New Zealand Finally Abandons Zero Covid Madness
Jacinda Arden has decided to scrap quarantine requirements for returning Kiwis, admitting that the number of Covid cases in New Zealand is now so high it makes little sense to insist on draconian border controls. MailOnline has more.
New Zealanders will finally be able to freely come and go from their island fortress in just a few days with the borders finally opening just a crack.
Prime Minister Jacinda Arden announced on Monday there will be no required quarantine for vaccinated New Zealanders returning home from March 3rd.
Kiwis stuck in Australia through the Covid pandemic have finally been able to get back home after being locked out for months.
Kiwis in Australia could already return to New Zealand without quarantine from Monday, February 28th, as part of NZ’s staggered opening scheme.
Travellers from the rest of the world were required to complete seven days of self-isolation, but that will be scrapped from Thursday for all countries of arrival.
New Zealand created a five step plan for reopening its borders, with Monday’s announcement marking an acceleration of step two.
Covid Response Minister Chris Hipkins said the change allowed Kiwis to immediately reconnect with their loved ones.
“Cabinet has agreed to lift all self-isolation requirements for vaccinated travellers entering New Zealand,” he said.
“That means that all Kiwis coming home and tourists entering the country will be able to step off the plane and immediately connect with family and friends and enjoy all New Zealand has to offer.”
Quarantine-free travel had initially been planned for March 13th but Ms Ardern said high cases in NZ meant the date could be brought forward.
“We’ve wanted to make sure that we’re carefully easing up the border so that we don’t over-burden our health system, but with so many cases in New Zealand now, it makes sense to look at those settings,” she said.

Hopefully they will also drop the vaccine mandates now, given that it is clear from the huge explosion in omicron infections in NZ that being vaccinated is not stopping the spread of COVID at all.

The mandates have nothing to do with protecting anyone’s health and everything to do with enforced submission and the acceptance of one’s new status as the subject of an authoritarian state.
Almost every feature of what used to be everyday life requires a certificate proving that one is obedient.
They no longer pretend that the mandates are stopping infection. We are required to believe that they are there to ensure that the “unvaccinated” reprobates don’t get ill enough to be ordered into a hospital,

In more grim news for Jacinda ‘Gnashers’ Ardern, the New Zealand High Court has upheld a challenge to the legality of vaxx mandates for Police and Defence Force employees, deciding that the government mandate is an unjustified incursion on the Bill of Rights, as well as being unreasonable and not demonstrably justified.
The judge recognised that the mandate is a form of employment-denying coercion infringing the right to refuse a medical intervention whilst he also agreed that “both vaccinated and unvaccinated staff” can contract and transmit the virus, maning the mandate does not “make a material difference” to virus spread in the two services – if ‘vaccination’ does not prevent infection and transmission, what is the argument for denying someone employment over their refusal to get the jab? (hey, maybe I could be a High Court judge because I knew this from the get-go!)
The ruling does that wonderful legal thing of setting a precedent for vaxx mandate (and passport) legal cases more generally, not just in NZ but also across the ditch in Australia (we could do with some good news in the Land of Oz, where legal cases are pending in WA and SA).

Seems like the dropping of quarantine only applies to vaccinated people. So anyone unvaccinated (or, in the new parlance, “not fully vaccinated”) is still treated as a leper.

It is very very important for politicians to never even mention the possibility that the vaccines have simply made things worse; they’ll continue to swear that the vaccines offer marvellous protection even in the face of all the data stating the exact opposite.
It is worth putting the situation in New Zealand into context.
They’re currently recording around 15,000 cases per day, with a population of 5 million — that’s the equivalent of around 200,000 cases per day in the UK.
BUT — at the moment the main outbreak is limited to the Auckland region, with a population of approaching 2 million, so that’s the equivalent of something like 500,000 cases per day in the UK.
In recent days Covid appears to have started to spread more rapidly throughout the rest of NZ.
That said, it isn’t clear if this is a true total as they’ve appeared to have difficulties distributing testing at this high level of new cases.
Currently covid hospitalisations and deaths in NZ are low, but that should be seen in the context of a tenfold increase in daily new cases over the last week; we’ll know more about how well the vaccines are protecting the population in the absence of natural immunity in a few weeks’ time.

Even though NZ data reflects that from around the world that the “vaccinated” are far more likely to contract Covid – those “able to freely come and go” are only the “vaccinated”. “Vaccine”-free people will still be detained by the state for as long as the state requires. Also, currently it is only Australia (and I think some pacific islands) – not anywhere in the world. This is hardly something to celebrate. NZ is still a hermit island run by a dictator and is blighted with unscientific and nonsensical rules which have destroyed this country and many of its people.
