant vehicles.
It comes as plans to potentially block the ultra-low emission zone expansion coming into force across the whole of London next week have been shelved.
The expansion is due to come into place next week, with drivers of the most polluting vehicles billed £12.50 a day for coming within a new Ulez boundary around London.
Cabinet ministers are said to have been exploring using a little-known legal power allowing them to overrule Mr. Khan’s plans where they are inconsistent with national policies.
But Government lawyers have apparently said the challenge would fail in the courts, the Telegraph reported.
It means the controversial rollout of the Ulez expansion across the whole of London will go ahead as planned next Tuesday.
The little-known legal clause in the 1999 Greater London Authority Act states that a transport secretary can effectively block a decision by the London Mayor if it is “inconsistent with national properties relating to transport” and if this would be “detrimental” to anywhere outside Greater London.
But given the U.K.’s own policies on improving air pollution and cutting carbon emissions, lawyers have warned the Government that the move would most likely be quashed in court if challenged.
A Downing Street source said: “We have and continue to look at options, but they are limited. The people who could stop this tomorrow are the Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan and Sir Keir Starmer.” …
Meanwhile, a YouGov poll of 1,000 Londoners shows Mr. Khan has a popularity rating of minus 12 across the city, with 52% of respondents viewing him unfavourably, compared with 40% favourably.
Yet in outer boroughs, his net rating plunged to minus 24.
Worth reading in full.
Stop Press: The expansion of London’s ultra-low emission zone cannot be overruled by No10, the Telegraph has learned, as Government lawyers have warned that any attempt to block it would likely be rejected by the courts.

Little point in voting Conservative if key decisions are made by The Opposition. The Tories are beyond saving..
So are the sovereign people of London!
The people who can stop all this are …
THE PEOPLE!
DON’T PAY THE FINES! SIMPLES! THEY CAN’T TAKE EVERYONE TO COURT!
From a politicking standpoint the government should have gone to court anyway. To show they are on the people’s side on this,
Mass none payment! F Khan, they can’t lock you all up!
I agree and you bring up a good point. I think this is yet another example of testing the waters to see the compliance levels of the British public. I hope the Bladerunners are having a recruitment drive.
Abolish the whole London mayoralty. Elected mayors and their authoritarian lackeys are an foreign, imported concept with no basis in historic British legal history. London has its own regional councils who can run their own areas as (in)competently as voters allow. Ken Livingstone caused havoc in the 1980s with the GLC, so Baroness Thatcher abolished it. London was no worse off. Abolishing Khan and his loonies can’t do any harm either.
“It’s just too hard” is not an available excuse for a sovereign parliament.
Er… Parliament is not sovereign, the People are. Ref: 1215 Magna Carta – the written English, now British, Constitution, still in force wherein the King ceded sovereignty to the People, binding his heirs & successors in perpetuity.
All the legislative crap since has buried it and people are not taught about it. But it’s still there.
Magna Carta is not an Act, so cannot be repealed or amended.
I concur with Dr Hinton, like always;
”ULEZ what is it really about?
Health? Not at all, there is no evidence
Raising money? I no longer believe this. There will not be enough £12.50s collected to even break even running the cameras
REAL REASON is to get the cameras in for surveillance. Are these cameras only for ANPR car recognition or can they also do facial recognition? The cameras have 2 lenses so could take a 3D image necessary for facial recognition.
Will @MayorofLondon
confirm these cameras can & will never be used for facial recognition?
Truly Orwellian”

Of course not. But initially what they are there for is to implement Road Pricing for every driver who enters London.
We’re in a boiling frog situation:
Central London Congestion Charge
Central London ULEZ
Expanded London ULEZ
Greater London ULEZ
Road pricing
Drivers who aren’t protesting the expansion of ULEZ to Greater London because their car is compliant haven’t read, or don’t understand, Pastor Niemoller’s poem.
ULEZ, 20mph zones, banning ICE cars: part of Net Zero, kill the car campaign to reduce mobility thus reduce freedom, and to make 15 minute ghettos acceptable by default. These ghettos are localised lockdowns.
The bottom line here is we have a government that won’t govern.
Sunak, as always, bleats ‘well I wanted to stop it but they wouldn’t let me’.
This, when the ‘they’ are doing exactly what he wants on killing personal transport, stealing your money, opening our borders, killing off our energy independence etc.
“Cabinet ministers are said to have been exploring using a little-known legal power allowing them to overrule Mr. Khan’s plans where they are inconsistent with national policies.”
How about we the people exercising our inalienable rights to overrule any tyrannical measures from any quarter by those who are supposed to be serving us?
I call Baloney!! They are simply liars…..
We have had Rishi this week saying that there is nothing the Government can do about the continuing illegal invasion of the UK..before the next election….! …although he didn’t say what they could do after the election!…LOL….liars!
..and I don’t believe for a moment the liars want to stop this either….
Sadiq Khan’s London is signed up to the C40 cities….yet another un-elected quango..
All of which is funded around some of the usual suspects…including the British and German Governments..USAID … and Sir Christopher Hohn’s Children’s Investment Fund Management (TCI Fund Management), which in 2019, topped the list of the most profitable hedge funds in the world…and who is one of the main promoters of ESG’s…
All under the UN umbrella…..
They don’t want to stop it..they pay for it…they are LIARS!
Wouldn’t a sticker over the camera lens itself be a little more effective? Asking for a friend.
Could you ask your friend to stump up a fiver so that he could ask the question himself?

How wonderfully convenient that government lawyers have ‘warned’ Fishy that any attempt to stop Khant would fail in the courts. I bet it would. It’s the law you see, legally binding and all that.
The message from Fishy:
Sorry everybody, I tried to stop him but the Judges say I can’t. I tried, honest I did.
So, apparently the national government of this country and its people is subject to the whims of a dictator and that’s the end of it.
Oh do firk orf.
The law of the land got amended pretty sharpish when Johnson and the Quad decided to close down the economy and remove our Civil Rights over a bad cold.
Sunak could change the London Authority Act in a matter of hours with a Statutory Instrument. He doesn’t want to.
I said that yesterday, I am expecting action today. But they are all on holiday WFH. It is time to stop paying any tax.
Exactly.
The Government could stop ULEZ if it wanted to by creating a Statutory Instrument to amend the Greater London Authority Act. It could be done in a matter of hours.
It doesn’t want to.
The Blade Runners and other friends are doing a noble job, and the will to resist this unfairness is strong. People on the fringes of London are being hit hard, and have no right of reply if they are not in a London borough. The national government doesn’t see the need to defend them. Appalling. We need to point out that Khan is said to have organised a fleet of camera vans which will roam the streets in order to cover for lost cameras, so the resistance is doomed, unless national government steps in (which it will not).
It is actually simple. The Government could stop giving him our money. If the money stopped TfL would actually go bankrupt, (in reality it already is) and the whole lot would be without jobs. I wonder how long it would before the scheme disapeared, and TfL got new management? Probably about 5 minutes! I object in the strongest terms to my money being given to TfL to charge me for driving when I already pay the taxes for road use. I don’t even live anywhere London! I seem to have to pay the Government to drive in Bristol though, the place is dying on it’s feet.
Yet imprisoning an entire population, coercing many to submit to an experimental, dangerous medical procedure without their informed consent was not blocked by the Courts.
Nice to be in a democracy where we have the rule of law.
Anyway. Put the stickers over the camera lens.
In France one of the favourite methods of dealing with speed cameras, was to wrap them in black bin-liners then set fire to them. The plastic melted and gummed up the lens and radar.
Catapult + (real) paint ball = job(s) done……just saying
