Surrender: Labour Party Finally Abandons Lockdown Policy
In an article for today’s Mail on Sunday, Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting says that we should never lock down the country again and have to learn to live with the virus. When even lockdown’s most fervent enthusiasts abandon the policy, you know the argument is won.
We know that the coronavirus is here to stay but, as Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, I don’t want to see our country in lockdown ever again.
A visit to a primary school in my constituency this week was a reminder that lockdowns come at a great cost.
Children spent 155 days out of school on average over the past couple of years, but the impact on their learning, their wellbeing and their life chances is immeasurable.
Entrepreneurs who have spent years building up their businesses have seen them collapse, while others have made enormous sacrifices just to survive.
Workers have lost their jobs.
All through no fault of their own.
I still haven’t forgiven the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, for leaving so many self-employed people excluded from any support whatsoever, while carelessly handing billions in Covid support to fraudsters.
There is plenty of evidence that shutting us off from our colleagues, friends and family has taken its toll on our mental health and wellbeing.
Feelings of loss and loneliness are inevitable when much of what makes life worth living is taken away.
That’s why when Keir Starmer spoke about shifting the focus on healthcare to prevention as well as cure yesterday, he pledged that Labour would guarantee mental health support within a month to all who need it.
We need to learn to live with Covid.
Worth reading in full.

Yeah, but, but they still don’t want it to end.
The end of Plan B in sight? ‘Optimistic’ Oliver Dowden hints Covid curbs WILL be lifted on January 26 as Sajid Javid believes the ‘data is moving in the right direction’ – but masks are likely to stay
Masks protect covid & stop it going extinct, I bet labour won’t vote against masks.
All that means is more vaccine pressure & coercion.
I just woke up from a great family (only) celebration of my 80th birthday to find a socialist making since!’ am I awake?
Not exactly difficult when they already know their previous line (and that of the government) was all BS. If you know the truth of a matter and see the wind blowing in a different direction because the lies and cover-ups are staring to (and increasing in number / severity) be uncovered, then a politician is bound to change direction.
I don’t hear them apologising to everyone from getting it so wrong – why? Because the knew it was and cannot admit so, because it is effectively criminal.
Please read the whole article – new variant? Would not hesitate to reintroduce measures etc. All a sham. Many happy returns by the way.
Indeed
‘a labour spokesperson made it clear that they would still vote on renewed lockdown provisions in the face of new variants’ (or similar, towards end of DM article).

Masks protect covid? But what is covid? No one has isolated it yet, and it hasn’t changed mortality rates.
Until proven it exists, as anything other than a normal coronavirus, I’ll be calling it seasonal flu with its like-for-like symptoms.

Without a full sincere apology and acknowledgment we were correct it is just canting hypocrisy.
Pivoting is spineless pragmatism.
I’m not accepting apologies. And less so from the politicians who abdicated all responsibility at the time.
I’m sorry but as far as I’m concerned, anyone in parliament who voted for lockdowns should face criminal charges, basically for putting healthy, innocent people under house arrest.
That’s the only way this kind of abuse doesn’t happen again for a long time.
Without admission of guilt and an apology what use is punishment?
Nuremburg Nazis deserved the death penalty, but ought to have become conscious of their crimes and apologised too.
Repentance involves this even justice must be severe.
All politicians who have nodded this sh*t show through are now guilty of ‘complicity’ in whatever transpires – including the casualties that are mounting as a direct consequence of their actions!
I don’t care about stupid apologies. I want these people in prison for criminal negligence and human rights violations.
Indeed! What about plotting treason against the British people?
Nearly two years too late…
Yes, and absolutely worthless at this time. He’ll drop it the minute the next lockdown is imposed.
Quite so, there is nothing Wes Streeting is saying that we haven’t been telling them since the start of Lockdown One.
Businesses have needlessly closed, jobs lost, childrens education disrupted. mental health hugely damaged, suicides and domestic abuse gone though the roof, lives ruined and all for no reason.
We look back on the foolishness of Savanarola with his Bonfire Of The Vanities and wonder how it could be allowed to have happened.
History will look back on Covid/lockdown in the same way noting that once again reactionary restrictions got more severe the more obviously pointless they became as the hardliners desperately try to salvage their reputations.
Savanarola came to a very sticky fiery end
Savonarola was liberal
They can seriously fuck off with this. Many of us were saying this from the start. Lockdowns hammered the working class, we all knew it. Labour chose to ignore that and it was their pressure which partly encouraged the tories to adopt these policies. I will never ever vote Labour again after this, modern labour is a woke joke.
They’re ignoring the boot being stuck into nurses and other healthworkers “in the name of Covid” right now.
The Dutch PvdA is the equivalent of the UK Labour Party (the name means the same thing). It is a shadow of its former self for a variety of reasons. It has already told the current government it will support the introduction of 2g on the workfloor. That means only recovered or vaxxed can go to work. Employers have already expressed concern about having to keep paying employees, even if they are not working (a lot of jobs cannot be WFH, shops, mechanics, etc.).
IMO this will inevitably lead to said employers being allowed to fire the unvaxxed as it would be too burdensome for them to continue paying someone who can’t go to work. It will also cause strife for the vaxxed who are working and doing the unvaxxed’s work. The employment laws here are very strict, it is very difficult to fire people and they’ve been trying to change this for years. To me it is evident that this 2g crap is being used to achieve various aims, one is to undermine the existing employment protection laws. And the Dutch Labour Party is only too happy to cooperate. These hypocrites need to start calling themselves the Anti-Labour Party.
The UK Labour party represent primarily public sector white collar workers, precisely those who most benefited from WFH.
There is virtually no industrial working class left but huge numbers of no fixed contract ‘self employed’ represented by no party of left or right.
Yes – more BS, same politicians and Lying Media!
Problem is who is there left to trust? They are almost all as bad as each other except for a very few who are unlikely to gain influence or power in the near future
Mind you, they said that about Winston Churchill before Hitler invaded Poland but there is nobody approaching his stature anywhere on the horizon.
They think they sense an opportunity. The trees are going to be thick with Political Vultures. Plain and simple.
There is something else besides those disgusting face-nappies that needs to be removed IMMEDIATELY.
Those hideous perspex screens that have sprung up in supermarkets, libraries and all over need to be destroyed NOW.
The object of these things is to turn customers into suppliants. Nothing to do with the virus or public health. They are hideous.
Yes – to turn customers into supplicants, and to turn low-level counter clerks of all kinds into farmhands, ushering the ear-tagged livestock along the conveyor belt.
Exacatly! Note how rude and aggressive low-level ‘staff’ are becoming as they now treat ‘customers like cattle!
Oh come. You know this CIA generated Wu flu cannot get around, over, or though the slots in this Chinese supplied plastic.
Come on man where have you been, you know its for your protection.
How about letting people in and out of the country without having to have our health screened – you know, as we have always done..
There is a lot to be dismantled.
Personally I’d go further and ban the wearing of masks in public. There was a time when masks were only worn by bandits. And yes, all the Covid paraphernalia must go, screens, sanitiser, notices, announcements. They are instruments of torture that belong in history books and museums.
Screens in shops are almost the only things left, apart from twats voluntarily wearing masks.
One way systems in the aisles abandoned (the most irritating and useless of all).
Can’t remember the last time I heard a Covid Safety tannoy announcement or saw a Covid Awareness poster.
Red/green traffic lights to restrict numbers gone.
Manufactured car park queues disappeared as quickly as they arrived.
Junior staff no longer sanitizing trolleys.
Sanitiser pods now a sop for fanatics (ignored notably by hospital staff starting their shifts under the eye of security and reception staff).
Retailers definitely not giving the support to any lockdown restrictions as they once did.
Local Tesco still has separate in and out doors – that needs to go. And the table with assorted sprays and paper towels outside the ‘in’ door. Plus plastic screens, of course – and sometimes announcements about wearing face nappies.
You must have a fanatic local manager.
Wales ?
Where was that?
My local Tesco is still the full nightmare. Used to be my regular place but I haven’t set foot in there for over a year. Doubt if I’ll ever go back.
Have you told them why?
Home Bargains still inflicting the “Stay Safe / protect each other” which is annoying because they have been very relaxed throughout.
Tesco, on the rare occasions I have to cross the threshold are still pumping the safety crap and by God can they drag in mask idiots.
Otherwise most shops are taking no notice thank goodness.
They all only care about their organisation/business, and everything else is secondary to that
They don’t actually give a fig what the mantra is, so long as it makes them ‘good/powerful’. They will switch tack in a heartbeat, and end up condemning the very mantra they once chanted.
All still here in Wales in many establishments.
IMHO shop screens protect till operators from the disgusting habits of some unhealthy customers spreading their common or garden germs without a thought for preventative hygiene that used to be standard practice.
My Google feed this morning included a Guardian review of a new Amazon Fresh store in London, supposedly fully automated with no staff, cameras recording everything you pick up and charging you account without human contact so presumably no need for screens.
Reviewer said it was not a happy experience.
Soulless.
I think she used that very word.
There were three humans present. One guiding potential shoppers into the logging in process, one guarding the booze and one somewhere else.
“Guardian”? Not here please!
Know thine Enemy.
I do try to avoid Guardian entries on my Google feed but this one rightfully looked interesting.
Problem is it will encourage Google to punt more of their stuff at ne.
Oh well, improved from earlier which was 2👍-5👎against!
Anything to breakdown civilised human contact and label the whole population as permanently “sick” and in need of more “experimental” Gates vaccines – such unbelievable Evil has rarely been seen !
Absolutely. As if the aerosol-borne virus can’t get around screens!!
When the rulers talk of peace, war is already being prepared.
When the talk is of “no more lockdowns”, the next lockdown is already being prepared.
“If you want peace, be prepared for war”.
Wes Streeting: “I still haven’t forgiven the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, for leaving so many self-employed people excluded from any support whatsoever, while carelessly handing billions in Covid support to fraudsters.”
Dig the word “carelessly”. I mean Wes Streeting, a so-called “opposition” politician, wouldn’t want to suggest that Rishi Sunak is in any way a BAD MAN. He wouldn’t want anyone to think in that way about a serving senior member of Her Majesty’s Government.
With “opposition” like the f***ing Labour party, the government hardly needs any “friends”.
“I still haven’t forgiven John” is mostly something you say as a joke.
“Carelessly” is certainly something you say when you don’t want to leave open the possibility that anybody might think you’re suggesting that a person is a crook.
It’s so easy to spend other people’s money.
Create a disaster, then steal money from the population and give it to people you favour (for whatever reason) to try to make up for the wreckage of your own making.
That’s the entire job of these useless officials.
Crrrrrripes. If the whole Labour party talked that way, I’d vote for them – and I used to be somewhere to the right of Genghis Khan.
If in March, say, a Tory government issues a “You must stay at home” order, as it did in March 2020, what do you think the probability is that Streeting will say “Hell no! Bad BAD government. Don’t do what they say”? He’ll be supporting them to the hilt.
If he cares about workers losing their jobs, why doesn’t he mention the real live issue of the “vaccine” mandate that is being imposed on healthworkers?
That’s because “prevention as well as cure” is code for mandatory jabs for all.
This apparent change of heart will only be for some perceived political advantage though it’s not immediately obvious what Labour might think that is.
Everybody knows their whole lockdown policy has been
‘more, sooner, harsher and longer’.
‘workers have lost their jobs through no fault of their own’ – presumably this person would classify those who have been dismissed for refusal to take an experimental vaccine as fair game for sacking
He most certainly would, it’s all about the jabs.
Will such sacked healthcare workers be fully entitled to unemployment benefits or will they be regarded as deliberately making themselves unemployed?
”I still haven’t forgiven the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, for leaving so many self-employed people excluded from any support whatsoever, while carelessly handing billions in Covid support to fraudsters.”
Just words, although I haven’t forgiven him either. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere on this forum I have written to the Prime Minister, several times actually, about who is going to compensate me for the five figure sum in turnover that my holiday letting business lost when the government summarily stopped all short term property rentals, all cancelled at the stroke of a pen, or key, and the criteria for their support scheme excluded me from qualification, mainly because I am low income self employed. I know that I am fortunate enough that it wasn’t a disaster and we survived by scaling back on costs and being prudent. But other people were not so fortunate and many small businesses have gone to the wall. And it’s bloody annoying that the government ministers and their families and friends are racking in taxpayer money, which the government is ‘spaffing up the wall’ over the wall into their bank accounts while the taxpayers are out of pocket due to their policies.
As usual, especially with Labour, this has the “Ring of Insincerity”. Rank opportunism, and beneath the mealymouthed words lurks yet more repression, the application of terrorism from the State and all that we have had to date. Presumably this prat has been walking around with his mask over his eyes, as well as his mouth. Had he not been doing so, he might have perceived, with one pair of organs, the damage he apparently now recognises, and with the orifice beneath, said something about stopping it.
Stand by for the breathtaking “New Normal” of endless “vaccines”, face rags and all the other s**t that comes from these lacklustre people.
Bullseye!
This has been high treason by the Labour Party. Of the worst kind.
Not only directly hurting the people they’re supposed to represent, but also siding with an evil, murderous, psychopathic agenda.
Starmer, the former CPS director in charge when claims of Saville’s crimes were suppressed, on record in Parliament calling Telegram ‘the app of choice for extremists’, will be judged harshly by history.
I wish them a swift Pasok-ification.
Beyond Labour – the whole ‘tide is turning’ optimistic narrative is naive.
If you think all this infrastructure of oppression has been set in motion, with hundreds of thousands maimed and murdered, just to now hold back .. you are deluded. Continue to organise the Resistance, as you see fit, with renewed vigour.
Very well put.
If anything the Labour Party has been more treacherous than the Tory Party.
Labour have a mandate to oppose and they signally failed to apply that mandate. They are not entitled to ANY excuses. More MP’s from the Party of government spoke against the executive than Labour.
The desecration of Parliament and democracy sits squarely on the Labour Party. They no longer warrant a place in the body politic and their MP’s are nought but pointless drones.
Starmer = Trilateral Commission Operative – all we need to know .
No friend of the British people.
High bonkers.
Mark my words, this year will be worse financially than Convid was last year.
What a cheeky b’stard. He and his party have been voting for these measures and demanding more, harder, harsher measures. The Unions that support his party have been deliberately prolonging this, as has the media that supports them. Now suddenly he wants to make a bit of clear blue sea between labour and the mess they have fully contributed to.? Contemptable.
Neil,
Please have a look at new labours sisters in the USA.
Have a butches at http://www.theconservativetreehouse .com and look at a survey of democrap voters attitudes to us vaccine realists.
It is sad but not surprising that the majority would like us be in gaol.
It seems only yesterday that Kier said “why did Tory MPs vote to oppose basic safety measures?” I.e. plan B.
U-turn? Of course not.
“Cheeky Bastard” sums him up perfectly!
Nothing much decent in the Rotten Labour Party these days!
Covid-19 and Vaccine Observations From Pediatric Specialists | The Unity Project 50mins
Made the mistake of clicking the link, nothing is worth reading in full if it involves exposing oneself to the Mail website and the sidebar of shame.
Oh dear that sounds pompous…but I don’t care who has been ‘showing their curves’ recently and it’s VERY hard to un-see
The Sidebar of Shame is truly revolting, with its constant sleazy objectification of women.
It’s remarkable that it’s managed to survive this long – would seem an obvious target for the wokeists (and a fully justifiable target too, unlike many of the things they go after).
The sidebar of celebs and elite who have no fear of covid and travel the beaches of the world
Try reading the comments, they usually cheer me up.
I like the ‘sidebar of shame’.
Peachy Keir Starmer sets pulses racing in his translucent visor!
Hang on… Labour thugs have supported the draconian measures all the way. In fact they wanted hard-core measures brought in sooner, quicker, faster, greater – they can just get lost. They know the tide is turning and now seek to politically benefit from the change in attitudes. Honestly, have they no shame or do they have amnesia?
Definitely no shame – it’s pretty much an essential job requirement for any politician.
They have only looked at the polls and see the wind changing. Starmer still wearing his super shield?
Outside it has to be said.
I didn’t know he was a welder
Brass monkeys feeling the chill.
Neither did he.
You need protection when you’re a gas lighter.
How does he command any respect.
He doesn’t.
The first time I saw a Covid visor was a bloke on a bicycle wearing it at 45° (so useless anyway). He was full on lykra lout with all the gear except that he couldn’t also wear his cycle helmet that might have offered some genuine protection against a real and present danger.
It’s bolted on.
In a rational world, and without knowing who this was, any sane, moderately intelligent person would conclude that this guy was auditioning for a place in the bottom block.
The non-existent virus can’t go beneath the lower edge, nor go round the sides.
In a hundred years’ time children will look at these pictures and laugh.
Or cry.
Ah, changing their tune ( a complete 180 reversal, given they wanted to lockdown harder and longer) because they have detected a change in the wind direction, brought on, ironically by small independent media outlets (mainly of the political Right) showcasing the many and widespread lies and cover-ups of the MSM, big tech/business,WEF, civil servants, so-called medical and scientific ‘experts’ and politicians.
As bad as Boris and his government have been during COVID, Labour were far worse, because they effectively pushed the other groups to go further and harder on COVID with nothing to back up the policies (quite the opposite, in fact). That they too have been as hypocritical when it comes to flouting the laws they wished us to adhere to.
Of course, their narrative will now turn to the Green agenda of the WEF et al, which will take over from CVOID, including ‘climate lockdowns’ and swinging penalties (including on freedoms) on the average person but which don’t affect the great and good. Sound familiar?
Where’s todays update page?
its back now
Don’t believe a word from these mask wearing skumbags. They are just trying to attract sceptic votes.
Fat chance of that !
Read the full article, they are still talking jab the world, none of us are safe until we are all safe, etc, the utter dangerous nonsense coming from Lie/Con continues at warp speed.
Is the telling phrase here guarantee health support?
As in reeducation? Lefties in other countries are insisting on this.
Guarantee mental health support within a month? Are they going to emoy a load of ‘plastic’ counsellors as they did with the ‘plastic’ police pcsos who cost a fortune but are useful as a chocolate teapot?
If they want to improve peoples mental health they can fight for the mask and vaccine mandates to go, otherwise it’s the same usual hot air because they perceive a possible early GE in the air.
This is really an opportunity for the population to wake up to the tyranny that are state bureaucracies and the politicians that run them.
They mess everything up meddling in people’s lives and getting in their way and then steal your money to fix the problem they’ve created.
They are such contemptible scumbags who lack any awareness of how utterly destructive they are.
Instead of promising to spend money they don’t have to put in place programmes that will probably more harm than good – like with almost everything central planners do – how about just getting out of the way and letting people get on with their lives.
We don’t want your help, we can take responsibility for ourselves. Piss off.
Guarantee mental health support within a month? …. This is code for, if you refuse the jab you will be sectioned under the Mental Health Act .
The whole concept of ‘Mental health support’ is a fucking joke anyway – the mental health profession are a bunch of charlatans, shysters, bullshitters and hucksters who revel in having power over people, and are the modern-day incarnation of the snake-oil salesman – the only difference being that rather than eye of newt in a green glass bottle it’s now something with a long name in a blister pack from big pharma (which turns people into barely-functioning zombies).
Speaking from experience, I have to agree.
We know that the coronavirus is here to stay but, as Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, I don’t want to see our country in lockdown ever again. YOU and YOUR party ENTHUSIASTICALLY supported these measures and now you say this? While we should rejoice that a sinner has repented this all strikes me (and many others to judge from this forum) as mere weasel words. Are you going to press Johnson this week to remove ALL restrictions NOW, this week? A visit to a primary school in my constituency this week was a reminder that lockdowns come at a great cost. And it took a visit to a primary school for you to understand this? There have been NUMEROUS demonstrations over the past year each attended by tens of thousands (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of people all saying that Lockdowns were and are a catastrophic mistake. You ignored all of them. And how many of your constituents wrote to you pointing out the malicious damage in which YOU participated ? And what did you say to them? Children spent 155 days out of school on average over the past couple of years, but the impact on their learning, their wellbeing and… Read more »
Excellent post!
Well said
Too late.
But it’s not exactly “surrender”, is it? To me this just smells like a stealthy takeover by the authoritarian left. Perhaps no more “lockdowns” are their new credo, but the focus will just shift to other forms of authoritarianism like mandated vaccines, testing of asymptomatic people, vax passes (morphing into digital IDs), etc. Remember, the spokesperson indicated that the labour party would not “rule out” imposing restrictions in the emergence of OTHER VARIANTS (for goodness sake!).
And when the pandemic is well and truly over, and everyone admits it, there’s still good old “climate change” to fall back on as an excuse to retain “emergency powers” and keep people in line.
They’re trying to save face. Looks like we won’t be getting Nuremberg 2.0 after all…
We need to learn to live without Keir Starmer.
Try being one of the 3 million self-employed whose income was wiped away that day Johnson locked down. Then try living with the mental abuse and cruelty of watching ten million people paid £2500 a month to sit at home in the garden.
Then try living with being told you don’t exist by a smirking chancellor. Then try accepting that cunt could be the new PM.
Forgive? Never, if I saw him in real life I would knock the twat out
