Denmark Ends Vaccination For Under-50s as it Shifts to Treating Covid Like Flu
Denmark’s policy towards vaccination in the autumn of 2022 will focus on the over-50s. The under-50s will only get a booster if a doctor recommends it. With respect to pregnant women getting vaccinated a decision has yet to be made. The policy is available in English here; below I have printed some selected highlights.

As regards people who’ve had a first or second dose, there’s some gentle persuasion to continue with additional doses but this is primarily targeted at the over-40s and people with pre-existing health issues.
Children will not be vaccinated except with the specific approval of a doctor.

This guidance is a long way from the coercive tone taken by governments around the world over the past 18 months. The Danes explain that their policy reflects their belief that Covid has become a seasonal problem like influenza and that it represents a mild condition for most people.
Based on previous experience, we expect COVID-19 to be a seasonal disease. This means that the disease most likely flares up in fall and winter, just as we know it from, for example, influenza.
It is perhaps worth just looking at the Danish experience of Covid since the vaccination programme started back in December 2020. Figure 1 plots the reported infection rate in Denmark and the U.K. on the left hand axis and shows vaccination take-up on the right hand axis. Having had one of the lowest rates of infection right through 2020, post vaccination Denmark’s reported infection rate peaked at 2.5 times the U.K. rate during the early months of 2022 despite 85% of the population being vaccinated. The Danes appear to have adopted a pragmatic approach in the face of the vaccination’s failure to prevent infection and transmission.

Thank heavens for the Scandinavians! The Swedes did a good job of resisting the temptation to rush, lemming like, into the first lockdown, thus providing a decent real-world counterargument to the lockdown zealots.
The Danes were among the first to notice the link between the vaccination and blood clots and suspend the AstraZeneca vaccine. They also produced just about the only peer-reviewed analysis on the effectiveness of masks and discovered no statistically significant benefit. They were the first to lift lockdown in April 2020, the first to declare Covid no longer a critical threat to society in August 2021 and the first to end all restrictions (despite record reported infections) in January 2022. There was the little local difficulty when they wiped out their entire mink farm industry in November 2020, but in general they seem to have done a pretty good job.
I rather expect this approach to be followed by many other countries, indeed it may already have quietly been adopted fairly broadly, just that no-one has yet announced it.
Finally, one thought strikes me. We now have the situation where China is hoist with its own petard, stuck in a never-ending sequence of lockdowns, its disastrous flagship policy. Meanwhile, the USA is stuck with its disastrous vaccination policy with borders closed to the unvaccinated. What happens if an under-50-year-old unvaccinated Dane wants to travel to the USA, would a Danish doctor now decide this constitutes a medical justification to vaccinate the individual? Interesting times.

It looks good, but it still raises questions. Why should people who have remained unvaccinated get a vaxx which, in all likelihood, will still be based on the long-gone original Wuhan virus? It was stated multiple times over the winter 21/22 that *everyone* would become infected with omicron. So if we assume that virtually all unvaxxed have now been infected at least once, therefore having natural antibodies, what added benefit could being vaxxed possibly have? We know that infection-based immunity is more robust and longer-lasting, we also know that vaxx-based immunity provides only S antibodies and seems to actually impair formation of the broader-based N antibodies that the unvaxxed have no problem forming. Urging the unvaxxed to still get vaxxed makes no sense from a health perspective and smacks more of trying to a) get rid of excess doses of poison and b) get rid of any control group. The other troubling question it raises is will we now see all of Europe employ the despicable tactics of Italy and France and seek to exclude the over 50s who do not get their repeat dose of poison from public venues? Germany is already making plans to openly discriminate against non-recently… Read more »
Agree. It seems to me reminiscent of 19th century scientists and rationalists who still paid lip service to the existence of a god because it was too far out of the social norm to be atheistic.
Not recommending covid jabs for the unjabbed is entirely rational and they know it, but considered too “radical” to be a feasible official position.
I am quite concerned they will bring back the apartheid app. A banner running across the news this morning was saying that businesses want the corona app to be enshrined in permanent law. What an absolute load of sh&te. Businesses were complaining about it last year – it meant excluding customers, which they didn’t want to do, it meant having to deal with angry people, which they didn’t want, it meant extra work for staff which they couldn’t really spare, if it had been extended to the work place it would have meant having employees work from home, which wouldn’t work out well for shops and restaurants and would probably have led to a change in the strict dismissal laws (not in and of itself something I’m against, but not like this). So they are already framing the narrative, claiming that people *want* this carp. The fact that no public authority or government official in Europe (home of “Never Forget”) said a word about the outrageously discriminatory nature of making a special category of treatment for over 50s is highly disturbing. As for not being too radical – I found a preview paper the other day discussing how continued vaxxing… Read more »
Yes its all going to start back up isn’t it? You can see they can’t wait to reinstate that divisive bollocks, trample all over our fundamental rights and continue to avoid and ignore any data which don’t fit with their narrative. The eternal optimist in me was naive enough to think that Kuipers might have been an improvement on the detestable De Jonge because at least he was a medically trained doctor. Well given the extent by which the medical profession has let us down and joined in with enabling the propaganda ( “evidence-based practice/medicine? What is this heresy of which you speak?” ) and that Kuipers is more politician than doctor now, I couldn’t be more wrong. So here we are once again and the fact that I may as well look up my comments grumbling about the state of play from last winter or the winter before, cut and paste them here in a few months time, just makes me depressed tbh. Its like nothing has changed. Data is collected, science experiments are being conducted, articles are written and it all just continues to be deliberately ignored as long as it’s not pro-narrative. I honestly think the only… Read more »
Netherlands is a puzzle to me. I was in and out of Amsterdam this June from Cape Town and London. Fax/booster/test requirements were still in place to enter the Netherlands but neither my wife or myself were ever asked anything covid related. Has officialdom “on the ground” given up on their politicians? We had a very pleasant time, nobody spoke of covid, a few masks about mainly worn by tourists. Wishing you a winter the same as ours, herd immunity has taken care of covid so well case/death numbers are no longer reported.
As I’ve mentioned previously, I am under no doubt that there are those who want to make these draconian state powers permanent and will continue to push for them. To expect anything else would be delusional.
However, what I’m not sure about is whether they’ll be able to pull off a return of any substantive measures. I’m not sure they won’t but I’m not sure they will because for the most part people just don’t want them.
I suspect there is a level of scepticism now that didn’t exist and when we were in the midst of the corona hysteria. Again, I wouldn’t bet my life on it, but it seems that way.
In short, I’m not terribly optimistic about it, but not terrible pessimistic either because on balance I think it’s slightly more likely that we’re done with all the nonsense than a return of any major measures.
Fingers crossed.
I think you’re probably right. We might see masks on public transport this winter, maybe shops. While not as bad as a lockdown, that would be a big downer for me, not because I would wear one but because I just f**ing hate seeing people in them. Even the small number of maskers still around now put me in a bad mood.
The continuing wearing of masks by the stupid is a long lasting memorial to the idiocy of our Government. Stay safe!
Walking around my small west country town yesterday I saw a man – I would guess aged about 50-60 wearing a mask …… in the hot sun (90 deg F).
Most people have ditched them here now.
The guidance for the unvaccinated to get vaccinated at this point is ridiculous. Very few people today are Covid naive, and the overwhelming majority have natural immunity to Covid. Will it stop every variant from infecting you? No, but it will greatly reduce the chance of severe disease and in a much better fashion than any man-made vaccination. I would just continue to ignore the “experts.”
Thanks for an interesting article. What the Danish government is now saying does indeed suggest that common sense is slowly returning. Emphasis on slowly, though, given that the Danes are nonetheless recommending that the healthy unvaxxed should still get their first two doses in the autumn. That doesn’t make any scientific sense at all in light of everything we now know about both covid itself and the vaxxes, does it?
This does make me laugh though. I mean, which person who has survived the more pathogenic variants and lives to tell the tale is now going to do a full 180 and decide to take their first shot? It beggars belief the extent which governments will go to in order to undermine the publics’ intelligence and use whatever manipulation necessary to get a needle in every arm. They are pathetic in their desperation they really are and continue to treat us like half-wits who only made it to this point in our lifespans through sheer chance. Where would any of us be now without the governments and advisors telling us what is best for our health? God forbid a person should show some initiative and have the audacity to do their own risk-benefit assessment for anything health-related! Taking ownership of one’s own health and wellbeing…now that’s just reckless crazy talk! Pff..
I don’t think I’ll get a needle of anything in my arm ever again given what I now know and what I’ve seen.
I don’t think I’ll get a needle of anything in my arm ever again given what I now know and what I’ve seen.
Me too, and my children. In fact, I’m tempted to write them an apology letter for letting them have their standard childhood vaccinations, for when they’re old enough to understand.
I won’t even allow a needle into my cat. Paracetamol and aspirin are now the only allopathic medicines I trust!
I know right? Its crazy that its come to this. And especially as parents, we will question and be suspicious of anything ( at least vaccine related ) coming out of Big Pharma going forward. But as TJN states below, I am absolutely questioning everything and seeing it in a new light regarding all of the previous vaccines my kid has had in the regular schedule. They just keep adding to the damn thing every flaming year. We left the UK several years back, Hep B or flu shots weren’t in the schedule then, but they are now, at least over here. Not happening, not necessary.
Parents need to wake TFU and the apathy needs to stop.
Nice to hear from you CG.
Nice to be back! Currently in the process of moving abroad; very stressful and complicated business!
I wonder why the Danes are still fairly sensible, whilst the Germans are full-on loonies. Is it a long-term consequence of the war and a change in national character?
Some pertinent research regarding boosters from Israel – they should know!

I can remember when I got covid back in March reading in the iNews that unvaccinated people would get both seriously ill and be infectious for longer. So does the iNews article count as misinformation & links to it removed by fact checkers? My wife & I have both observed that people we know who are triple vaccinated have generally been infectious for longer & in some (but not all) cases had more persistant symptoms. Interesting to see the infection side at least born out by research.
How do you know you had “covid”?
I take your point. Let’s say my LFT showed positive for a week. Although I am sceptical about many overblown claims, I am prepared to accept that the positive test was indicative of covid (omicron most likely).
Just curious – none of my business really – but why test? What did you do differently as a result? I have been unwell a couple of times this year – once I felt like crap for a week and the last thing on my mind was sticking things into me to find out something that doesn’t seem very important, something that we here have been arguing is not of great consequence. The second time was a mild sniffle and I was too busy getting on with normal life to worry about testing for something. We don’t keep tests in the house, never have done, never tested, never will.
A few reasons. 1. I am 68yrs old and although I keep pretty fit am in a higher risk catagory. 2. Knowing that I tested positive can help in managing symptoms. In this case by changing my use of supplements and resting for a few days. 3. Knowing that I tested positive also means that I have a good chance of natural immunity which actually is quite liberating. At the time it felt a bit like being let of jail. I was actually relieved that I tested positive and could get it done with, especially with the milder variant. I am aware that my immune system is unlikely to be as effective as when I was younger. Although omicron is relatively mild, it can be less so for elderly people. Amongst my triple vaccinated friends, one has been left with residual deafness in one ear. Another, experienced fever & hallucinations with post viral syndrome lasting a couple of months. A third who has previously recovered from cancer described her experience as “awful”. I would rather know what I am dealing by testing and then managing it my own way. If I was younger, maybe my approach would be different.
Fair enough. I would have thought that how you manage the symptoms wouldn’t change based on the test result – whatever it is you would do for a bad flu or bad cold or whatever is pretty much the same whether it’s “covid” or another cold or flu – same diet, supplements, medication. There’s no known specific treatment for “covid” – at least not ones that you can get from a pharmacy or doctor in the UK. I guess you might want to watch out for shortness of breath, maybe get an oximeter, but I am not sure I would want to go to hospital as I am not sure what they’d do for you other than make you wear a mask, give you crap food and make you feel miserable. I guess they can give you oxygen. I’m a hypochondriac and find the best way to manage illness, at least minor illnesses like colds and flu, is to do the time-honoured things and try not to overthink because I end up panicking and making things worse. You say having natural immunity is liberating but I am not sure you can rely on that. I suppose it is liberating to… Read more »
Yes, I totally agree. Under different circumstances, I would have thought mild flu, although the initial stomach upset was unexpected Whether or not it will make me more confident in the future, time will tell. Even when you’re aware of the madness, it’s hard not to be affected by it.
There is some talk now that repeated vaxxing and giving people pfaxlovid may be causing immune system tolerance of the spike protein – the very pathogen that has caused all the problems. I remember when the vaxx was first trialled, the actual trial was merely aimed at seeing whether it would reduce symptoms. They only started claiming it reduced transmission/infection when they saw how much of a money-earner it was and how it would pave the way for introduction of the apartheid app. The symptoms, such as fever, respiratory distress, etc. are immune system reactions to an alien substance in the body, the virus. Suppressing the symptoms appears to reduce severe illness – however, it looks as if it does not help the body rid itself of the virus, which may remain simmering away, with the spike protein doing its clotting/organ attacking thing. So while in the first instance symptom suppression might seem like a good thing, it could well be that it merely prolongs how long some people carry the virus (resulting in more likelihood of mutation and spread by people who, being vaxxed and symptomless, assume they are safe). I referred above to a study discussing IgG4, that… Read more »

‘Based on previous experience, we expect COVID-19 to be a seasonal disease. This means that the disease most likely flares up in fall and winter, just as we know it from, for example, influenza.’
It started off as a seasonal disease just like ‘flu although unlike ‘flu not serious across all age groups, and for most less serious then ‘flu.
But… thanks to the mRNA products CoVid has now become perennial and more serious in the vaccinated, particularly, third dose plus.
In addition there has been an increase in Summer Colds and ‘flu no doubt due to immune systems adversely affected by the mRNA agents.
So… a success story. Well done!
The choice of influenza as an example is interesting. Why not mention other respiratory illnesses caused by other coronaviruses? They are quite common, after all, hence the classic term used for them. Perhaps most punters are not worried about them enough, compared with ‘flu.
Are we allowed to compare Denmark to the rest of the world or are we still limited to comparing the Nordic/Scandinavian countries to each other?
‘We now have the situation where China is hoist with its own petard, stuck in a never-ending sequence of lockdowns, its disastrous flagship policy.’
That assumes that any of this is about attempting to control the spread of a virus though doesn’t it – do any of us still think that?
If Covid isn’t causing soaring deaths, is the jab to blame?

If we are using the Danes as an example of good Public Health Policy then we are still very much in trouble. It seems to me they want to act intelligently and go against the groupthink but then can quite bring themselves to swim upstream knowing that is the way out.
