Did Virus Hunters Cover Up a Lab Leak?
Matt Ridley and Prasenjit Ray have written a fascinating piece for UnHerd in which they ask why the Global Virome Project, a well-funded initiative set up by group of public health experts, failed to investigate the origins of COVID-19.
In August 2016, a group of public health experts, policymakers and donors met in the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Conference Center overlooking Lake Como. Their aim was ambitious: to agree on “bold global action” that would mark the “beginning of the end of the pandemic era”. In other words, they hoped to find which viruses might cause the next pandemic, and get a head start on developing vaccines and drugs.
Known as the Global Virome Project, the scheme was officially launched in February 2018. By 2019, it had appointed a board of directors and made the “transition to a legal and operational reality”, according to an email from its head. Yet when a pandemic did break out at the end of that year, instead of leaping into action the Global Virome Project fell silent. It made no announcements, issued no press releases, arranged no public events.
Today, its website is an online zombie. In the greatest pandemic in a century, caused by exactly the sort of novel emerging virus it was designed to predict and prevent, it lists just three publications on its website, one of which is a dead link and the others four and six-years-old. Its “in the news” page lists no article after April 2021. What happened?
Using embassy cables, emails released under freedom of information, and government reports, we have pieced together the history of this wide-ranging international collaborative project and how it vanished just when it was most needed.

Really very little new here. We already knew that the world’s virologists – excited at their recent ability to read genomes and create new ones, have been champing at the bit to use this technology to: cure cancer stop all viral disease mend genetic abnormalities stop aging make men into Gods ….. and that they were funding many labs around the world to create research viruses as part of this process. It is hardly a difficult guess to suggest that one of the research viruses got out – handily designed to rapidly infect human cells (which is exactly what you want for human virus research). And we have seen how the virologists, who thought that they knew so much, are actually only at the beginning of understanding the Human Immune System, and how a virus reacts with it. I want to post this video as Andy Kaufman does a good job of explaining clearly some of the issues around why the field of virology is essentially based on flawed, invalid, bogus science. The reality is that this is very much an unresolved matter and one that deserves sincere and open source widespread attention. A imaginary one for sure! A ‘real’ manufactured virus would have to have been isolated and characterized just like the alleged viruses occurring in nature.
I am sceptical about the lab leak hypothesis. Obviously the bat soup explanation is even more absurd but I am not at all convinced that there was a Wuhan origin. Around the same time there was a major outbreak in Qom in Iran, which has very few Chinese people coming and going. Not to mention evidence of this pathogen existing in other places in earlier times, Canada and France for example.. And then there was the cluster of mysterious deaths and illness that were called for a short time ‘vaping sickness’ with cases clustered around the Fort Detrick military base in America. The presence of the world military games in Wuhan is also interesting.
The Qom aspect is interesting and never mentioned in the mainstream. Including the deaths of senior Iranian military figures. Plus the warnings issued by the US intelligence community in November 2019, a full month before we are told the Chinese were aware there was a problem.
If you look at the real aetiology of this disease and you are sensitive to things that happened before then you will see clearly that this represents a manifestation of a tendency that was growing for decades but took on an impetus in about 2017. I had friends and relatives in hospital with respiratory diseases. Or what about the fact that ten years ago if you went out in your garden you would be overwhelmed with insects. Insects are becoming exotic species these days. As Milan Kundera said, the power of man against power is the struggle of memory over forgetting.
I agree. I wonder, too, about what appears to be insanity with regard to Shanghai. Is it possible that the Chinese suspect the importation of something a lot more dangerous than Covid?

What linked Milan, Wuhan, Tehran and London in early 2020 was massively high pollution levels which were ignored by the media and remain unexplained. In London on 9th April 2020 there were levels of pm2.5 particulate pollution of 150 – about 4 times the normal level. I know this because I checked on an air quality app and was so worried I bought an air filter. It was hard to breathe without it on. The scale on the app referred to it as ‘Airpocalypse’. The number of elderly people who died following a respiratory illness suggests it could be linked and might have been pneumonia. In Milan at the end of 2019 there was a pneumonia outbreak which killed a lot of elderly and vulnerable people. April 9th 2020 remains the peak of the ‘pandemic’ deaths and has never been exceeded. If you are captivated by this narrative then you are already dead. That’s how they see you. You have to try to see these circumstances as they are. Of course you will never do that because that involves self-sacrifice and a diversion away from comfort. In the not too distant future this notion of comfort won’t count for anything. Please if you can divert yourself for a moment.
If covid 19 was a hoax are you suggesting that what followed was only a preparation of minds?
I don’t think it was a hoax. I do think that that they have an elaborate understanding of their path into the future. Why wouldn’t they? They merely have a better measure of outcomes because they have been measuring them for so long.

Whilst researching what all this covid insanity was about I began to hear people that were arguing that virology itself is a fundamentally flawed science and that their basic methods for identify a virus were simply wrong.
It wasn’t simply that the original papers claiming to identify sars-cov-2 were faulty but that the very methods claimed by virologists to show that a virus exists do nothing of the kind.
I think that those arguing for this position make more sense than anyone else.

Just a tad suspicious, isn’t it? I’ve worked with genuinely charitable organisations. We met in places like church halls and school libraries.
These people are being invited to join a select group of the privileged ones. Appearing virtuous is another one of the perks. I’m prepared to accept that there are absolutely genuine people there, but such affairs have insidious effects.
Outsourcing such research to a bunch of quangos and pseudo charities is not the way to do business in an accountable way. If governments want this done they should define the task and fund it directly.
Besides, the model adopted would have had too many rake-offs at each stage with the self-appoinyted international scuientific quango elite having a great time together and in secret.
