Is it Time For the Pro-Lockdown Fanatics to Fall to their Knees and Beg For Forgiveness?
Camilla Tominey, an Associate Editor of the Telegraph, was one of the few mainstream journalists who warned that the cost of lockdowns might outweigh the benefits – and was duly rounded on by her more ’compassionate’ colleagues and accused of putting profits before people. In today’s paper, she asks if it’s time for the lockdown zealots to apologise to the sceptics, given that we’ve been proved right.
When journalists like me… warned that the lockdown cure might be worse than the disease, we were accused of being mercenary murderers intent on prioritising the economy ahead of saving lives.
Scientists who dared to question the severity of the restrictions were, as Lord Sumption put it at the time, “persecuted like Galileo”. Falsely branded “Covid deniers” simply for questioning some of the “science” that was slavishly followed, they were subjected to appalling online abuse by a bunch of armchair experts who claimed to know better.
Professor Robert Dingwall faced career “cancellation” for refusing to drink the zero-Covid Kool-Aid, as did the likes of Professor Carl Heneghan, Professor Sunetra Gupta and leading oncologist Professor Karol Sikora.
Yet now we learn that they were right to raise their concerns in the face of pseudo-socialist SAGE groupthink.
Official data now suggests that the effects of lockdown may be killing more people than are currently dying of Covid.
An analysis by the Daily Telegraph’s brilliant science editor Sarah Knapton (another figure who was pilloried for questioning the pro-lockdown orthodoxy) has found that about 1,000 more people than usual are dying each week from conditions other than coronavirus.
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Tuesday showed that excess deaths are 14.4% higher than the five-year average, equating to 1,350 more deaths than usual in the week ending August 5. Although 469 deaths were linked to Covid, the remaining 881 have not been explained. Since the start of June, the ONS has recorded almost 10,000 more deaths than the five-year average – about 1,086 a week – none of them linked to coronavirus. This figure is more than three times the number of people who died because of Covid over the same period – 2,811.
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has asked for an investigation into the data amid concern that the deaths are linked to delays and deferment of treatment for conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
Worth reading in full – although it’s a pity Camilla doesn’t go further and allow for the possibility that the current spike in excess deaths may be partly caused by vaccine injuries. She could have made the point that those raising the alarm about the mRNA Covid vaccines should not be cast as beyond the pale and banned from social media platforms, as many lockdown sceptics were, but debated openly in the public square.
Stop Press: The highest-rated comment beneath Camilla’s piece, by Big Dude, reads as follows:
I hope history properly, and severely judges the excessive lockdowns, the manufactured panic, the false virtue signalling, the Health Sec who abandoned our health, the snitchy curtain twitching busy body neighbours, the petty pumped up local officials who shut country parks, those who predicted there would be mass death from Bournemouth beaches, the police forces assuming powers of dictators, the mask lovers, the BBC, the Guardian, James O’Brien, the scientists and medics who abandoned science but in some cases got even more letters after their names, yes you, Whitty, Vallance, Michie, Ferguson, the preening, pompous preposterous leaders, Starmer, that Scottish woman, the increasingly ridiculous heads of Canada and NZ.
Perhaps one day, some of them may even apologise, and if not, should they remain in the public eye, they should be respectfully reminded at every opportunity what they have done.
Stop Press 2: Prof Robert Dingwall says lockdowns are to blame for the recent rise in excess deaths.
Stop Press 3: A reader has sent in this quote from Alexander Hamilton. When it comes to a public apology, the lockdown sceptics probably shouldn’t hold their breath.
To retract an error even in the beginning is no easy task. Perseverance confirms us in it and rivets the difficulty; but in a public station, to have been in an error, and to have persisted in it, when it is detected, ruins both reputation and fortune. To this we may add that disappointment and opposition inflame the minds of men and attach them still more to their mistakes.

It is time for the lockdown loonies to appear in Court charged with crimes against Humanity, alongside the climate change misanthropists.
Those climate change loonies, man…If they could be first onboard a rocket on a one-way mission to colonise Mars, that’d surely be a win-win for everybody. Even all the cows would breathe a huge sigh of relief! Actually, if there’s room, blast all of the Covid traitors and zealots who welcomed and supported the medical apartheid and discrimination of their fellow citizens, who encouraged hate campaigns against us like the virtue-signalling Nazis they absolutely were/are. Blast them all to Mars because this planet and the population who are compassionate and rational people in the main would surely benefit no end by getting rid of the nasty, spiteful buggers once and for all. No forgiveness from me at any rate. All we ( like, every damn country bar a handful ) ever had to do is follow the common sense approach that Sweden took but no, the repercussions are still being felt even now….and they *still* cannot come out and acknowledge the damage lockdowns have done and vow to never bring them in again. These people do not deserve to share this planet with decent folk who actually give a damn about their fellow humans, they are a scourge on civilizations… Read more »
Indeed, they should be begging for mercy!
What makes you think Courts will not side with the lockdown loonies? There is a huge chunk of the establishment with a vested interest in forcing what happened down the memory hole. And they are backed by a great many within broader society, the ones who clapped for the sainted NHS & shouted at people who refused to wear the preposterous masks.
The Telegraph, specifically Paul Nuki & their Global Health Team, have been among the worst catastrophists.
Global Health Security Team to give them their full, Stalinist-sounding title! The Telegraph was mad to take grant money from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. And there’s no sign of anyone buying the paper, even though its been up for sale for well over a year. I keep hoping for a US conservative or libertarian unconnected with Soros or the WEF to buy it. I wouldn’t trust a British ‘conservative’ not to be a leftist up to their elbows in deals with authoritarian globalist organisations and China.
DT up for sale. That may account for the desperate three months free, cancel anytime deals they are offering. Is this to flatter the number of its reader base to a potential buyer? Personally they couldn’t give me subscription to this rag free for life. Like the Tory party they support they have lost all semblance of honesty and principle.
Global Health Security, isn’t that the project that The BMGF funded at the DT?
Yes.
The rampant pro-lockdown and pro-vaccine individuals won’t be so meek as to apologise. They’ll say that their actions were understandable and won’t be sorry.
They’ll respond differently — they’re fanatics. Their response will be fanatical. They’ll turn their fanatic rage to those who duped them.
At this point in time authorities worldwide are desperately trying to control the direction that this fanaticism flows — but it won’t work — truth will out, and when it does it won’t be pretty.
There was never a ‘might’. Never. And the comment posted in the stop press underlines a bigger problem, in fact the problem – “they should be respectfully reminded at every opportunity what they have done.”. Respect should be earned, not given. The masses are paying far too much respect to people solely on the basis of their perceived authority These morons deserve no respect, quite the opposite, they need to be held to account for their crimes; crimes including murder (yes, I believe it’s murder, not manslaughter).
Murder? No – genocide.
I suggest a ‘Covidian tax’ by which they can contribute to paying back the exorbitant cost of their folly. ‘You broke it, you pay for it’ as they say.
The tax could be based on virtue-signalling social media posts, and data mining the nhs database and bank statements for making use of masks, lft’s and pcr’s taken. An extra 5% levy for anyone in media or tv who called for it.
The Pro-Lockdown Fanatics will not apologise because they are still the majority. Even the people suffering and complaining the most about the cost of living crisis and crumbling NHS still can’t connect the dots that it’s all mainly due to lockdowns which they were demanding.
It’s the vax Toby not the Lockdowns
Actuarial evidence broken down by age group showing temporal overlap with jab mandates: https://thevigilantfox.substack.com/p/smoking-gun-new-actuarial-report
*sigh*
Let’s start with the lockdowns and then move onto the “vaccines”. I think one follows from the other. Underlying it all is the need to accept that covid was not an emergency.
I’m afraid I have to disagree.
The deaths are being blamed on lockdowns precisely to prevent the truth about the jabs coming out.
Its misdirection and they are about to kill off or injure a bunch more people this September.
We know what happens when they start their round of jabs, people get sick with Covid mark x, media panics, then they start forcing down the age categories until they get to the kids.
This is not a victory in my view.
You may have a point. However I think there are definite signs that people recognise the lockdowns were a mistake, and I don’t think all of those people are “in on” some kind of vaccine death cover-up (though some probably are).
I try to remain calm but vigilant about the future and not let myself get too carried away one way or the other – that keeps me on a even keel. Maybe I’m half asleep!
I will certainly not consider the battle truly won unless and until the mass vaxxing is recognised as having been terribly wrong, immoral, harmful, probably criminal. I don’t expect to live to see that day.
“I don’t think all of those people are “in on” some kind of vaccine death cover-up”
Neither do I. Indeed the sales technique of drumming in the mantra “safe and effective” along with the lies that adverse events are “rare,” have had a hypnotic effect on many people.
Once you go ahead and get a needle stuck into yourself, you don’t want to believe you were duped, especially if it means the loony anti vaxxers/ vax hesitants were right and you were the fool.
You don’t need to be a high up in big Pharma to want to look everywhere EXCEPT the most obvious thing right in front of your face.
I don’t know, I do think this will eventually become commonly understood in our lifetimes. It may take a decade and the coming depression to do it, but I think it will come out.
Well, lets hope so. The snag is that once an organisation’s reputation is in the trash, it will take a long time to recover, along with the loss of worthwhile products If that happens, we’ll all be worse off for a while.
Disappointing that Lord Sumption writes Vax sceptics off as ‘silly’ in his interview with Fraser Nelson in this week’s Spectator TV. I rely on him for common sense but he has bought into the myth – it’s certainly powerful.
That is disappointing.
I hope that he at least is on the right side when it comes to mandating them.
This Holocaust survivor gets it:

Big Dude is a legend.
Yep, he totally broke the internet with that comment.
One day some of them might apologise?
Seems unlikely. They definitely killed tens of thousands by clearing the hospitals in March 2020, evidenced by the Amnesty report: ‘As If Expendable’
How many apologies for that so far?
They made these decisions because they are morally and intellectually superior, and although they got it wrong, that doesn’t change that they are morally and intellectually superior.
Apologies will never be heard. Justice will never be done, because in the end the role of the intellectual elite is to rule over us, not to get things right.
“Is it Time For the Pro-Lockdown Fanatics to Fall to their Knees and Beg For Forgiveness?”
There is a sweet little aphorism to which quite a few on here subscribe –
Never forgive, never forget.
I think that says all that is required on this subject.
How can we forgive?
You can only forgive if those who transgressed against you express their contrition. And that will never be forthcoming. Instead, they are strengthening their ability to do it again in the future.
Alex Thomson is a frequent commenter & his response was also excellent: Some questions the Telegraph might like to put to the Government and demand that the official enquiry addresses: 1) Why did the Government and Sage abandon the 2011 Pandemic Preparedness Plan and what analysis persuaded them to do so and who prepared that analysis? 2) Given the pictures of people dropping dead in the streets of Wuhan, why were Lockdowns (the Wuhan response) persisted with even when it became apparent that those images/ videos were faked? What investigation was launched into why these videos were being broadcast on social and mainstream media and by whom? 3) Why, given the data from China, Italy and the Diamond Princess, did Government ministers including Michael Gove and Matt Hancock repeatedly insist that “we are all at risk” when it was clear that there was extreme age risk stratification to this disease? 4) Why was the official definition of a Covid death set at within 28 days of a positive test? What work was done to show the comparable impact of that definition on say, flu deaths or pneumonia deaths? What gave the Government comfort that this was the optimal definition and… Read more »
A few more:
(23) Why was the face-covering nonsense allowed to continue after Susan Michie openly admitted that it was never about COVID but that she had seen many people wearing face coverings in Japan and came to believe they would be some sort of miracle cure against harmful germs in general?
(24) More generally, what procedures are in place to stop people suffering from mysophobia to enter public health positions?
(25) Why was “professor pantsdown” (Ferguson) allowed to make a comeback with his ridiculous predictions despite his own behaviour had clearly demonstrated that he didn’t believe in them himself?
(26) Why were avid teetotalers like Drakford or the Scottish lady with the impossible name (I’m a bit dyslectic and can’t make sense of certain combinations of letters) allowed to come up with all kinds of utterly bizarre restrictions for the hospitality industry in the name of COVID prevention without anyone ever questioning if they were actually meant to prevent COVID and not punish the hospitality industy for selling alcoholic drinks?
(27) Why were school children forced to undergo physically harmful procedures without any purpose just because the teacher’s unions insisted on them?
Being on their knees might be appropriate for the occasion. Forgiveness, not so much.
I would love to see them fall to their knees and beg forgiveness, that’s the least they should do, but I fear their arrogance, narcissism, total lack of conscience will prevent this.
Agree with every word apart from one – ‘respectfully’.
I can do without apology. There are many different motives for what has been inflicted on us. Among ordinary people, our families and friends, the main thing is that gullible people, who trust authority, have been frightened out of their wits. They deserve whole-hearted pity. It may be impossible for them to accept it: so be it. They are now bent out of shape trying to rationalise their behaviour, and put something in place to fill the void in themselves: climate, economic collapse, war, pestilence, woke.. .
They will, I think double down. The void and the damage is too unbearable.
It will come in wave after wave, and harm piled upon harm. It’s human nature.
“They deserve whole-hearted pity.”
Maybe. I blow hot and cold on this one. I’ve always been a bit of a softie but my patience has worn thin. The sheeple who went along with this crap are adults like you and I. They made their choice. Sure, the government propaganda campaign was reprehensible, IMO treasonous and should be illegal, but life presents all kinds of stuff and the essence of being an adult is that you make choices and live with the consequences. People who went along with covid nonsense were happy to see MY life restricted and MY choices vilified, and worse. I’m out of sympathy, at least for today.
My 80 year old dad finally said no more jabs.
Hes been really lucky so far, not even a sore arm,
He got on side after worrying reports he read on the Epoch times.
“gullible people, who trust authority, have been frightened out of their wits.”
I have an old friend who fits this description. After 2 years of the evil campaign against us, she is now suffering from anxiety and depression and is on the happy pills. She’s completely lost confidence and is a shadow of her former self. She simply hasn’t got the will to pull herself out of it and I doubt if she ever will. When they ramp up the fear again in the autumn, she will still go along with it and I fully expect her to get a booster. It’s so sad.
My nightmare :-
Compulsory mRNA jabs in order to avoid lockdowns.
Don’t think they won’t try it.
Just listen to Schwab…
Does anyone know if Sweden is experiencing a similar percentage of excess deaths?
As far as I know, the vax numbers are similar. If excess mortality matches lockdown loony countries – there must be an alternative explanation?
As someone who was literally yelling at the TV ‘Arrest him! Arrest him!’ as Johnson was announcing the lockdowns, I took plenty of flak. I’ve never obeyed the rules, never covered my face under any circumstances and, before the mask mandates, took great pleasure in chatting to people normally in supermarkets. Old ladies loved me, because I would get things they needed off the upper supermarket shelves, because everyone else was scared to go near each other. Even people who were pro-distancing when I met up with them were doing things like shake my hand when we met, because I made such an effort to smile, be charming and behave ‘normally-normally’ as opposed to ‘new-normally’. I’m incredibly shy and not someone who seeks conflict, so the strain I felt was massive every time I went out, especially after the mask mandates began when I was riding the train to London on a couple of trips up there for work. When I was in beautiful Kraków in Poland many years ago, I did a tour of the old Jewish Quarter, decimated by the Germans, and of other areas linked to the Soviet occupation. The photos of the streets of Kraków from… Read more »
Well said, it was the courage and knowledge of the people you name which enabled us to keep going. It was morally wrong from the start and your knowledge enabled us to show that it was scientifically wrong too. It didn’t save us from being cancelled and abused of course-but at least we could sleep in our beds at night.
Neil Oliver’s monologue on his GB News yesterday was his best yet and well worth watching.
It’s about time the “Scientists,” PsyOps Unit and Government Ministers, who destroyed the economy and millions of lives with the Scamdemic, resigned. Along with members of the MSM who demanded even tougher restrictions and demonised anyone who refused to follow the narrative.
What about the elephant in the room???
Ok, lockdowns, as we warned here and on the pod, have killed far more than they ever saved. I still think they didn’t save one covid death. Just cuased untold damage to almost everything we hold dear.
Therefore I’m going to target one particular point in Tominey’s article – Lord Sumption. I’m going to investigate his claims (which I agree in) and that of ‘FullFact’ and the scientific papers they used to disregard his claims. Already what I’ve found is staggering. Get ready for a good next episode in the pod guys!

“Official data now suggests that the effects of lockdown may be killing more people than are currently dying of Covid.”
Literally ANYTHING but the obvious. We must NEVER let them off the hook.
We know, they know we know, we know they know we know!
Cowardice was responsible for the first UK lockdown, cowardice before the threats of the teaching unions, who frogmarched Boris into reversing the sensible policy of herd immunity and replacing it with lockdown. On 18-Mar-20, Boris caved in to NEU threats of unilateral school closures. This was the decisive step. Parents cannot go to work if their kids are off school. On 04-Jan-21 the same thing happened again. The NEU held a zoom meeting with 400,000 of its members, at which the decision was taken not to return to work after the Christmas holidays. The government caved in again and declared lockdown 3, which lasted 6 months. The entire panics, both times, were NEU-driven.
I share the appetite for retribution. Let’s get the retribution right, though: repeal the 1906 Trades Disputes Act as it applies to the public sector. No more with-impunity public sector strikes. If militant Mick wants to lead the train drivers out, brother, the teachers, the postal workers,… let him face damages for inducing breach of contract.
That’s a very sensible proposition: Trade unions exist to enable workers to negotiate with their capitalist employers on equal footing. But a state which decrees mandatory Sars-CoV2 testing for pupils for the supposed benefit of teachers is most certainly not exploiting its employees. More the people who are forced to interact with them.
That’s – by the way – how things used to be organized in Germany: Everybody working for the state (and this included schools, trains, utility companies and the post) was a so-called Beamter who had a job for live (and a very decent pension) and an obligation to serve in return. That was before everything went neoliberal and it was decreed that the only way to get people to work would be the constant threat of redundancy (and that everything the state does which actually makes money must be privatized so that someone else gets it).
What If COVID-23 happens with an Infection Fatality Rate of 5% ?
Would we employ our COVID-19 policies, which were “so successful” ?
Even if more effective policies were adopted the credibility of our leaders and institutions is so badly tarnished that public compliance can no longer be relied on.
I doubt I will ever forgive those that prevented us from visiting mum in hospital in the last two weeks. She died alone and scared in hospital. This is barbaric and inhumane. I’ve never been a violent man but this tips me over the edge if I ever meet whoever implemented this irrational mandate.
