Airshow that was Cancelled for Three Years “Due to Covid” Now Cancelled Permanently “Due to Climate Change”

The Sunderland Airshow has been cancelled indefinitely as the council which organises it cites worries about climate change and says it wants to make the city “carbon neutral”. BBC News has the story.

The popular event, which attracted hundreds of thousands of spectators to Roker, was last held in 2019.

Subsequent dates were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Council leader Graeme Miller said the city would host other events, including the World Triathlon Championship next year.

He said residents wanted “to see new and different events” which the council hoped would “inspire more people to become physically active”.

A council spokeswoman said: “In light of the new approach to events and the council’s ambitions to be carbon neutral by 2030 and the city’s to be carbon neutral by 2040, the council has confirmed it has no plans to run the Sunderland Airshow in the future.”

It’s the latest sign of pandemic measures morphing seamlessly into climate ones as one ‘emergency’ excuse for banning things human beings like to do but which are supposedly catastrophically harmful shifts effortlessly to another.

By that token of political posturing, do think if we invoke “Climate Change”, Putin will hold off pressing the “nuke” button?

This is not an issue as I’m sure that the local authority in Sunderland have declared themselves to be a nuclear free zone

Carbon is a so-called chemical element and creating carbon is well beyond humanity’s means. People with an Oh well, I really mean carbon dixoide but everyone knows that and I’m seriously too lazy/ busy to pronounce soo many syllables! attitude are very likely not exactly ideally suited to running anything where attention to detail or even just ordinary thoroughness could be helpful. There are many things which are much more cumbersome than saying dioxide and they’ll certaintly also be too lazy/ mock-busy to do them.

Military air shows are fine though especially when trying to sell stuff to allies who share our values like Ukraine or Saudi Arabia

Let me see: Going by the event held in 2019 the three day Sunderland Air Show generally involves less than 50 aircraft, the majority of which are small fighter or trainer sized, nearly all domestically based (the exception being a Swiss Air Force parachute team), and up in the air for relatively short times and distances. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/family-kids-news/sunderland-international-airshow-planes-lineup-13279927 The World Triathlon Championship involves around 250 competitors (split into different categories) from all over the world taking part in a series of 9 races which are themselves spread out across the entire planet; Here is the list of the cities hosting this year’s series: Hamburg (used twice), Abu Dhabi (used twice), Yokohama, Leeds, Montreal, Cagliari, Bermuda. https://www.triathlon.org/ It’s as if someone looked at a globe and tried to figure out some of the most widely separated points. And, in spite of the very energetic nature of the sporting event itself I’m guessing that the hundreds of participants (never mind the no doubt equally large admin, support and media teams) are not actually running, swimming or cycling the multiple thousands of miles between these cities. A big thank you to Sunderland Council for proving that if nothing else the Climate Change / Net… Read more »

Ah yes, I forgot about the Great Air Show Smog disaster of 2019 when visibility in Sunderland was reduced to less than a foot, hundreds died in car and other accidents, and causing at least 93.5% of the city’s population to inevitably succumb to lung cancer (many thanks to Imperial College for modelling forecast)… 🙂

World Triathlon championships will heavily use the internet/cloud. It’s well known that manufacturing and powering/cooling server farms the size of small towns is carbon neutral because it’s achieved using unicorn dung and unicorn farts.

But these councillors should realise that human beings (as all animals) need to metabolise more when they are active (i.e. running). That physiology means that every competitor will use up more precious oxygen and breathe out much more of that deadly carbon dioxide. They will then wish to cancel all triathlon and marathon events because of climate change.
Alternatively, we could tell these councillors that all life forms are carbon based. That increased CO2 is used by plants to grow better (more food) and produce oxygen (quite useful) but they probably won’t understand because they have been deluded by the Net Zero cult.

What a marvellous boost to the economy of Sunderland and the North East.

Ah well, the Council will be carbon neutral by 2030. I wonder if even one of these dozy, stupid, lazy idiots could explain “carbon neutral.”

Production of the electric mini is being transferred from Oxford to China …. because the astronomical cost of energy (and probably unreliability of supply) makes it a sensible decision.

China will produce the cars using coal-generated energy.

I wonder if Sunderland Council will want to posture over Net Zero if Nissan decide to shift their production to China?

Somehow I doubt it. They’ll scream blue murder, blame the Tories and demand the jobs “be saved”.

According to the phony planet savers, every human activity causes “climate change”. This means that every human activity can be targeted. First the obvious ones like how much energy we use, how much we drive or fly in planes, how much beef we can eat (if any) and then it will expand into every walk of life and absolutely everything we do. Soon we will have activists lay in front of our cars as we try to head of to work. We will have them chuck items out of our shopping trolleys. We will see them harass everyone and his dog in this relentless crusade against modern civilisation as we know it, where nothing we do is acceptable. When even GB news presenters talk of the “Climate Emergency”, is it any wonder that so many brainwashed dreamers feel this need to lay down in the street or throw cans of soup at paintings? The UK does more than any other country as regards the political agenda of climate. We have the “Climate Change Act” that no other country has. We passed NET ZERO, which is estimated to be going to cost one and a half trillion, which was never scrutinised… Read more »

Virtue signalling nonsense. It’s been left to local councils whether or not to declare a “climate emergency” and if they do they receive funds to “help”. This is part of that. “See how serious we are? Give us some more cash please Westminster.”

Our local council has also declared thermageddon. To demonstrate this they’ve taken away all their gardners petrol driven mowers and blowers and cutters etc and replaced them with electric ones. The gardners now regularly disappear for a few hours to recharge whereas before they worked all day, and of course in doing so they’re using diesel in big trucks to get to and from base.

Politicians. What a sad sorry bunch of self serving talentless oafs they are.
