Wind Industry Blackmails U.K. Demanding Huge Ramp-Up of Subsidies
In a move that gives the lie to years of propaganda claiming falling costs, the wind industry’s leading lobbyists have written to the Government threatening to abandon the U.K. unless subsidies for their companies are hugely increased.
The industry lobbyists claim that unforeseen rising costs now require three actions:
- A revision to the auction rules so that the winners are not determined by lowest bids but by an administrative decision that weights bids according to their ‘value’ in contributing towards the Net Zero targets.
- Special new targets and thus market shares for floating offshore wind, one of the most expensive of all forms of generation;
- A vast increase in the budget for the fifth auction (AR5) of Contracts for Difference subsidies, with an increase of two and half times the current levels for non-floating offshore wind alone;
Such changes, were the Government to agree to them, would not only increase the total amount of subsidy to an industry that was until recently claiming no longer to need public support, but also provide the industry with protected shares of the energy market, eliminating risks for investors at the expense of the paying public. It would also clearly be an open invitation to corruption.
Climate lobby group Net Zero Watch has urged the Government to stand up for consumers by rejecting the wind industry’s latest demands.
Dr. John Constable, Net Zero Watch’s Energy Director, said: “It would be both absurd and counterproductive for Government to bail out the wind industry in spite of the evident failure to reduce costs. A refusal to learn from mistakes will be disastrous.”
In a press release, the organisation argued the Government should “reject the self-serving demands” because the U.K. economy should not be expected to continue to subsidise a sector “that is still uneconomic after nearly 20 years of above-market prices and guaranteed market share”.
“The wind experiment has failed and must be wound down,” it adds.
The Government should also be mindful that U.K. households and businesses are already experiencing extreme pressures on budgets, and a further burden on the energy bill should not be tolerated, it says.
This is particularly the case as the wind industry’s current cost difficulties are “neither unforeseen nor unpredicted but have been obvious to careful observers for over a decade”.

Absurd and counter-productive seems to cover a lot of government policy for the last 20 years.
Quite a bit longer than 20 years, approaching 40 I’d say.
Yes. Blair at the root of much of what is now happening…
The rot started with the 1945 GE, the windrush was the final nail in the coffin, although people didn’t realise it at the time.
Knock me down with a feather. Who could possibly have predicted this.
Bird choppers – not Green, inefficient, ineffective, and they kill plenty of birds.
1-Each MW of wind power ‘capacity’ requires 220 Tonnes of coal. ‘Carbon footprint’ of a typical wind turbine is a massive 241.85 tons of CO2.
2-EACH 3MW Wind Turbine Needs: 335 tons of steel; 4.7 tons of copper; 1,200 tons of concrete (cement and aggregates), 3 tons of aluminium; 2 tons of rare earth elements etc
3-The Bird chopping blades, each weighing around 10,000 kilograms, the size of a jet fighter, contain multiple materials including: resin, balsa wood, aluminium, non-recyclable fibre, fibreglass, bolts, varnish, and toxic plastics.
4-The Bird Choppers need 700 gallons of oil to run, replaced every 6 months, and the entire structure including the blades and the turbine needs replacement every 15-20 years. The Blades don’t have a long life and are buried in Gaia’s tender skin in massive graveyards – out of public view.
5-The birds are being massacred at the European average of 500 birds per turbine per year.
Cui bono? Certainly not us, nor the ‘environment’.
Yup
Not long ago I noticed the RSPB used a photo of wind turbines in their publicity. These are intelligent people?
I recently came across an RSPB stand at a local fair.
The young activist was rather startled when I told her I’d start taking the RSPB seriously when they campaigned AGAINST bird-slaughtering windmills and started campaigning AGAINST bird-slaughtering pet cats.
The RSPB is a joke.
These lobbyists have more brass neck than a Central African statue.
“…the wind industry’s leading lobbyists have written to the Government threatening to abandon the U.K. unless subsidies for their companies are hugely increased.”
Seems like an excellent opportunity to be rid of them all. All that nonsense about loads of green jobs and cheap ‘clean’ energy. It’s only cheap if people pay a large amount of tax up front. Isn’t this how scams work?
“In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill….All these dangers are caused by human intervention….and thus the ‘real enemy, then, is humanity itself….believe humanity requires a common motivation, namely a common adversary in order to realize world government. It does not matter if this common enemy is ‘a real one or….one invented for the purpose.” –
Club of Rome
It always comes back to the Club of Rome.
You mean Lazio? ———–Just kidding.
It won’t last for long we wil have bigger fish to fry. But be mindful of the mindsets that allow our society to go down this route. It isn’t rocket science we need to keep the wellbeing of the countryside away from corporate interests. Maybe look at corporate law just an idea.
It was always a scam. “Reducing costs” was never a goal.
These things are being erected across some of the most beautiful parts of our Country as a reminder (even when you’re trying to get away from the troubles of the world) of the folly of Net Zero. I thought that they were hideous bird killers before now I read that they are actually polluters too…..
The renewables industry are Subsidy Farmers. ————No one would ever build a turbine without the 100% subsidy because they are totally uneconomical. I cannot think of any other technology that gets a guaranteed price for their product. Can you imagine the manufacturers of cars 100 years ago having to get 100% subsidy from government in order to force people off a horse and into cars. ————-Yet those climate crisis junkies will try and tell you that renewables are now cheaper than fossil fuels. Which is ofcourse totally absurd. If I sell red jeans and get no government subsidy, but the sellers of yellow jeans get 100% government subsidy then it is clear that the yellow jeans seller will have a huge advantage over me that he would not have without the massive subsidy. Everything Green is more expensive and worse, and it is being foisted on us based on irrational fear about a phony climate crisis.
Yep!. They miss the most basic of economic principles, that if an item needs subsidy, it is not economically viable. Subsidy equals loss, no profit, only extra tax on the populous.
Grifters gonna keep grifting. Time for a closer look at Dale Vince and Ecotricity too.

About the 1880’s R & D from various quarters concluded that electricity could be generated by using a wind turbine, although some consider 1834 as the date of the first photo electric cell unit. So after 140 -190 years it is still not good enough to be relied upon with certainty, so as an observation, I would conclude it never will be.
