“I Have No More Tears”: Athletes in Despair Over Covid Quarantine Conditions at Beijing Winter Olympics

Event organisers of the Winter Olympics in China are facing a litany of complaints from athletes and countries on multiple fronts, especially over the COVID-19 isolation arrangements. The Guardian has more.

The Polish speed skater Natalia Maliszewska, who was forced to miss the 500m short track event on Saturday, revealed that she had faced fear and uncertainty in a Beijing isolation ward after testing positive for Covid.

“Since a week I have been living in fear and these changes in mood,” she said. “I cry until I have no more tears and make not only the people around me worry but myself too,” she said.

Those in an isolation ward are allowed out if they are free of symptoms and have two negative Covid tests 24 hours apart and Maliszewska was eventually released back to the Olympic village – before being told there had been a mistake.

“People got me out of my room at 3am,” she said. “This night was a horror, I slept in my clothes in my bed because I was afraid that at any moment someone would take me back to isolation. Then a message that unfortunately they were mistaken, that I am a threat, and should not have been released from isolation.

“I have to get back to the Olympic Village as soon as possible,” she added. “I can’t understand this anymore. I no longer believe in any tests, any Olympics. To me this is a big joke, I hope whoever is managing this has a lot of fun. My heart and my mind can’t take this anymore.”

More than 350 Games participants, including dozens of athletes, have tested positive upon arrival in the Chinese capital since January 23rd. Many are still in isolation, fearing their Games are over.

One of those is the Finnish ice hockey player Marko Anttila, whose team believes he is being kept in COVID-19 isolation for no reason. “From a medical perspective we know that a person like this is no longer infectious, no danger to the other team,” Finnish doctor Maarit Valtonen said. “These isolation decisions are not based on medicine or science, it’s more cultural and political decisions.”

The Finland head coach Jukka Jalonen said that the situation was affecting Anttila’s mental health. “We know that he’s fully healthy and that’s why we think that China, for some reason, won’t respect his human rights and that’s not a great situation,” he added.

The Russian biathlon competitor Valeria Vasnetsova also recently expressed her experiences of being in a quarantine hotel, posting on Instagram: “My stomach hurts, I’m very pale and I have huge black circles around my eyes. I want all this to end. I cry every day. I’m very tired.”

Vasnetsova posted a picture of what she said was “breakfast, lunch and dinner for five days already” – a tray with food including plain pasta, an orange sauce, a piece of meat on a bone, a few potatoes and no greens.

There are also general complaint about the food, with Germany’s coach Christian Schwaiger lamenting there was no hot food available for athletes: “The catering is extremely questionable, because really it’s not catering at all. I would have expected that the Olympic Committee is capable of providing hot meals. There are crisps, some nuts and chocolate and nothing else.”

The IOC said it was working with Beijing 2022 to address the issues, adding about the situation in the Covid hotels: “We feel for every athlete who cannot compete because of a COVID-19 infection. The protocols have been put in place to ensure safe Olympic Games for everyone.”

It’s for your safety so suck it up and stop complaining. Will it ever end?

Doesn’t that many testing positive strike you as extremely suspicious? Wouldn’t they have been tested negative before they departed? I do think a boycott would have been their better choice though. It’s not beyond the wit of man for the various winter sports’ bodies to have organised alternative competitions elsewhere, and given them the same status as the Olympics.

I suspect the only reason why most of them went is because in 2030 they’ll be too old to compete well, and the IOC passed a rule (in response to the political boycotts of 1976, 1980 and 1984) that any country which boycotts one Olympics will be banned from the next…

Poor girl. This sort of treatment should never have become the norm even in our own country.

Over the road from me my neighbour had the vzine and soon fell ill. He’s fairly old. He’s now been in hospital for 3 weeks and has been moved to ICU with a pneumonia. His family tell me they aren’t allowed to visit him as he’s in the covid ward. All very strange.

Anyway, let’s hope he gets better soon.

Surely, the way the Chinese are treating Covid (which even sheeple now recognise as a runny nose) can be used to show how much over-reaction their initial response also was. Golden opportunity to show the World what a lie the whole Scamdemic has been. We need memes of Chinese in Hazmat suits running from a runny nose, or something (clearly I am no meme creator!)

Little interest or sympathy from me. They’ve collaborated with the covid nonsense by going there under these rules.

Celebrity professional “sport” holds little or no interest for me these days. Professionalisation has made it basically alien from ordinary humanity (and the comedy of pretending the Olympics were “amateur” died long ago). These are just abnormal people devoting their lives to pointless athletic excess for gain.

Well, speaking as someone who could be seen as indulging in “athletic excess” I would say it’s as pointful or pointless as any other human activity, but I agree they are a bunch of hypocritical tarts in the main and I have little interest in watching sport, only in doing it.

Why anyone would go to China especially with the covid bollocks going on and expect the experience to be pleasant is beyond me. I can’t stand the Olympics at the best of times, anywhere, but throw in China, masks, covid and it becomes repulsive – I caught a few minutes of something the other day and the arena was empty except for a few teammates and officials. I’d rather watch talented amateurs doing their stuff locally.

It had to be like this. There is no way that these young people would be allowed to enjoy their Olympic Games, they have to suffer the Covid Games.

Some unfortunates were destined to be found PCR positive before their competition’s started. It was always the intention of the Davos Deviants to harm these athletes both psychologically and physically hence the poor conditions and garbage food. Some of these youngsters will only get one shot at an Olympics. For some they will never even start. How utterly devastated must they feel.

The youth of today have to be broken in mind and spirit in order to provide a suitably pliant population for the encroaching slave society. Destroying role models, proud, confident, fit athletes, is a good start.

The Olympics, in China, in 2022? Coincidence?

I can at least understand why climate change sceptics get accused of racism. The use of the term “deniers” to describe them is clearly intended to imply that (like Holocaust deniers) they aren’t sincerely mistaken, but rather are lying in service of a sinister agenda.

In the case of Holocaust deniers that agenda is to rehabilitate the Third Reich, while in the case of climate change sceptics it is presumably to write off Africa (and other parts of the world inherently vulnerable to global warming) so that Westerners can continue to enjoy their fossil-fuelled lifestyles.

Where’s the logic in ascribing racism to opponents of the biosecurity state? Vaccine passports (for example) are arguably racist in themselves: while the media stereotypes the unvaccinated as right-wing Trump supporters (strange that in the pre-Covid era anti-vaxxers were more likely to be stereotyped as hippies!) there is also a high level of vaccine hesitancy in the black community.

GCarty80

OF COURSE the tests aren’t 100% accurate!

Why else would “Zero Covid” countries like Australia and NZ have kept having periodic lockdowns even though they not only required incomers to test negative before boarding the flight, but also that they spend 14 days in hotel quarantine on arrival?

There’s a reason why such countries ban essentially all foreigners from entering their territory except for a tiny number of exceptions (such as elite athletes, at the Australian Open last year or the Winter Olympics at the moment).

Last summer, Taiwan though they could allow visitors again (provided they quarantined), but not long after they had a close call with an Alpha outbreak as a result.

Could these 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing take a place in the history books to rival the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin?   “A top Russian general has warned Vladimir Putin not to go to war with Ukraine, accusing the leader of whipping up an ‘artificial’ conflict to distract from his domestic problems.”   This is a very interesting statement from this top Russian general. I suspect this statement stems from this general being out-of-touch with what’s really going on in the world.   Top ranking generals can indeed be out-of-touch with global events. The famous United States WWII General George Patton is an example of a top military commander not being on the same page as his political masters.   George Patton was fully convinced as he led his army across Europe from Normandy that he would not be stopping in Germany. Patton truly believed that in the least the Allies would march right through Germany and push the Communists out  of Eastern Europe, and maybe even march onwards to Moscow and also kick them out of there.   “As Berlin was falling in World War 2, General Patton advised that the Americans push all the way to Moscow,… Read more »

This comment from the guardian, reveals the level of fantasy and lies in the reporting of our news.

  • Debate continues to run on if and when Russia will launch an attack on Ukraine. While the Kremlin denies it has such plans, Latvia’s deputy prime minister and defence minister, Artis Pabriks, said one factor influencing the timing could be that many Russian troops camped at the border are sick with Covid and suffering from poor conditions, which could force a decision by the Kremlin.

In 1919 Churchill penned an article in The Times roundly condemning the Bolsheviks but by the 1930’s, having blown his wealth on booze and gambling and thus heavily in debt to the same people who funded the Bolsheviks, he waged a war that served their interests alone.

By doing so, he helped eliminate the only force that stood in the way of them securing world domination – and that includes exercising control over the US, Russia and China.

Did you know that Churchill left a lot of tailors in Savile Row out of pocket by not paying them for suits they made for him.   The MSM touched on this once, but left it with the implication that Churchill was preoccupied with other affairs and simply forgot to pay the tailors – but a man like Churchill had secretaries and other office staff, so this doesn’t stack up. But, as you’ve said, the  booze and gambling.   I also think that the pan-globalists work and manipulate people like Churchill into deep states of debt, and then keep them that way as a means to control them. That’s the way they control the USA. Through the Federal Reserve, the US government is eternally in debt to them.   That’s why early forms of Christianity and even Islam banned usury. It is why Jesus was against it. People think the story in the New Testament relates to Jesus kicking one or two random money lenders out of the Temple.   That story is just an analogy. What Jesus and his followers were really about was kicking the money lenders out of Israel entirely. Jesus’ aim was to overthrow the ruling… Read more »

You should check out the other people that hated the Nazis. These people had the German economy by the throat after WWI – they did not do anything to improve the lives of German people, instead they enriched themselves at the cost of ordinary Germans who had to use barrow loads of money to buy loaves of bread.   When Hitler and his party came to power, they drove the usurers out of the German economy. Then the German economy thrived, leaving the rest of Europe, including the UK, stagnated.   The usurers didn’t like being ousted, so they began a boycott of German goods in the US and anywhere else they had power. The puppet Churchill would probably have been fully onboard with this boycott. This boycott had great success in the US where the compliant White sheep followed their masters instructions.   We see where obediently following the usurer masters has led the White sheep in the US to. It’s now actually legal to steal in some US cities – if what is robbed costs less than a $1000, the thief will not be prosecuted. And, of course, the thieves are extremely busy.     Why did Churchill hate… Read more »

“Perhaps he was jealous that Germany had become the economic powerhouse of Europe, which showed up the 1930’s UK politicians for the inadequate puppets they were.” While Germany today may be an economic powerhouse, Germany in the 1930s wasn’t so much. Living standards were very low for the most part as while German industrial companies were up there with the world’s best, German agriculture had advanced little since the 19th century, which meant that Germans paid much more for food than Americans or even Britons. And when Ford representatives visited Germany, they were shocked to find that what they considered a basic flat that even their lowest-paid workers in Detroit would be able to afford, would in Germany be considered luxury accommodation, costing four times what working-class Germans had to spend on housing. Nazi propagandists bragged about how they rid Germany of unemployment, but this was largely done by putting people to work making weaponry or drafting them into the army, both paid for by deficit spending. This was aided by the so-called “Mefo bills”: bond issued by a bogus company which the Nazis had set up precisely in order to conceal their deficit spending from the rest of the… Read more »

I had a very similar sentiment, but I’ve put a bit of a check on it because many of these athletes dedicate years of their life in preparation for this moment. For many, not all but many, the Olympics is the only significant goal, the entire purpose of their efforts and throwing away years of dedication to that cannot be easy.

I don’t have a huge amount of sympathy for them because they could have seen what was coming if they’d spent a bit of time informing themselves, but I’m not prepared to judge them too harshly either.

Maybe. I prefer to look at Tennys Sandgren as a role model for elite sportspeople. Aside from Djokovic the only unvaxxed player in the men’s top 100, reportedly, he did not apply for an exemption to go to Aus Open and is remaining in the US to play, for now. He defended Novak on Twitter and had this to say: ““I wish I was there just so I could pull out. I guess solidarity is only cool when it comes with a check. If you think the sport tennis matters more than this issue – you are a f****** moron.””

The point is if all the dedicated athletes came to their senses and refused to participate, they could have their Olympics elsewhere and fulfill their ambitions. There is really no need to support a dictatorship to achieve that goal. As always, ethics should be the concern of each individual, cannot be outsourced to an organization and should never be abandoned because of “circumstances” that are “forcing you” to do so. Especially if the “forcing” comes down to just lost satisfaction and income.
