Apologies for not posting this last night – slight technical problems in Iceland, where I’m currently on holiday.
In this week’s episode of London Calling, James and I talk about Iceland, where I’m enjoying the spectacular scenery and geological wonders but freaking out about how eye-wateringly expensive everything is. In addition, we discuss the shortcomings of the recent BBC documentary Unvaccinated, the death of Paul Ryder, whether or not the moon landings were faked, if dinosaurs were a hoax – James’s answer to those questions is “Yes” – the fact that the World Health Organisation is the favourite to win this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, who we’d give it to instead, the Conservative leadership election – which James is predictably uninterested in – and, in Culture Corner, Better Call Saul, The Offer and the Macmillan audio book of Dune, which is fantastic.

I listened to this today on my walk (Switzerland, very lovely, no signs of covid lunacy). .
Toby – you made the assumption that lots of people joined the Conservative party in 2018 because they loved Boris Johnson. My husband joined in 2018: this was because he HATED Boris Johnson and wanted to vote against him.
Turns out you have to be a member for 2 years to actually vote, so this was pointless at the time, but this time he can make his wishes felt. The choice he is presented with is akin to choosing which testicle he would like removed with a rusty knife, however.
Switzerland, which is not the best country (or “country”) in the world. Also (effectively) Nazi collaborators. Should I let it go?
