Jet2 Becomes First Major Airline to Drop Mask Requirement
Jet2 has become the first major airline to drop the requirement for passengers to wear masks on its planes. The Times has more.
The budget airline quietly relaxed its rules today, telling passengers flying to and from airports in England and Northern Ireland that a mask is no longer mandatory.
A spokesman said: “It’s no longer a legal requirement to wear a facemask at our airports or onboard our planes. However, as per U.K. government guidance, we recommend that you continue to wear a facemask in these spaces, and you will need to wear one when you get to your overseas destination.”
Passengers will be told to put on their mask for descent and landing and will also be required to wear it in foreign airports and on transfers to resorts.
Holidaymakers over the age of six flying to and from Scottish airports will still need to wear face coverings onboard and on the ground.
Jet2 is Britain’s second-biggest tour operator and the move is understood to have come as a surprise to other UK carriers that still insist on masks being worn.
All other British airlines are following guidelines from bodies including the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the International Civil Aviation Organisation, which say that masks should be worn for the duration of flights, except when eating and drinking.
Worth reading in full.
Well done to Jet2, but it’s worth noting that not all airlines are enforcing their mask mandates. When I flew to Mexico City recently on British Airways, a mask didn’t touch my face and at no point during the flight did a member of BA staff – or a fellow passenger – tell me to put one on. Indeed, the only time a flight attendant mentioned it was when I was disembarking in Mexico. “You might want to put on a mask,” he said as I stepped out of the plane. “They can be a bit funny about it here.”

Great. BA get real.
About 3 months ago I took my first flight in almost 2 years. I flew with BA from LCY to BHD and back completely unmasked – as has been the case for me and my wife throughout the nonsense – and TBF no-one at either airport or on board ever said a word. In fact very many fellow travellers ditched the mask in the cruise, and the generous and welcoming BA staff seemed gleefully unperturbed. It made the experience significantly more enjoyable than I had anticipated.
“Passengers will be told to put on their mask for descent and landing … “
The virus attacks in descents and landings?
I at least understand the seatbelt in descent and landing but a facemask?! Takes the biscuit.
Protects the nose from exploding viruses!
It may preferably attack people forced to wear seatbelts. Or maybe, they’re easier targets due to being less able to move.
Yes, for those of us who have developed the uncanny ability to dodge a virus if they see one coming!
Oh, this is common knowledge. Everybody knows that respiratory viruses do better in the descent phase of a airline flight. However, this is only the case on Tuesdays and Thursday and it only attacks economy class passengers.
Phew, thank goodness. I only ever travel Biz.
So you have to wear your nap for take off and landing, like your seatbelt?!! 😆 It’s the dreary old “not wearing a mask is like not wearing a seatbelt” analogy. None of it makes any sense and when you realise it’s not supposed to, it all becomes perfectly clear!
I’m convinced that there are offices around the world, staffed with people who are tasked with, “What’s the most ridiculous covid rule that plebs will adhere to?”
Coroni is such a clever virus; not only has it got an on board Rolex, it now also incorporates a barometer.
Landing is one of the most dangerous parts of the flight, and there is the risk that if the plane disintegrates midair over land, the coronavirus could spew out of your mouth while in free fall, infecting a large area with the deadly virus.
Or… they just needed to add a little caveat to their press release to demonstrate that they are on-message that we should still be afraid of coroni (P.S. “please don’t kill our business with a virtuous Twitter shit-storm”).
Yes, but face knickers will save you.
I’d ignore that part completely. It’s not like they can chuck you off at that point is it? lol Also how can they say you need to wear it in foreign airports when they presumably aren’t aware of the rules for every single country’s airport? I’d be ignoring that part too.
I love Mogwai, one of my favourite bands.

Wait, I thought the Settled Science was that the coofs pounces at higher altitudes, i.e. when you stand up in a pub or restaurant. This must be some sort of new variant that skulks at lower levels to take us unawares.
It goes down into your lungs during ascent and flies out your mouth to infect everyone else during preparation for landing….
Hedged my bets a month or so ago and booked some BA flights on avios for Spain over the jubilee whitsun event thinking everything will be scaled back by then, and if not they’re cancellable.
This and the news that Spain is allowing the unwashed but recovered in makes me feel that all the travel rubbish will be resigned to history very soon…
The problem is, I don’t test so can’t show them I have recovered – other than the March 2020 badge of survival I got. But clearly that doesn’t make the grade – so for me this is a way for them to say, yeah we don’t discriminate but using soft power to push people to get jabbed.
We’ve never had a test either, I can just see things rolling back more and more. Esp Spain – they love tourist money.
Spain needs tourist’s €s.
It has only one tourist?
Sorry, I am such an apostrophe pedant.
You’re certainly something…try allowing for fat fingers and old age.
Ffs, the Western world is imploding and you’re being pedantic?
Are you a banker?
As in, ‘…a wunch of bankers? “
Criticism accepted 😉
I guess the ability to laugh at ourselves and others is one of the things that makes us free.
“Pendant”? Does that mean you’re a swinger? Sorry old age eyesight, I just saw…no ‘n’
its not that hard to create a NHS Notification email that shows you tested +ve. The fact that you are standing in front of them shows you have recovered from the awfull dread disease which the +test proved you had. What else ? A doctors / GPs’ report ? When most of them are hiding in their surgeries too afraid to be in the same room as you and telling you to go to A&E ?
else drop a LFT with 2 red lines on their counter to show you tested +ve – I tried this onec and found they jumped out of their seats to escape the biohazard
I recovered from COVID but I also survived a splinter and a childhood verruca!
A splinter? 😲 The horror 😱
Thank you.
That comment has made my day.
👍
Now just the persecution of the vaccine free travelling internationally to win out on!
It seems to me that even when masks are still mandatory, e.g. in Scotland where I live, fewer people are bothering with them and no one is enforcing the rules anymore. It’s not unusual nowadays to see staff in supermarkets without a mask, although no doubt there will be the odd exception to the above that someone may point out. It seems that common sense is finally making a bit of a comeback, I just wonder how many people will still mask up when it’s no longer mandatory north of the border.
For the first few months of the lockdowns, I was surprised to see that the locally-owned grocery store where I shopped did NOT require its check-out girls to wear masks. Very few did. Now these employees were having close contact with EVERY customer that came through their line (as well as their children and shopping companions). Furthermore, they were touching every single item the customer had put in his or her buggy. As far as I know, none of these employees came down with COVID and the store never had any kind of “outbreak” that forced it to close for X days.
This said, at some point, the employees did begin to wear masks although most have now abandoned this habit (even with “cases” being far higher than they were in the first few months of the pandemic).
I still would love to see some kind of scientific or academic study of case rates of grocery store check-out girls. I still haven’t heard of one check-out girl who had a severe case of COVID, much less died from the disease.
Some studies are taboo.
same in NE Wales – just come back from Lidl where of 20 or 30 shoppers I counted only 4 muzzled complaints
Same observation here down here in South Australia where a five-month-long mask mandate courtesy of our madwoman-in-the-attic CHO, ‘Professor’ Nicola Spurrier, lumbers on even as fewer and fewer people are religiously following the order. They’re done with it, as they’re done with the whole Covid hysteria. We are still a very small minority though – but we get to meet new people by being maskless in a supermarket – ‘our eyes met across the frozen produce aisle ………..’
Nicola??? don’t tell me there are two of them?
Let’s see if common sense prevails when the next flu/cold season is ushered in hysterically by the media in the form of a new variant.
We’ll know it’s truly over when at that point, governments don’t rush in new measures and the public doesn’t reach for their face masks.
It’s very localised, I’m still seeing near complete compliance round my gaff in a commuter toon near Glasgow. It seems to be mostly scowling track-suited sorts who are “exempt”, rather than people who might actually done the research.
Inofficial non-enforcement is welcome but official abandonment is far better. The flight attendant on your next BA flight may as well try to enforce it.
Let’s not forget the science.
All cells that produce the spike protein SHOULD EVENTUALLY be killed after MHC 1 presentation, but this may take years. If RNA is being incorporated into DNA, which some studies are suggesting (invitro) then the spike protein will continue to be expressed! We have no long term data.
…
And the timing of the Russian – Ukrainian conflict is just coincidence?
Wag the Doc?
I’ve been wondering how much the people of the world have collectively spent on masks. Here’s a rough stab at this in America … Let’s say half my country dutifully wore a mask every day not for the entire pandemic (nearly two years) but for just half of the pandemic. That would be 167 million mask-wearing Americans times 365 days (assuming they used a disposable mask and changed them out every day) = 60,955,000,000 masks (60.955 BILLION masks!) Of course, plenty of people probably have washable, re-usable designer masks, so the figure might be lower … but, then again, it might be higher because I’m sure some people wore masks daily for two years and some people no doubt wore more than one mask per day. How much does an average mask cost? The light blue ones I see littering the countryside and parking lots of America probably cost about 5 cents/mask. That would be $3.048 billion spent just on masks …. Just in America. When I got out of college, I decided to go into journalism and became the sports editor of my hometown newspaper. But I’ll never forget the word an older business man (a friend of my… Read more »
I watch ItchyBoots on YT, she travels around the world on her motorbike. In the summer she was in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa. Namibia is one of the least populated countries. They wore surgical masks, in the middle of nowhere! Now she is in South and Central America, lots of surgical mask wearing, even on the blustery coast etc. Ok, countries like Ecuador and Panama, Cost Rica, have been very strict, but it is horrendous to see all these people have fallen for it.
Nothing cryptic about that – he was warning you not to reveal your true self, and that others, particularly in the public eye, do the same.
Norwegian dropped their mask requirements Feb 12th, they also dropped them last summer before reintroducing them in Autumn.
Your point being?
Good for Jet2. Maybe doctors / NHS will catch up with them soon.
How should it have ever been the case that masks were required on airline flights? Even if one assumes that they mitigate the spread of a virus (which they don’t), we still know that every soul that has stepped onboard has tested negative for SARS CoV-2.
So which do you think is more likely: that the airlines are so convinced of the unreliability of the tests that a significant portion of passengers could be false-negative and hence positive (unlikely, because otherwise why would they have become such a universal requirement for travel?), or that there is an entirely different motivation for the requirement of masks outside (way outside) of public health?
Given the data, which show almost beyond doubt the efficacy of masks is non-existent, I would go with the latter any day of the week.
Well, it’s clear you can develop symptoms after testing negative. You could’ve just tested soon after exposure.
But the tests are crap.

Pfizer Adverse Events Review.
Turn to page 30 and read the nine pages they didn’t want revealed until most are all long gone.
Is this a leak?
The first batch of the Pfizer trial data was released today,1st March. Thanks to a Trump elected judge, Pfizer’s request to seal the trial data for 75 years was overturned. Forget the War narrative, this is where attention should be focused!
Jesus christ, 8 solid pages of text single spaced just illness after illness. Harrowing
For God’s sake:
“… The data do not reveal any novel safety concerns or risks requiring label changes and support a favorable benefit risk profile of to the BNT162b2 vaccine.
5. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
Review of the available data for this cumulative PM experience, confirms a favorable benefit: risk balance for BNT162b2.”
And this with 8 single-lined pages of adverse events …
I’d sure hate to see the adverse affects report of a vaccine that actually was harmful then.
Sigh …
since risk of death is FAVOURABLE to them, it’s no surprise however deadly the jabs the regulator decides they’re “safe”
This doc/data was released on Nov 17th Last year, 3rd document down in this list – https://phmpt.org/pfizers-documents/
The docs released yesterday start on page 2 of the link above. This doc at the bottom of page 3 seems concerning, although I can’t see what the code and level relate to, yet.

Love jet2, BA on the other hand are nowt but a bunch of w*****s.
Can i put hamshanker instead?
I’ve noticed over the last few months that the Daily Sceptic actually does as it says on the tin. That is, the DS does actually allow free speech. I’m not qualified to know if allowing us commoners to be heard makes any great difference to the egotistical out-of-their-depth cretins that rule us, but I’ll offer the following quote as circumstantial evidence that free speech might do more good, than it does harm: A commoner said this a short while ago in the Daily Sceptic’s comment’s threads about the UK’s Foreign Secretary: “Liz Truss, who thinks the Mongols and Tatars were separated peoples, encourages British people to go and fight in Ukraine.I’d reckon the highly unqualified Truss read this instruction from a script which was handed to her. I’d wonder if she even knows who it is that invaded Ukraine? Iranians perhaps?I wonder how this disgusting puerile advice by Truss will pan out when British Arabs decide to leave the UK to fight for some despot that is establishing a Caliphate, like ISIS?All people that in the future want to leave the UK to fight for the setting up of despotic Caliphates will now have good grounds for charges… Read more »
I’d love to think that TBTB read my ramblings on here, the Spectator or TCW: DF but they’re probably tugging themselves off on the toilet over whichever influencer has her derrière out that given day on instagram.
I agree. As Boris pointed out today, the RAF would not be providing active air support for fear of drawing NATO into a war with Russia. And while it is inevitable that UK special forces are already operating in Ukraine in some capacity; as highly trained professionals they know their job, as well as procedures on capture.
Unfortunately Dangerous Dave from Dagenham would only be another loose AK47 waiting to be captured and identified. And as captured UK mercenaries would be operating against the Russian army with the open encouragement of the UK government, it could potentially trigger an awkward political situation.
It’s a pity certain government ministers didn’t have a safety lock on their mouths, or at least think first – especially as we have been through this with ISIS recruits just recently.
Is that the dangerous Dave who was too scared to allow his own immune system to tackle COVID and now imagines himself bravely fighting on the eastern front
I guess we’ll know for sure once DD over exerts or over excites himself in training and starts feeling “a little unwell”.
Which is exactly why it’s an offence to sign up to fight against any nation that we’re not actively at war with. You’d think a Foreign Secretary would have been briefed on that.
You’d think any person considered competent to be foreign secretary wouldn’t need to be briefed on that – let alone the geographical position and divisions of the territories under discussion. The fact it took so long to issue a retraction speaks volumes.
Liz Truss is just HIlary Clinton with a lobotomy.
It’s conceivable that someone read the Foreign Enlistment Act 1870 Section 4 to LARPing Liz and explained that we do actually have to declare WAAAAAGH! on Russia before it becomes legal to sign up to fight against them.
Anyone minded to trust Truss might ask the folk who signed up with the Kurds to slot Daesh/ISIS how that panned out for them when the wind changed.

DEATH BY VACCINE “LEGALLY CONSIDERED SUICIDE” FRENCH COURT RULES
“The court recognizes the classification of the insurer who, in view of the announced side effects, including death, legally regards participation in the phase three experiment, whose proven harmlessness is not given, as voluntarily taking a fatal risk that is not covered by the contract and legally recognized as suicide.”
Note: UK insurance companies will not cover vax injuries over it being experimental.
So do we now expect a slew of legal cases against any employer, manager, government minister, SAGE expert, doctor, nurse, teacher, Union, NHS administrator, celebrity, journalist, sportsperson, MSM outlet (BBC, Guardian, Independent et al) who variously pushed, cajoled, threatened, intimidated, shamed, mocked, insulted or otherwise coerced the masses and their hapless sprogs into being Guinea Pigs, but neglected to give these unwitting Guinea Pigs the full SP on what the f*** they were getting into (or more accurately what was getting into them)?
Oh, come on, this again? The secret case with unnamed parties, in an unnamed court?

So that’s not dropping any requirements whatsoever. “be told” ffs
Great! So we’re descending and landing with a mask on, and feeling suffocated. Then, bingo, from overhead, an oxygen mask falls onto my lap………….!!!
Like the moral maze isn’t it. Which one should I wear to stay safe.
No mention anywhere of any covid nonsense on Air Aurigny’s website when I booked. Refreshing to see and well done them.
On those few occasions when it was unavoidable, I always worn a plastic face shield. On trying to go to Gibraltar recently on EasyJet I was told at the boarding gate that I wouldn’t be allowed on the plane wearing it and only a face nappy was acceptable. I was tempted to tell them where to put that idea, but as the trip was for my wife’s birthday, which to spoil was not worth the family repercussions, I eventually and reluctantly had to give in. Perhaps Jet2 will get my business in future!
Thank God for that. Flights to and from Faro booked with Jet2 this morning, hats off to them for the common sense prevailing finally.
I’ve just got back from skiing in Flaine, France. I flew EasyJet from Luton to Geneva. Masking as follows:
Luton Airport: most unmasked, no requirement to mask.
EasyJet flights: masking strongly enforced but I avoided it by filling in an online form beforehand saying I was exempt.
Geneva Airport: about 50% of people unmasked; I don’t think it’s required any more.
Resort transfers: I think it’s required on French public transport but our transfers were private vehicles and nobody bothered to wear a mask.
Ski lifts in Flaine: officially masks are required in gondolas but that was enforced only feebly; most people wore one in the queue then took it off in the gondola.
Restaurants in Flaine: officially masks are required when standing up; not enforced and only a few people wore them.
So, all in all, it was a more relaxing and less masked experience than I had feared. The snow was great, by the way.
The more businesses that tell the WEF to ‘f**k off’ in silent business terms, the sooner decent humanity can return to business as usual….
About time too. Given that firstly, facemasks are about as effective at stopping a virus as chain link fences are at stopping flies and secondly the effectiveness of aircraft air circulation systems why was the ban ever imposed? Perhaps they’ll also stop those stupid announcements that “peanuts must not be eaten on board as one passenger has a nut allergy” as this also demonstrates a total lack of scientific knowledge

Florida. My first destination once I am left in again and can fly there unmasked. Just as a reward for DeSantis.
