Invite Drag Queens into Schools to “Challenge Heteronormative Culture”, Says Largest Teaching Union
Drag queens should be invited into schools to make them more inclusive, the U.K.’s biggest teaching union has said in a vote to challenge the “heteronormative culture and curriculum that dominates education”. The Telegraph has the story.
Members of the National Education Union (NEU) voted to support LGBT+ initiatives including drag queen storytime and inviting LGBT+ authors to speak in schools at the union’s annual conference in Harrogate on Wednesday.
They said that the activities would help to challenge the “heteronormative culture and curriculum that dominates education”.
Teachers voted through the motion after Shelby Millard, a teacher working at a secondary school in Sutton, Surrey, told delegates that Rishi Sunak “is supporting the far-Right attacks on drag queen storytime” and “the murder of beautiful souls like Brianna [Ghey]”.
Two teenagers were charged in February with the murder of transgender teenager Brianna Ghey, who was found with stab wounds in a park.
The union later issued a statement saying that Ms Millard “unreservedly apologises for the wording of her conference speech” after she met with NEU officials.
An NEU spokesperson said: “She apologises and withdraws the specific allegation that Rishi Sunak supported the murder of a young trans girl. Many trans and non-binary teachers feel strongly that the Government is not doing enough to support them but it is essential that we always debate policy solutions in calm and measured ways.”
NEU members agreed that the Government is “creating a hostile environment” for trans people by blocking Scotland’s gender reform plans to allow people over 16 to change their legal sex by signing a statutory declaration.
This has “encouraged the far-Right to organise further attacks on drag queen storytime and has created an atmosphere where hate crime can thrive,” they said.
MPs and groups such as the Women’s Rights Network have raised concerns that drag queens provide sexualised adult entertainment that is not suitable for children.
Miriam Cates, Conservative MP, said: “It is highly concerning that the NEU is endorsing the exposure of young children to drag queens dressed and performing in a highly sexualised way in the supposed safety of the classroom. I can’t believe that most teachers or parents would support this and I would urge the NEU to revisit some basic safeguarding principles.”
Tanya Carter, from Safe Schools Alliance, said: “NEU’s persistence in abandoning established safeguarding the minute they are distracted by glitter and rainbows brings the entire teaching profession into disrepute. This is an insult to our members and all other teachers who work incredibly hard to protect children.”
The NEU will encourage all schools to set up LGBT+ spaces after the motion was voted through on Wednesday.

Could someone please explain to me who bestowed a general political mandate on teachers to challenge the heteronormative culture and curriculum that dominates education or, put into other words, to divert public money into propaganda supposed to install the false notion that homosexuality is something other than a spare time activity of a tiny minority of the adult population into the mind of school children of all ages?
It’s also worth to remember that that’s the same NEU which is so seriously concerned with the welfare and education of pupils that schools would still be closed Because of COVID if the NEU could have decided that, or, their lesser evil, pupils would spend their days masked to the hilt and start them with forced COVID testing combined with draconic quarantine regime.
They were doing their worst to harm children who couldn’t escape them back then. They’re still doing this now.

I agree, I think the Government and the Trans/drag lobby are using the gay community as a shield to hide behind, they are it seems hell bent on creating as much division in society and stirring up hatred between men and women, and the gay community, unfortunately the Government and public institutions seem to be going along with the deceit.

Well to be pedantic about it, I assume you’re not getting paid for it or doing it during work time, so it is a spare time activity – just as heterosexuality is.
I’ve been perplexed for a long time how a perfectly reasonable quest for equality for gay people (who cares what two consenting adults do with their privates) should have allowed itself to be hijacked by the trans lobby and what is worse the sexualising of children.
So is doing a dump in the toilet also a part time activity. Why single out gay people’s ‘activity’ as part time? Totally agree. There’s not enough words to describe how disgusting and unethical this is on so many levels. I mean, even independent of the whole trans thing, kids shouldn’t be exploited and indoctrinated in the name of entertainment and be looking at naked adults up on stage anyway! So the obvious question is, what kind of parents let their kids go on such TV shows and what kind of people even get the final say on this being the subject matter for a TV show in the first place? Completely warped. They’ve already been around, normalising the eating of insects and brainwashing the kids in Dutch schools here, though thankfully not our province. Let’s just say I’m paying much closer attention to what kiddo is getting taught in primary school now. 🙁

Can we please accept that trans ideology is not an attack by men on women. Women are in fact now the main promoters of this ideology.

I believe this is drivers by twisted gay men who cannot accept their homosexuality and take it out on feminists and others who have reservation about the trans movement. If it is being driven by men, why are women lawmakers in Kansas trying to allow trans to participate in men sports and male law makers trying to stop it?
To be honest this feels like trying to explain to a vax enthusiast the dangers of covid jabs but the person has just heard too many times “safe and effective” and refuses to see the evidence right there in front of them.
If one cherry picks on the bases of the fruits of one’s confirmation bias, one may miss the wood for the trees. The puppets’ (both male and female) strings are pulled from much higher up the food chain. If we are going to have any chance of understanding what is going on and stop it, we need to drop the whole gender war blame game and stop allowing ourselves to be mis-directed by it.
We live in the UK so my observation relates to our country. America has very strange politics and their division is less male/female and more Rep/Dem. Of course there are women who support the sexualisation of children, and we abhor that. Here in the UK, whenever you see trans activists (as far as I can see, they are not trans women, but mainly men dressed like women). And I deduce, from own experience and interaction with other gay men, that these are twisted and angry ones who would pick any fight with anyone they disagree with or dislike. I don’t see your point re vax. I don’t trust the vaccine but I took it anyway because I need to survive and carry on life in London, since (at one point) that was the only way to go out and about.

OK. I’m quite likely the oldest, grumpiest, curmudgeon on here today. But when I read this stuff and reflect on how my own, beloved Great Grandchildren have had their education buggered up for the lat three years, how they have had their heads filled with zero-rational covid, climate, trans, shite whilst their so-called teachers want to double down on the damage they have caused, go on self indulgent strikes, up the stakes on perverting the little minds entrusted to them; I just want to take a bloody big whip down to their school. Of course, I realise that would be beyond the pale (and beyond my physical ability to do what’s urgently needed). But, when confronted with a little girl, starting with mild self-harming, obviously confused and tearful about what kind of life she will have and whether, actually, she might be a little boy….At that point I find it challenging to know what to do for the best.
