Vaccine Passports Don’t Work But Should Be Adopted Anyway to Coerce Young People into Being Vaccinated, Scientific Advisers Tell Government
Vaccine passports do little to stop coronavirus transmission at festivals, but should still be considered anyway to increase vaccine uptake in young people, scientists advising the Government have said. It’s the first time advisers have admitted the vaccines do not prevent transmission but have argued the illiberal policy should be adopted purely to coerce people to do something for their own benefit. The Telegraph has the story.
A newly released paper by the Environmental Modelling Group (EMG) shows that researchers admit that vaccine passes have a “limited impact” on the spread of the virus because even vaccinated people can have breakthrough infections, and immunity wanes over time.
However, they argue that they could be used as a “policy lever” to improve the number of young people being vaccinated.
The paper, which was submitted to the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) said: “Although vaccinated individuals are less likely than others to be infectious, it is important to recognise that, whilst protection against severe disease is very high, protection against infection is incomplete and that breakthrough infections can still lead to onward transmission.
“Emerging evidence shows that protection against infection wanes over time, the longer the duration since attendee’s last Covid vaccination, the less indicative vaccination status could be of protection against infection.
“For these reasons vaccine certification, per se, is likely to have a limited impact on reducing transmission at festivals. However, it should be noted that the introduction of vaccine certification has been linked to increased vaccine uptake.
“Given higher vaccine complacency in certain groups, such as youth who perceive lower risks of infection, this intervention could be an additional policy lever to increase vaccine uptake and population level immunity.”
Critics of vaccine passports have long argued that even fully vaccinated people are capable of catching and transmitting the virus and so certification should not be used to stop people from attending events or travelling.
But it is the first time that Government scientists have admitted that they could be used primarily for forcing people to be vaccinated, rather than to stop the spread of the virus.
The Telegraph article notes the new report suggests the Government is again considering vaccine passports for mass events such as summer festivals. Let’s hope this is just an aberration from the modellers rather than something the Government would be foolish and wicked enough to implement. When is the Government going to let the emergency – including all vaccine-related requirements – end?

I read those words in the picture EF added in her post and my immediate response back was. NO! What you should have said was “we will never know how safe this vaccine is going to be until we have gone through the standard 10 year drug trial process”.

Jabbing young people with clot shots is definitely not for their benefit. The risks from the clot shots are additional as the jabs are supposedly prophylactic yet they kill more than the palcebo and are therefore higher risk. The chronic lack of knowledge of the medical community has shocked me.
I wish I could say I was surprised. I still recall 30 years ago meeting a couple of GPs (they were friends of my brother) on a few occasions and how shocked I was at their lack of general knowledge (and inquisitiveness).

In my experience, with one exception only, the GP is a highly trained dispenser of pills. As soon as “they” mention BMI, I am out of there.
Once asked a GP with whom I was having a very full on row how much they studied nutrition whilst qualifying – said GP got very shirty and ended the telecon shortly thereafter. I knew it was diddly squat and was just being a nuisance.

The face-saving theory doesn’t stack up.
They have had many opportunities to back down, de-escalate the whole thing and get back to normality, starting with the spring of 2020 when it quickly became clear the overall population mortality rate for the new virus was not much more than the flu.
Even then they didn’t just not call it off, they drove a fear campaign and made it socially unacceptable to claim covid was not particularly dangerous.
The pattern is more like one where a government somewhere tries to remove measures and restore normality and all of a sudden in reverses course for now apparent reason.
There is a power somewhere that is driving an agenda which is putting immense pressure on national governments to retain as many measures as possible.
I agree it has gone beyond face saving but that doesn’t necessarily mean that what is driving it is external. It could simply be that they’ve realised it’s an excellent way to grab more power and money for themselves and their mates – what politician would refuse that opportunity?

I agree. Underestimating the craven stupidity of most politicians is never a good idea, but this is not simply ignorant panic. It is too persistent; too widespread.
This is closer to the mark. I think the reality is more prosaic. People move in herds, and there is no political incentive – within their political grouping, e.g. parliament or cabinet – for individual politicians to veer off course. They keep going until either they crash into a wall (e.g. 20% of jabbees die from heart attacks) or the political cost becomes too high (losing votes). I suppose things can just run out of steam, especially if a competing political priority comes up (war in Ukraine), but I suspect this is the least common way for these things to end. The best way out of this is the political route. If even 10% of voters, who voted Conservative at the last election, vote for the Reform party (or similar) then the Tories will be wiped out. This won’t be lost on them.
I find it helps thinking about politicians as gangsters in a mafia clan. They don’t care about anything besides climbing to the top, and they have to operate within the political reality (Covid is really dangerous, the vaccines are great etc.,) that they inhabit.
If 10% who voted Tory in 2019 vote Lab or LibDem, or even Reform, Lab probably wins. This is due to the strange workings of the FPTP system.
Lab supporters of civil liberties and medical freedom need to be more vocal and ideally say they’ll vote for another party.
I think MPs like David Davis or Clive Lewis have strong principles. it’s just that at least 450 MPs don’t. So they support what is in effect the Starmer-Johnson Party. Its two halves might as well merge and demonstrate to the public that we live in a dictatorship.

Festivals are mainly held in the summer, and mainly attended by young people. Do they remember August 2020? Covid deaths went to zero on some days, others were single figures. This was prior to the magic Vax of course. Given that young people have a death rate of very close to zero % it is not a risk for this cohort. How did the figures go so low, and why did they rise again in autumn/winter? Is there any other disease that effects particularly the elderly in the winter [cough cough – flu?!].

I was final sent a Europe wide study about increasing vaccine uptake. That was it, just that one research paper. No attempt to hide the fact that vaccine uptake was what it was all about.

Not defending the content of the report in any way at all. However, it was released to the public this week but actually submitted on 23rd December last year when the UK had recently moved into Plan B and covid passports were being used in wider society. Plan B was thankfully ended on 26th January and one would have to hope that the public mood has now shifted well away from such policies. However, at the time of its production they were very much in play – it’s worrying if not surprising to have it confirmed that Sage were considering using them up to and including the summer but I think it’s a stretch to say that the government are actively considering re-introducing them now. Hopefully I’m not being too optimistic here.
One might ask why it was released to the public so long after its submission. If it has already been binned by TPTB, we should have been told. Something still stinks.
I accept that nothing can be discounted any more but it has been released through the official channel and reported on by the Telegraph rather than as a leak to the Guardian or BBC, which is usually the preferred MO of disgruntled Sage members who don’t get their way. They are in use right now for travel in/out of the country. Perhaps not in use for domestic use. They are in use for domestic purposes here in Finland and many other European countries.

I’m completely against any use of a vaccine passport in any context domestically or internationally. I’m just pointing out that there is a contextual difference between when the report was compiled and when it was made public. The use of the term “new report” now implies a change of policy (reverting back to domestic vaccine passports) whereas at the time it was compiled it was a continuation of an already in-place policy.
My main point is that for once it could actually be more positive on this regard than a first glance could imply. But then again some people seem to prefer to receive negative news that entrenches their position rather than positive news that could point to a brighter outlook.

We’ve not travelled since trip from UK to Sweden in Oct 2020 at which point there was no requirement to test or show vaxx pass, and at that point Sweden was on the green list or whatever they called it so no need to pretend to self-isolate. Wife went to see her mum in Europe summer 2020, again at that point no restrictions.
Our current plan is not to go anywhere until all requirements to test, self isolate, vaxx pass etc are lifted from wherever we travel to and for return to UK. It remains to be seen how long we will hold out, but we’re pretty stubborn people. The Mrs might relent if her mum gets ill (God forbid) which would be understandable, but my bet is we will outlast the bastards.
We’ve never tested, not vaxxed. Various events we’ve been invited to that required tests we’ve refused the invite. But we’re lucky in that neither of us have been under pressure from employers, though the Mrs was ostracized from the tennis group she was in – she found some non-facists to play with.

I am not sure if they need vax passes to get digital ID? it is virtually here anyway, smart meters in your home that allow them to control you electric use, driving licences, bus passes, passports, social security, tax etc. all linked on line with the Government Gateway. Once your digital photo is on line they can use it for all official purposes.
