Kim Jong-Drakeford Steps Down, After Turning Wales into North Korea During Pandemic

From draconian COVID-19 policies to failing healthcare and education, Spiked’s Austin Williams rips into Mark Drakeford’s dismal reign as Wales’ First Minister. Here’s an excerpt:

Mark Drakeford, First Minister of Wales, has announced that he will be stepping down at the next election. Don’t crack open the champagne just yet, as he has ominously added that ‘no firm date is set’. Still, it is good to know that his woeful premiership is finally coming to a close.

Drakeford began his political career in local politics, becoming the Labour Party member for Cardiff West in the Welsh Parliament (Senedd) in 2011. Even though Wales voted 52-48 to leave the EU, he continued to support the Remain camp as a staunch backer of the Corbynite Momentum faction, which was firmly pro-EU. Drakeford even served as Wales’ ‘Minister for Brexit’ from 2017 to 2018. He then won the leadership for Welsh Labour, becoming First Minister in 2018. …

Drakeford’s socialist-inspired atheism belies the fact that he often comes across as a Welsh Presbyterian vicar. This came to the fore during Covid, when he quickly became a lockdown fanatic. There was no Partygate scandal for him, largely because it is hard to imagine Drakeford actually enjoying himself. He doesn’t drink, but rather than keep his own mortification of the flesh to himself, he chose to impose abstemiousness on the nation during Covid, even banning the sale of alcohol in pubs and insisting they close by 6pm.

It was his management of the COVID-19 lockdowns that earned him the sobriquet, Kim Jong-Drakeford. He became something of a double act with then Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. They competed with each other to outdo Boris Johnson’s ever more draconian measures. This culminated with the official announcement that Drakeford had actually moved out of his family home, leaving his wife in residence, while he slept in his garden shed to avoid potentially spreading the virus. …

Then there is Drakeford’s record on education and healthcare. Wales has consistently ranked lowest in the U.K. in readingmathematics and science – performing significantly worse than English children and well below the OECD average. In the health sector, emergency-response rates have trended downwards across all of Wales. Doctors now warn of a possible collapse in GP surgeries, while dental services have already collapsed.

Worth reading in full.

I live in Wales but fortunately very close to the border so stuck 2 fingers up to the measures imposed by the useless, autocratic, marxist, teetotal creep (probably best not to use the actual words I’d like to use) by hopping over the border into England.
How the Welsh people continually vote for him and his useless coterie of socialist half-wits beggars belief.

Who is the depressing, parasitical, cardboard cut-out that is likely to replace him?

I’m sorry – I don’t follow Welsh politics – although I am affected, it really doesn’t interest me as the country is totally bought in to all the covid / climate change / woke bollocks and with the dominance of Labour, there’s not a lot you can do to change it. A tad defeatest, I know.
To answer your question – a tortoise with a red rosette is a good shout – similar (but better) looking than the incumbent but with added intelligence, charisma, credibility and gravitas.

Sadly, English politics is not that far removed from the insanity of Welsh politics.

Hear hear! Although I don’t live in Wales these days, I’m not surprised that you’ve compared the politics with North Korea. Maybe he can spend more time visiting his youngster in the slammer.

Astonished he isn’t facing a plethora of civil suits from mourning relatives.
Would welcome any ideas as to why not.

I remember that during the covid insanity, Drakeford declared that supermarkets were not allowed to sell non-essential items. Those items considered non-essential included clothes, including childrens and baby clothes (in the middle of winter too). “Essential” items which remained on sale included alcohol, flowers, and confectionary.

Although I will be glad to see the back of this joyless idiot, I doubt his replacement will be any better. The Welsh people will continue to vote Labour not because the party does anything good for Wales, but because they keep out the “bad guys” (the Tories). So the slide into economic oblivion will continue, the beautiful Welsh countryside will be blighted by bird chompers, and school kids will learn nothing except fifty shades of sexual perversion because the place can’t set itself free from its socialist shackles.

Sadly you could change Wales to Scotland and Labour to SNP and the second paragraph would still be spot on.

Unapologetic dump, because I can’t quite believe what I’m seeing. Is this actually happening where you live? I thought it’d be against the law or something because it’s, like, blasphemy or just highly insulting. Wouldn’t you think locals would protest this? Churches being turned into mosques! Could there be more obvious proof of the fact your Muslim numbers are increasing? 😮

No wonder there’s an increasing demand for those all-important places to pray. The invaders are being welcomed with open arms.

”UK Border Force and maritime authorities are on “Red Alert” as multiple small migrant boats have been spotted in the English Channel this morning.
The first group of around 50 arrived at Dover harbour at 3.30am on a Boder Force Catamaran.

From 6am, Coastguards received multiple sightings of other small boats from passing shipping in the Channel.
GB News journalists spotted boats with up to 65 people on each dinghy, as people smugglers continue to pack Channel migrant boats.
Around 755 migrants made the journey on Thursday – the highest daily number so far this year.
More than 100,000 crossings have been made since 2018 with 16,000 of those since the start of 2023.”

Riveting news. Wales to get new regional manager to continue pushing the same policies being forced on pretty much every western nation in the world. Absolutely riveting.

I agree with Austin Williams’ general sentiments about the appalling record of Drakeford and his govt here in Wales. But there are a couple of things in the piece that aren’t quite right. First, as far as I’m aware, ‘Presbyterian vicar’ isn’t a thing in Wales or anywhere else – Presbyterians have ministers, while it’s the Anglican denominations that have vicars. Second, there’s no mention of the fact that the most wicked covid measure of all, mandatory jabs for care workers and NHS staff, didn’t happen in Wales (or Scotland), thank goodness, but only in England under the Tories. So on the detail, the article is pretty sloppy and ignorant in my view.

Indeed. And didn’t Wales have the highest cumulative death rate of all four UK countries, despite (or perhaps because of) having the tightest restrictions?

Yeah, but it always does have a higher death rate.

Yes, each and every mention of Drakeford in any article was usually a joyless read and meant some new level of hell was being introduced. However, I seem to remember that he was actually caught dancing at a party during lockdowns or am I wrong? I mean putting the two words of ‘politician’ and ‘dancing’ together is not a good mix or good image – strange memories of Theresa May, bless her Absolute Zero traitorous socks, robotically trying to find rhythm and get down with the natives comes to mind. Anyway, I’m sure Wales will find another baked-in characterless substitute for Drakeford when what they really need is Owen Glendower to re-emerge and bring that great nation back to life (without all the Welsh nationalist stuff, mind you!). Wales has so many wonderful things going for it and yet it is always the same drab, dreary and unimaginative politicians who get to chart its course.

All the time the Welsh continue to vote for donkeys because they wear a red rosette, they will get idiots like Drakeford ruining Wales.

They vote Labour; they get what they deserve.

The people I feel sorry for are English taxpayers who are forced to fund Wales and who then see the Welsh crossing into England to make use of English NHS services because Welsh NHS services have collapsed.

Fascinating to see Ahern, sturgeon, Johnson, and now Drakeford “step down”. Or were they pushed? They did as they were told and now the next contingent of puppets enter in their place. Nothing has changed. Never forget what they did to humanity.

The Public should be aware that this is the test bed for the next Labour Government. Sir Kneeler will do exactly the same to England if he gets a chance. Vote for Reform, the last chance for Britain.

It wouldn’t surprise me if his advisers didn’t offer him the same advice offered to Bliar by his advisers i.e to go around the country holdings meetings: leave them wanting more.

I would not repeat those sentiments west of the bridge. Given the choice between Boris gargling Chablis in the garden and Drakeford sleeping in the shed to protect his wife’s health, there’s only one winner. The author has forgotten that the Welsh operate on their feelings and expect the leader to identify with them, suffer with with them. His policies were dead wrong but Drakeford still holds respect in Wales, even from his opponents.

Say some of those things in a random bar and the entire room would turn its back. The author does get a bonus point for holding this back for many months after Clare Drakeford’s sudden death in January.

It was under Drakeford that the Welsh space programme was set up. I’m not kidding you, see here https://www.gov.wales/new-plan-launch-wales-thriving-space-sector-orbit

I’m not sure whether the 20mph speed limit will apply to rockets, but they do seem determined to land a Welsh politician on planet Earth one day
