Is Europe Becoming Ungovernable? Dutch Government Falls After Failure to Agree Even Minimal Curbs to Mass Immigration
Dutch farmers are celebrating after Prime Minister Mark Rutte said he was quitting politics after his Government collapsed having failed to agree to restrict chain migration for asylum seekers. The Telegraph has more.
The longest-serving prime minister in Dutch history announced he was quitting politics after the Farmers-Citizen Movement (BBB) had called on him to step down immediately.
Mr. Rutte was facing a vote of no confidence in the Hague on Monday after the fall of the four-party Government on Friday over his push to restrict the right of asylum seekers to bring their families to the Netherlands. The motion was withdrawn after Mr. Rutte’s announcement.
The BBB, which vociferously opposed Mr. Rutte’s plans for compulsory farm buyouts to reduce nitrogen emissions and hit EU climate targets, leads the polls ahead of an election expected in autumn.
“Rutte will not return in the next cabinet, A very wise decision,” said BBB leader Caroline van der Plas, whose party won a landslide victory in regional elections in March dominated by headline-grabbing tractor protests.
“There has been speculation in recent days about what would motivate me. The only answer is: the Netherlands,” Mr. Rutte, the leader of the conservative VVD, the largest Dutch party, said in the Hague.
“On Sunday I decided that I will not be available as a leader for the VVD in the upcoming elections,” added the 56-year-old politician dubbed ‘Teflon Mark’ after leading four coalitions over 13 years in office.
Mr. Rutte, who first took power in October 2010, said he wanted to continue as caretaker Prime Minister until the elections.
His coalition partners made it clear over the weekend they blamed him for the cabinet crisis, as he pressed for limits on family migration, even though he knew the measures went too far for junior partner Christian Union.
“I think this is the right time to pass the baton,” Mr. Rutte said, “I think it’s a wonderful job and would love to fight to continue, but at the same time I have to ask myself every time an election: what is wise? And this feels good.”
The BBB, which has called for a cap on asylum seekers, came from nowhere to become the largest party in all 12 Dutch provinces in the regional vote that became a referendum on Mr. Rutte’s lengthy time in office.
According to polling by Europe Elects, the BBB would be the biggest party after the election with 16.8% of the vote, ahead of VVD with 14.8%.
That the final trouble for the Government was owing to the major parties not being able to agree even the smallest the immigration restriction demanded by the electorate is very similar to the trouble in Britain where the Tory Government is finding it nigh-on impossible to implement even limits on illegal immigration. The European elite’s obsession with open borders despite the policy being plainly opposed by most voters is creating democratic crises across the continent and making many countries appear ungovernable. What will it take for the woke ideologues running the continent to jettison their commitment to unrestricted migration? I suppose we may soon find out.

Civil war is coming.
I hope not.
Civil disobedience.
Civil war – buy a crossbow (still unlicensed) and a large supply of quarrels.
I think it is, I also think it’s part of the plan, civil unrest
will justify the Marxist Authoritarian model they have in store for us.
When it was first announced that the cabinet had collapsed, Rutte said he intended to stay on. As the party that is deemed responsible for a cabinet collapse usually loses seats in the subsequent general elections, the leader steps down. When Rutte said he was intending to stay on, I assumed he had a plan – VVD governing with BBB, a more natural bed fellow than current Demons666 and the ridiculous CU that seems to think the country is their personal church. VVD, BBB and the CDA, which if it managed to persuade Pieter Omtzigt back into the fold, would be assured of a strong majority and parties pretty much on the same page – and would have gone a long way toward re-establishing trust. Although I’m not sorry to see Rutte go, I’m not sure what to make of it. He may have stepped down simply because they were threatening to present a motion of no confidence and he probably would have been pushed out. But he would have known all along that that was likely to happen. There is now talk of EU ‘green’ Commissioner Frans Timmermans coming back to lead the PvdA, the Dutch Labour Party. My… Read more »
Well put.. that’s exactly as I see it too. Smoke and mirrors and the ‘plan’ must go on..
Hear what Eva Vlardingerbroek says on this. Readers here might remember her from the Mark Steyn show on GB News. ‘I would love to be the new Farage’: Eva Vlaardingerbroek on the Dutch farmer protests and ‘Nexit’ – YouTube
Disgusting.
This is a perfectly normal feature of so-called proportional representation systems and the main reason why these are very much undesirable. Under such a system, party functionaries compile lists of candidates for seats in parliament ordered from most-preferred to least-preferred and all so-called voters are allowed to do is to chose the list they like best (or dislike least). Apart from that, voters are entirely powerless and the people who end up in parliament represent their parties or rather, the leaders of their parties and not the people who voted for them. That’s necessarily the case because the only way to retain a promising position on such a party list is to ensure that the party leaders are happy with their MPs.
*Some* proportional representational systems.
It should be – why the hell do 28 different countries have a single Government?
They don’t. The EU is still a confederation of states and not a federal state and an EU government still doesn’t exist. The highest political gremium of the EU is the European council where representatives of the governments of the EU member states discuss and vote on EU-wide policy decisions.
You’re wrong RW.. the EU Parliament is absolutely toothless talkingshop, and even if it wasn’t.. a sizeable chunk of it is completely controlled by that cretin George Soros. The unelected European Commission pulls the strings in Europe, and frequently overrules the so called elected representatives..
The European commission pulls the strings of absolutely nothing because it’s the head of the EU adminstration and solely responsible for executing political decisions made by the European council.
Because it is a globalist experiment. The EU is the star pupil in the world governance crusade, where everything will be run by technocrats, who most people will have never heard of and were never voted for. They use International treaties and agreements to govern the planet, eg The Paris Agreement, which is nothing to do with climate but all to do with the worlds wealth and resources. Trump was the only western leader not to play ball on this eco socialist pretend to save the planet stuff by withdrawing from it.
And speaking of immigration, seems your George Eustice has changed his tune and wants to borrow thousands of young workers from the EU; ”Britain needs to reopen its borders to tens of thousands of EU migrants to fill labor shortages and tackle inflation, a former pro-Brexit Conservative minister has claimed. George Eustice, who advocated in favor of Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union during the 2016 referendum, called on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to negotiate “youth-mobility visa scheme” with EU nations which would see young Europeans under the age of 35 able to apply for two-year working visas in Britain. “The flaws in our current so-called skills-based immigration system are becoming clearer by the day because we have got a policy that does not correspond to the needs of our economy,” Eustice said in an exclusive interview with The Observer newspaper. ”My proposal is that we commence bilateral negotiations with EU member states, starting with countries like Bulgaria, Romania and the Baltic states, and widen it to the whole of the EU eventually, to establish a reciprocal youth-mobility visa scheme.” A previously unsuccessful candidate for the anti-EU U.K. Independence Party (UKIP) in European parliamentary elections, Eustice was a prominent member… Read more »
Eustice us a bloody turncoat. Bought off clearly.
He’s a politician hux.. quite normal behaviour..
Europe is becoming ungovernable, but that’s not the fault of the citizens. Western governments have conceded their sovereignty first to the EU and then to the WEF. They no more represent the people that voted for them than Ellesmere Port U16 football team. They have lied to get elected and then taken that as the permission to do whatever the hell they like whether you and I like it, and whether it is counter productive to the welfare and benefit of the citizens. Its a complete corruption of democracy. Willem Von Humboldt said that government should be about limiting itself to the issues of strict necessity. Food, peace at home and ability to achieve peace with its neighbours. Instead we have reams and reams of un-necessary regulation of every aspect of our lives.
That same Mark Rutte for whom we have testimony from a former senior member of the Dutch judiciary about his presence in a ritual where children were murdered?
Schwab’s best mate, who praised his best mate’s books?
That guy?
Ah, such shame..
“we have testimony from a former senior member of the Dutch judiciary about his presence in a ritual where children were murdered?”
I have read about this. Clearly he’s a bloody psychopath – literally and figuratively.
They all are.. its absolutely necessary for the positions they are levered into.
The European “Elites” are committed to the Coudenhove-Kalergi Plan: enforced unification of the nations of Eurasia and mass immigration to create a mongrel race …. with national identity and physical characteristics eliminated.
It’s very late in the day, but at last the people of the European nations are pushing back.
I think we can take Bilderberger Ken Clarke’s article in yesterday’s DT, calling for the Globalists in the Establishment to accept a massively watered-down Rwanda Plan, as evidence that the Bilderbergers are extremely concerned that the Blue-Green branch of the Westminster Uni-Party really may be annihilated at the next General Election …… and a real right of centre party, putting the interests of the UK first, may replace it.

I read a very important book about 10 years ago by Bruce Bauer called “While Europe Slept”. ———I aways knew that people could sleepwalk but I never knew a whole continent could. But the sleepwalking of Europe to cultural disaster is well presented in Bruce Bauers book. When you cannot protect your border, you cannot protect your values or culture, and that is exactly what is occurring on mass with open border Liberal Progressives destroying the national identities all over Europe, with only Poland and Hungary taking a stance against migrant quotas.
Another conservative government doing the exact opposite of what its voters want. What happened to representative democracy? They should be representing their own people not the WEF.
Farmers Weeding for a Better Harvest . & who was behind the notion of stepping down??
It’ll be easily governable, if the “politicians” begin to act in the interests of theor own citizens.
