Jeremy Clarkson “Likely to be Dropped by Amazon” After Apologising to Meghan Over Column
Jeremy Clarkson will likely be dropped by Amazon, it has been reported, as he revealed he had emailed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to apologise for his “disgraceful” column, which is alleged to have “incited violence against Meghan”. The Telegraph has the story.
The former Top Gear host wrote in the Sun last month that he had dreamed of the Duchess being paraded through British towns naked while crowds hurl excrement and chant “shame”.
He claimed that “everyone who’s my age thinks the same way”.
In a lengthy post published on his Instagram page, Clarkson suggested that he was apologising because he had been asked to and admitted that both ITV and Amazon were “incandescent”.
But he insisted he was sorry “all the way from the balls of my feet to the follicles on my head”.
He said he had emailed the Sussexes to apologise on Christmas Day but at the same time, told the couple he was “baffled” by their Netflix series.
Meanwhile, industry sources revealed that Amazon Prime Video, which broadcasts The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm, would likely be parting ways with the presenter and would not be working on any further seasons beyond those already commissioned.
It would mean that Clarkson would likely not appear in any new shows on Prime Video beyond 2024, according to Variety.
His column was eventually removed from the Sun’s website – at Clarkson’s request – after 17,500 complaints made it the most complained-about article in the press regulator’s history.
The row escalated again last week, when Prince Harry told ITV in an interview that the “cruel” article incited violence against women and said the monarchy’s silence on the matter was “deafening”.
Clarkson noted on Instagram that apologies never work. Yet he grovelled before Duchess Difficult anyway. He wrote:
One of the strange things I’ve noticed in recent times is that whenever an MP or a well-known person is asked to apologise for something, no matter how heartfelt or profound that apology may be, it’s never enough for the people who called for it in the first place.
So I’m going to try and buck the trend this morning with an apology for the things I said in a Sun column recently about Meghan Markle. I really am sorry. All the way from the balls of my feet to the follicles on my head. This is me putting my hands up. It’s a mea culpa with bells on.
Usually, I read what I’ve written to someone else before filing, but I was home alone on that fateful day, and in a hurry. So when I’d finished, I just pressed Send. And then, when the column appeared the next day, the landmine exploded.
Clarkson claims he had inadvertently omitted to mention it was a Game of Thrones reference.
We’ve all been there, I guess. In that precise moment when we suddenly realise we’ve completely messed up. You are sweaty and cold at the same time. And your head pounds. And you feel sick. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Had I really said that? It was horrible.
I knew what had happened straight away. I’d been thinking of a scene in Games Of Thrones, but I’d forgotten to mention this. So it looked like I was actually calling for revolting violence to rain down on Meghan’s head.
I was very angry with myself because in all those controversial days on Top Gear, when I was accused of all sorts of things, it was very rarely sexism.
I was mortified and so was everyone else. My phone went mad. Very close friends were furious. Even my own daughter took to Instagram to denounce me.
He expresses worry that he won’t be able to write interesting columns anymore now that he must remain “vigilant” against offending the professionally offended.
So can I move on now? Not sure. It’s hard to be interesting and vigilant at the same time. You never hear peals of laughter coming from a health and safety seminar. But I promise you this, I will try.
Never apologise to the woke, Jeremy. It has only ever made things worse.
Let’s hope Amazon doesn’t drop him, and bring to an end the The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm. You’d think the company would realise that if it doesn’t stand by its hugely popular talent, it doesn’t deserve them. But the ‘woke mind virus’ makes people do some very self-destructive things.
Worth reading in full.
Stop Press: The Sussexes have rejected Clarkson’s apology, saying he has a “long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny”. MailOnline has more.

Profanity and abuse will be removed and may lead to a permanent ban.
Mr Clarkson will never be without a media outlet for his hilarious and irreverent output.
For every person upset by his article, there will be ten others delighted.
Good luck to him.
I imagine and hope you are right, which makes it all the more disappointing that he did apologise. Apologies have their place in this world, but there is far too much public apologising that is normalising offence-taking, cancel culture and normalising the idea that certain things should not be said. The prevailing wisdom seems to favour fake niceness over truth, sincerity and accuracy. The default response should now be “So what? I don’t care.”.
I have a feeling that the use of the word ‘balls’ in his apology may have summed up his real view.
I would guess he apologised simply to give himself time to line up a new outlet.
I wish I believed that, but I suspect he genuinely doesn’t want to piss everyone off too much. Aren’t most people like that? How many public figures can you think of that pretty much never apologise for anything of this kind?
Piers Morgan take a bow.
I shoot from the hip, too, Jezza…
If we weighed all our words the world would be a very dull place.
Rock on, mate!
Offence is taken, not given.
I used to love Top Gear. I thought the three of them were hilarious and really complemented eachother, but he went and cocked that up as well. Anyway, who’s feeling “shame” now Jeremy? Carry on grovelling, there’s something extremely karmic about how massively you’ve managed to humiliate yourself. I just feel bad for your daughter. I wouldn’t blame her if she disowned you. What a role model dad you are!🙄
His daughter was a woke idiot who displayed Maoist behaviour towards her father, who probably bank rolls her. Clarkson will be fine and netflix will probably scoop up both shows.
BBC screwed up Top Gear, not Clarkson.
Ah you mean how any employee, so long as they have an ego the size of a small island nation, should be allowed to physically assault another member of staff and it should be totally overlooked, so long as they’re raking in the wonga?🤔 Mmkaay…Yeah, good luck finding any employer on the planet Normal who would tolerate that kind of behaviour.
F in hell Mogs it’s not like you to interrupt your well received input with a hashtagme2 type outburst of this scale ! What’s up ?
It’s nothing to do with ”me2” Freddy. I’ve zero interest in Meghan ( or any royal anymore ) or Clarkson. But off the back of his nasty, inappropriate comment that he made I think he should reap what he sows. People need to be held accountable for their spiteful comments and not get to hide behind Big Tech platforms, assuming there’ll be no pushback. There’s Free Speech and then there’s behaving like a total arsehole. My opinion on Meghan is irrelevant in this discussion. I have none anyways.
If somebody tweeted, especially if they had the following Clarkson does, that they hate your wife ( insert name ) and that she should be paraded naked with shit pelted at her would you think, ”Ah free speech, no biggie. Get over it love!”? If a colleague punched you in the face at work do you think they should keep their job?
I suspect there’s a lot of double standards at play here but because it’s the dastardly Meghan she’s fair game for all the vitriol people wish to aim her way.
I’m with you all the way Mogs:
This is why.
School children have committed suicide because of abuse delivered to them on their mobile phones.
Jezza’s behaviour and particularly the “excrement” comment is no different from any school bully and is an incitement and encouragement for others to act out his personal fantasy.
Hey loves!👋 Knew that’d reel yous in. I was starting to feel bereft, wondering where my Misogynist Society entourage were at.🥰 Totes flattered..🤣
If that was aimed at me you just replied to yrself. The piles cream has clearly made yr finger slip.
My post clearly states who it was aimed at, but you at least have some degree of self-awareness apparently.😁 So glad you identify..👍
You replied to yourself, anyone who can read can see that, no number of silly emojis can disguise that fact.
Anyone with eyes and functional brain can see it was a continuation to the post above. So I guess that excludes you then! 😉
Thanks, next time reply to the post itself and it won’t look like you are having a discussion with yourself.
Bored yawn.
Hi Mogs,
Steer clear of the personal remarks like “Anyone with eyes and functional brain”. There are plenty of others who will stoop to personal remarks. There are other ways to deal with it.
Looking at all these negative ‘likes’ I am a little concerned about the nature of the forum I have joined.
It was refreshing to have access to the Daily Sceptic articles and a forum to comment on free from the ubiquitous trolls thugs and bullies found elsewhere on the net.
I’m with you all the way Mogs:
Freedom for speech and freedom from abuse
School children have committed suicide because of abuse delivered to them on their mobile phones.
Jezza’s behaviour and particularly the “excrement” comment is no different from any school bully and is an incitement and encouragement for others to act out his personal fantasy.
👍 I’m exactly the same re this place. It’s become a hub for misogynists and bullies to legitimise their cowardly behaviour and spiteful views, all from the the safe space that is sat behind their screens. And dressing up what is blatantly abuse as “free speech” is just pathetic.
But I’ll always challenge inappropriate behaviour and I couldn’t give a rodent’s butt about the reception I get. I’ve been called many things in my life but “people pleaser” isn’t one of them!😁
“I’ve been called many things in my life but “people pleaser” isn’t one of them!”
Not born to be loved – by the great unwashed that is.
It is the fate of all iconoclasts.
Amazon useless business decision. Their content is mostly awful except for Clarkson farm and GT. Note – I don’t pay for their excrement use my father in law’s login.
Then Amazon definitely to be dropped by me. So depressing. Why the F did Clarkson apologise??
Seeing outspoken, talented, honest, genuinely interesting and genuinely funny people – or in other words normal human beings – become willing victims of the global offence taking festival is like watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers – the truly terrifying 1978 Donald Sutherland version.
Because he’s an over-rated, egotistical, irrelevant, arrogant, spiteful, vindictive, fat git? Just a stab in the dark…🤷♀️
If nothing else, Mogs, it’s interesting to see the average profile behind the ticks!
Quite right – and I’ve met him
Hi Mogs,
All I agree are opinions you should be free to express subject of course to defamation and harassment laws and except the ‘fat git’ remark. It is a personal remark which could be considered a term of abuse [except in some circumstances it can be a humorous term of endearment but here that is unlikely.]
Why did he apologise?
In my view, this is why.
School children have committed suicide because of abuse delivered to them on their mobile phones.
Yr conflating two completely separate issues, bullying of a child at school is in no way comparable to satirising multi millionaires with publicists. He obviously apologised for legal reasons relating to his Amazon shows. His article was spot on and hilarious, it takes a very pious person to not see it was a joke.
You are wrong. And here you create a straw man. You claim bullying and abuse is “satirising”. Bullying and abuse is just that regardless of to whom it is addressed. And it is always unnecessary and inappropriate. So you say you want to be free to bully and abuse even if it causes some people to self-harm and commit suicide. At the top of the comments on this and every Daily Sceptic page it says “abuse will be removed and may lead to a permanent ban.” So it is never acceptable even here. If you cannot express yourself civilly you do not deserve free speech and no free speech is without its moral or legal limits. And in my comment here I corrected my prior comments to include adults: “It makes me sad when schoolchildren and adults self-harm and commit suicide because people engage in online abuse.” Once we start making exceptions there is no end to it. You say rich people with publicists should be subjected to abuse and bullying. Who else will then be added to the exception? All rich people? And who decides who is rich? Anyone with the services of a publicist even if they can… Read more »
I thought the Cersei analogy was quite clever.
He shouldn’t have apologised. They were never going to accept it: all he has done is validated their agenda of victim-hood.
He was perfectly entitled to air his opinions about these awful self-publicists. And if that means the likes of Amazon drop his shows then SO BE IT.
Exercising your right of FREE SPEECH means there may be unpleasant consequences.
Amazon’s actions baffle me – I could understand if it had been Netflix.
All the more reason never to use their services or watch their channel ever, although I did enjoy Clarkson’s Farm when OH once got Amazon Prime.
The royal whingers are bringing me out in hives; I really do loathe the pair of them and it feels so good to be a ‘nobody’ who can say that freely.
Not content with an apology though, the self styled humanitarian dimwits went back on the attack to trash Clarkson with a barrage of social justice darts. ——–Harry, you look like a toilet brush and I don’t apologise for pointing that out.
Hi varmint,
I appreciate there is a lot of anger about Harry and Meghan and whilst I sympathise, please try to steer clear of gratuitous personal remarks. Things can rapidly turn nasty when that happens. eg.s “self styled … dimwits” “Harry, you look like a toilet brush”.
Aren’t we supposed to be the good guys here and not like the ubiquitous online trolls bullies and abusers elsewhere on the web?
I think that the grovelling apology made this much worse. Of course we don’t know exactly how much pressure he was under but if he could have said nothing after the outrage following the article I believe that it would have blown over. I read his column and thought it was typical Clarkson humour and it made me smile. The main problem is that more people didn’t get the GoT reference than one might have expected.
Whilst he who lives by the sword dies by the sword, the pen is mightier and at a stroke Clarkson has learnt the hard way. It is the ultimate in karma. “What goes around comes around” and it came around big time and Jezza got it right in the butt. Whilst free speech is important freedom to abuse is a curse the modern digital age has magnified a thousand-fold. One can engage in the former without resorting to the latter. Freedom of speech yes but also freedom from abuse. School children have committed suicide because of abuse delivered to them on their mobile phones – they had no escape from what was delivered directly to them – nowhere to run and nowhere to hide until it eventually killed them. Now imagine Jezza in short pants at school with a phone and social media instead of writing in a newspaper. Clarkson turned to hate and bile against “Duchess” Meghan Markle with the excrement remark being an incitement and encouragement to others to act out what he imagined. It served no purpose in explaining why she might be wrong nor in expressing anything informative except what a nasty man Jezza can be… Read more »
Truly hilarious. At the time of writing some one single person has studiously visited and down voted all my comments on this thread without discrimination.
The same treatment as Mogwai. Ha!
Looks like for some here freedom of speech only applies to speech they approve of.
How interesting.
Every comment section here has at the top “Profanity and abuse will be removed and may lead to a permanent ban.”
So the “management” recognises freedom of speech is not an absolute right for all speech and that abuse is not covered.
If Jezza commented here with his excrement remark – would he have been booted off?
I would hope so.
Great posts!👏 Bet you didn’t think you were joining Online Abusers Anonymous posing as ‘Daily Sceptic’ now did you? Says a great deal about the mindset and quality of people who visit this site doesn’t it?
Agreed. “…. abuse will be removed and may lead to a permanent ban.”
Not somewhere Clarkson should post – at least I hope not.
Clearly he already was dropped – on his head.
He never should have apologised, it just feeds the beast.
He should never have written it in the first place.
Take a look at what it says under the comment box above:
“…. abuse will be removed and may lead to a permanent ban.”
Clarkson’s “excrement” comment was abuse and abusive which makes him an abuser.
“Freedom of speech and freedom from abuse.”
It makes me sad when schoolchildren and adults self-harm and commit suicide because people engage in online abuse.
What makes Clarkson an exception?
[Hint: absolutely nothing. It was abusive.]
