Global Disinformation Index Defunded by National Endowment for Democracy for Attacking Conservative News Outlets
The Global Disinformation Index (GDI), a group funded by George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, has lost financial support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) for its role in demonetising conservative news outlets. Breitbart News has more.
“[G]iven our commitment to avoid the perception that NED is engaged in any work domestically, directly or indirectly, we no longer provide financial support to GDI,” Damon Wilson, CEO of NED, told Breitbart News in a statement.
“As set forth in our Articles of Incorporation and the NED Act, our mandate is to work around the world and not in the United States,” Wilson explained. “We have strict policies and practices in place so that NED and the work we fund remains internationally focused, ensuring the endowment does not become involved in domestic politics.”
Wilson also noted the organisation only recently became aware that GDI was “funded by a different donor, that focused on specific U.S. media outlets.”
According to a source with knowledge of NED’s decision to defund GDI, GOP House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) was instrumental in ensuring that GDI no longer would receive financial support from NED. Stefanik, an NED board member, has been concerned about the targeting of conservative voices and media, especially GDI seeking to demonetise them.
NED’s decision to defund GDI is significant because NED is funded by the State Department. Financial documents show that NED has received over $300 million from the agency since 2021. Critics say the State Department’s funding of NED and its prior relationship to GDI was “a Government grantmaking body” despite its legal status as a not-for-profit organisation.
“The State Department should not be funding woke organisations who seek to censor and demonetize conservative outlets,” Stefanik said last week. “House Republicans will assert our oversight over the State Department’s funding of these type of groups.”

Where on earth does the government believe it draws its authority to allow the funding of “news” organisations such as GDI? And within the last couple of days it has been revealed the Foreign office has been chucking aid money about to buy arms and promote propoganda in dodgy hot spots in the Middle East.
British taxpayers have never had a say in these matters but doubtless would not support them. At a time when household budgets are under severe strain its about time this sort of frankly underhanded profligacy was stopped. Some hope.

Global Disinformation….start with the BBC, ITV, the Fake News, the Fake $cience, Pharma, WEF, UN, WHO….not a single thing these outlets stated during the Rona scamdemic was true. Not a one.
So the NED will henceforth destabilise only other countries than the US, for US interests. I notice that Britain is another country.
My thoughts, exactly. They’re doing stuff that’s formally illegal/ semilegal in the USA because of the US constitution. So, once they’ve been caught doing it, they’re trying to wash their hand of it. But outside of the USA, the US constitution obviously doesn’t apply, hence, trying to crush politcally unwelcome news sources is just fine.
Combating “fake news” and fighting “disinformation” sound like noble aims. In practice, it just ends up being a tool used for political ends. I tend to think the whole thing should be abandoned and we rely on caveat emptor and an adversarial system where people make their own minds up based on different sources as they see fit.

Censorship has been around for millennia… Fascism only since 1919 when Mussolini invented it.
Censorship, oppression and tyranny are not tools exclusive to Fascism, and do not define nor are they defined by Fascism, they are evident and inevitable when there is ‘Government’ of any kind – it’s only a question of degree. The only cure is to rid ourselves of ‘Government’ as a power over the individual.
Fighting against fake news and disinformation, is actually fighting for the ability to decide what people to hear.
Of course fighting to remove people’s autonomy doesn’t sound noble, so it has to be spun to sound noble.
Combating “fake news” and fighting “disinformation” sound like noble aims.
Does it? In so-called democracy, all political parties opposing each other routinely claim that the parties on the other side spread fake news and disinformation, ie, are not telling the truth because they expect to benefit from that. The only way to achieve some degree of objectivity on this is by dilligent, historical ex-post-factum research and even then, many things still remain a matter of opinion. And that was in civilised times, ie, before the postmodernists absolished the concept.
I guess by “sound like” I meant “sound like to most people who are not thinking too deeply on subject”.

Sadly this is just smoke and mirrors. With Soros & Co. funding it the GDI won’t bat an eyelid at this or other governments withdrawing funding.
