More Than 300 Ulez Cameras Damaged or Stolen in Four Months

Over 300 cameras monitoring London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone were vandalised or stolen between April and August. The BBC has the story.

Over four months, the Metropolitan Police (Met) received 339 reports of camera cables being damaged, or cameras being stolen or obscured.

The actual number of cameras affected is likely to be even higher as one report can represent multiple cameras.

Unofficial data mapping the location of disabled cameras suggests that almost 500 cameras could have been affected.

It also suggests that the vast majority have been in outer London where the zone is being expanded.

Some 1,900 cameras have been installed in outer London so far.

Despite so much damage being caused, one man has so far been charged by police. …

Commander Owain Richards said the Met had “a team of officers investigating and identifying those responsible” and was working with Transport for London (TfL) to “identify new ways to prevent further cameras from being damaged or stolen”.

The force has not revealed the locations of any of the disabled cameras but a group of people calling themselves Julie’s Ulez map, who are opposed to the Ulez expansion, worked to track the locations and damage caused to cameras.

The map shows there are 1,619 cameras outside the North and South circular roads, with 461 of those reported as vandalised or stolen – equating to 28% of TfL’s network cameras.

Kingsley Hamilton, who runs one of most popular anti-Ulez social media groups, told the BBC he could see why “if someone is in a desperate situation and has no way out” they may turn to vandalism.

“I don’t condone it but I won’t explicitly say you can’t do that. It would be wrong for me to say you’re a bad person for doing that (vandalising cameras),” he added.

Black pins relate to stolen cameras and blue pins show damaged cameras

TfL is planning to install a total of 2,750 cameras before the expansion comes into force at the end of August.

Sadiq Khant. My opinion of him rhymes.

Oppose this politically-motivated moron purely out of principle. Unpick and destroy “thems/theys/narcissist” (did I do pc right?) lack of actual arguments.

We mustn’t be afraid of weakness masquerading as strength. They’re WEAK….

…attack their weaknesses

They are heroes in my eyes.
I hope they continue and wreck this anti democratic, regressive, illogical as well as fake science based crap.

This will be the infrastructure for 15 minute cities and subdivisions to control Londoners.

Fight these things.

And have they allowed for that in the budget? Maybe they will jack up the fees to claw it back, or it could result in council rate increases for extra police expenditure.

Sad thing is no one who is anyone with clout wants to know. Wrong and distressing.

Once the fines come into effect I wonder if they’ll actually be more pollution due to increased congestion as drivers use side streets to try and pick their way round the cameras.

Well, I used to be annoyed because my small vans cost me £285 road tax, yet the same vehicle in MPV form, same engine, same emissions is £30. Now, as an MPV, I could drive it through the CAZ without charge, but I have to pay a fee as a van. I’ve determined not to do this. I now drive double the distance to reach my sons flat on the other side of town. Its a nonsense, dreamed up by people who are hard of thinking. And no I don’t give a toss for the tens of thousands who die of ‘toxic air’, because they don’t exist. More junk science, exaggerated to the max by useless people trying to be helpful.

And people reported these ‘acts of vandalism’?
I’d have offered those removing them a cuppa!

We disapprove of idiots gluing themselves to the road so maybe we should not approve of damage to ULEZ camera’s. ———But then again it is all down to personal taste what?

Both are acting against the citizens going about their lawful business, for reasons of political ideology. They are one and the same.

I disagree, one lot is acting to enforce a view whist the other is acting to oppose a view. People gluing themselves to the road are the extreme of government policy to reduce carbon and a form of persecution towards those who need these carbons, whilst the other are the actions of those who have had all their rights ignored or removed. Both parties will have those who would use these groups for their own ends, and will be seen as right, wrong, or desperate for attention, depending upon your views.

What history tells us it that what ever group starts off as a righteous cause turns to intimidation and persecution. When the moral man is ignored he rolls up his sleeves and uses force.

The Mayor Sadiq has began to tick similarities with The Sheriff of Nottingham!!
Are they who are stopping him, Robin’s band of merrymen.
Strong men like this we need but watch out for the Sheriffs men? Ruthless beings to find you and make an example to the citizens of the ULEZ Sheriff? He will tolerate only obedience to his causes?
