The Jubilee Celebrations are a Perfect Riposte to Britain’s ‘Anti-Racist’ Critics
Ex-Free Speech Union Director Inaya Folarin Iman has written a great piece for the Sunday Telegraph pointing out that the Jubilee celebrations give the lie to the claim that Britain is a deeply racist society in which non-white citizens are condemned to second class status. Here’s how it begins:
It has become fashionable, particularly amongst the cultural elite, to describe today’s Britain as a racist society. Indeed, only this week, comedian Stephen Fry claimed Britain was deluding itself about being a tolerant nation and that we shouldn’t think we’re better than America when it comes to racial prejudice.
But this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Few things better exemplify this than the exuberant, multicultural melting pot embodied by the Jubilee celebrations. Far from being riddled with racism, the Platinum Jubilee has demonstrated that Britain is a country where race is no longer a central feature of British national identity, and civic pride and participation are what truly count.
It is not true that Britain is an exclusive project, in which some racial groups are inherently squeezed out. Glance briefly through the gathering crowds at the celebrations and you will find British people from all colours, cultures, and creeds, sharing in these joyous events, often adding their own cultural embellishments to it, too.
And not just British people, people flock from all over the world to partake in the unique and rich traditions that Britain offers. This is what fosters a sense of belonging and home, that which reminds us of the importance of our British citizenship, a status that transcends racial, cultural and gender divides.
The elite says that, despite the progress we’ve been on, racism is embedded into society. This claim fosters a sense of alienation and resentment and prevents us from being able to appreciate how good we genuinely have it and how much we support one another through the challenging times.
But it is difficult to cultivate this sense of gratitude and perspective with the level of historical denigration that has become all too familiar nowadays. Increasingly, a one-sided view of the past is promoted, one that sees British history as fundamentally racist, colonial, and sexist, and that the only adequate response to this is to untether us from the past by creating a Year Zero.
But this can never truly be done, as our past is who we are, and so, attempts to do so only end up depriving us of our cultural inheritance and disorienting us in the world.

100% agree Toby, but nice words won’t win here.
We’re in a full blown war for the character of our nation. They’ve come after our kids, our language, our history, our faith.
It’s a battle where we can’t take a backward step and must recognise our enemy, hidden in plain sight: government; media: universities; large corporate businesses and activists.
There are more of us than them and they are terrified we’ll realise it.
I agree but at its root that is not really a racial problem. It is a globalist strategy to reduce nation state coherence.
A degree of cultural variance is a good thing. But it’s being weaponised largely by powerful, dangerous and selfish people.
We are indeed in a war being waged against us for not just the character of our nation, but the enslavement of us all. The war is being waged against us by the state. Neil Oliver’s monologue is inciteful & thought provoking as ever.

The problem is that we are being forced into a ridiculous denial, namely that we are not racially prejudiced.
We are. We all are. Not just “whites”. All of us.To suggest otherwise is to deny human nature. Which is of course at the heart of so many left wing crusades. (Or to try to eradicate human nature.)
HOWEVER, we can be prejudiced in many different ways as we all are but have the presence of mind for the most part not to act on it. IWhuch n most cases we don’t because we realise not doing so is the decent thing to do.
Trying to deny our prejudices, racial or of any other type, is losing battle because in most cases its just not true and the truth always prevails.
Instead of denying our prejudices we should accept we have them and admit to ourselves and others that what we do is our best not to act on them.
And in that score, I would say we do pretty well in Britain. Better than in most places, I would bet.
The bread and circus ploy goes down well to distract the masses from the appalling political circus acts, led of course by the clown-in-chief. It says absolutely nothing about the state of racism in this country! I do however agree that this country is still one of the least racist in the world, despite the efforts of BLM etc to foster racism.
When the whole BLM thing came to prominence I asked a black friend if it was bad. He didn’t think so and stated the last time he experienced racism was a single incident more than 10 years ago. But … he was a professional, middle class, mature man. Maybe it’s different for others. He did experience more racial fear further back as a young man but considered that fear of the unknown was pretty extinct now.
There will always be some racism, it’s part of the human condition, every colour and creed is subject to it. But we were given brains and the ability to think logically, we need to override it. Unfortunately, I feel the world is moving away from logic and science.
Need to override what? Those intent on destroying our cultures are defining terms like racism. I reject the natural ethnocentrism the overwhelming majority of people embrace is racist. Literally 90% of the world views multiculturalism as cultural death. Only white European nations have done this, and in those cultures it is a tiny powerful minority who do so. The majority dislike rapid cultural change caused by foreign immigration.
Mixing cultures causes strife. Why bother? Africa is massive and wealthy. Africans belong there not in Northern Europe where they quite evidently struggle.
So what would you do. Have everyone locked to their countries? Well that may happen soon for ordinary people for a different reason. I think controlled (slow) mixing of cultures and yes even DNA is a good thing and makes us all stronger but any sane country will not allow the pace of that to be forced to the detriment of the indigenous people.
Allowing the incoming migrants to change culture against the desires of the indigenous is wrong regardless if by disingenuous politics or sheer rate of numbers.
I think that for the majority of people it doesn’t even need to be overridden; From a personal standpoint, I never feel the need to override any impulse to apply racist judgement to somebody. How often do you find yourself having to admonish yourself to abstain from instinctive knee-jerk racism? Not often would be my guess.
I would be more impressed with the article if I saw more than just the same black guy decked in Union flags in every picture.
Scanning the many pictures that have been published I have struggled to see any other plus representatives from the the other ethnic minorities.
There are many hotbeds or racism in UK and I suspect many feature a high proportion of white hating immigrants. I have had first hand experience of this in business a few years ago – see the reaction you get as a white person walking into a Sharia bank.
Absolutely. It is a farce.
The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant was supposed to be quite racist.
While I agree we are not racist in the way Stephen Fry is quoted as in the piece above, I am sceptical of the free for all implied. What we don’t discuss is the abuse of the word racism. The overwhelming majority of Britons disapprove of mass immigration and can see clearly what is happening to their country and ancient culture. Anecdotally, I work with a number of Asians who are completely indifferent to the monarchy, our history and cultural traditions. They have adopted none of them. That doesn’t mean they are hostile, but nor will they work to continue them. They won’t pause for a minutes silence on armistice day, to pick a simple example. That is our history not theirs. Importantly they will not join us in challenging the emerging narrative we are all imperialist racist dogs. Our decency is being weaponized, and the above article is a case in point. We are being encouraged to assume our anxiety about being labelled racist is good. But it is being used to erode the natural ethnocentrism all stable societies need to survive. Multicultural societies are unnatural and require enormous resources to function. This too is increasingly visible in the… Read more »
This decency is especially obvious in professional British beggars (one should really rather call them footpads) who also disapprove of immigration very much. Also, in middle-to-lower middle class people crossquestioning foreigners to establish if they work (I’ve had this happening to me a couple of times). They don’t much mind black people with the right accents. Of course, that’s all below the BLM radar or rather, completely outside of its scope.
I agree, I do not like the conflating of racism and immigration. I am culturist, I think my culture is best and I don’t want it destroyed but I don’t give a damn what colour your skin is or which country you or your parents were born in.
Having said that I think our own leaders are mostly the ones destroying our culture.
‘ They won’t pause for a minutes silence on armistice day, to pick a simple example. That is our history not theirs.’
Oh?
Wasn’t there a big row a little while ago when an actor mentioned that a WWI film was spoiled by racial, tokenism, depicting an Indian in the trenches?
Many people pointed out that non-white Empire troops played significant part in the fighting in both Wars.
So can we please make our mind up – it is/isn’t part of their history.
This is not about dodging our own history. The comment was the attitudes of Asians I personally know. They feel no connection to Britain or its history. The notion they are becoming flag-waving patriots is absurd.
Acknowledging the role of Indian troops is indeed important, and I’m all for it.
Of course Asia is a big place. Nepal, Afghanistan, Japan and Siberia (not to mention Georgia or Israel) are very different places. “BAME” is even worse…
They did indeed play a significant part, and my relative was hugely grateful to the role played by the Gurkhas serving with him in Italy. By the same token, it is manifest nonsense for the Oscars to pass over the new Dunkirk film for awards on the basis that there were not enough black people shown in the film.
All the woke causes are completely insincere. They claim to be about tolerance but they are really social and political transformation projects.
They are very devious because they zero in on aspects of human nature and attack them relentlessly.
I’m quite happy to admit I’m racially prejudiced. And I’m prejudiced in many other ways too. But I also do my best to be decent to everyone without exception. And those two things are in no way contradictory.
I believe that insisting on that pretty simple point is the best way to stop these political revolutionaries in their tracks.
What will happen to Qatar then, which, last I heard, had a majority population from outside the country?
From the vantage point of the people who use adjectives like racist, colonial and sexist, both history and present are racist, colonial and sexist because all three are essentially defined as whatever the status quo happens to be and the perceived problems are supposed to be solved by radical transformation of it. History has to be overcome because it causes people to associate themselves with the wrongthing.
Yeah all races are equally represented in their adulation of the Queen of the parasitic classes.
How very advanced if us…
Newsflash: They don’t like you either
They are part of the Globalist agenda
Be that as it may, it is not a constitutional monarchy that is the problem, and it was in fact a republic (the PRC) that brought us a lot of this nonsense (with help from another Republic (the “USA”)).
The divisions are with those trying to force their racial issues for their own agendas. I don’t believe they want to see anyone living in harmony, divisiveness is what they thrive on
Divide and conquer. Your children and grandchildren will spend their lives defending themselves against accusations of racism while walking on eggshells lest they offend a minority. At some point a sane society asks if this is worth it. We aren’t exactly shipping in rocket scientists after all.
For some reason, those who think of themselves as the ruling class, think their benevolence will be appreciated and acknowledged when they need it
So far I’ve only caught two things regarding the Jubilee, this peice by Toby, which seems spot on…
And this clip of Boris arriving, with the corwd matching his approval rating ^.^

White and black are racist terms for they have nothing to do with any actual race. For example the only white things that are in the above photo are flags, hats and some clothing.
Compare the soles of a “black” man’s feet to the genitalia of some “white” men…
We need to stop being worried about being called racist. It’s lost all meaning to be just a general accusation against anyone who doesn’t agree to the globalist agenda. It’s been weaponised – become a “nid”, a word spell to silence dissent.
Ive long since stopped worrying if Britain is racist, or if I’m racist. “Racist” is a term devoid of any meaning anymore so I don’t really care if I am or I’m not, or if my country is or not.
Racist!!!
Just like covid went away when we stopped testing, if they stopped preaching and lecturing about racism and just didn’t mention it then it would be gone. Because it simply isn’t a problem.
The only black friend I have also despises BLM and says it isn’t helpful in any way
I agree that racism is not entrenched in the societal DNA of Britain in the way that elites like to advance (perhaps intentionally in the mould of Divide-and-Conquer), for many of the reasons stated. Cultural, religious and racial tolerance have long been three of the many expressions of quintessential Britishness.
However, I fail to understand how this particular event proves anything at all. An “exuberant cultural melting pot” the Jubilee celebrations certainly are and were, and it’s performers and public onlookers are a mixed crowd, granted. But this only proves that Britain is tolerant (and non-racist) enough to insist on representative diversity during a commemorative event.
It is not this, but rather what speaks to me of Britain’s exceptional level of tolerance is experience of everyday life (and accounts of other people’s experience) where racism still exists in pockets of society, but is frowned upon as the aberrant, uneducated, crude behaviour of buffoons.
The Platinum Jubilee proves very little.
