Forcing Children to Wear Masks is Dystopian, Says Gruffalo Author Julia Donaldson

Forcing pupils to wear facemasks in the classroom is dystopian and critics should not be smeared as Covid-deniers, children’s author Julia Donaldson has said. The Times has the story.

The creator of The Gruffalo said that she feared the use of face coverings in schools was becoming normalised and that children’s education should not be “sacrificed” to protect the NHS.

Donaldson, 73, has written around 200 books, many of which have been adapted for television and stage. The Gruffalo has sold more than 13 million copies and been translated into more than 100 languages.

The former secondary school English teacher and former children’s laureate said: “Even if the current proposals are only for three weeks, this could be repeated and become something considered normal whenever there is infection, whereas in fact it should not be considered normal, it is alien – even dystopian.

“Children are children for such a short time, I don’t think they should be sacrificed like this.”

“They’re seen as a gesture that isn’t costing the government any money and as something that is not doing any harm. Because of the climate of fear, people have readily accepted something I regard as unacceptable, and that I fear may now be seen as a normal part of life.”

She told the Times that it was vital for teachers to be able to read pupils’ facial expressions during lessons and that many people were too scared to speak out against face masks in case of a social media backlash.

“There is too much polarity. It’s unfortunate that the start of Covid coincided with the US election,” she said. “People were equating any arguments against lockdown or masks with being a Republican or Trumpian.”

Donaldson, who has been left with a long-term Covid symptom called parosmia, which makes smells seem overpowering and food taste disgusting, said: “I’m very pro-vaccination. I’ve been triple-jabbed. I’ve had Covid. I’m not a denier.

“You don’t have to be right-wing [to oppose masks in schools]. I know a lot of people who are passionately anti-lockdown because they’re very sympathetic to the plight of lonely and vulnerable people or those with mental illness.”

The article notes that “a study used to justify the introduction of masks in English schools implied they had at best a marginal effect” and quotes the pro-lockdown scientist Dr Simon Clarke saying: “As the report points out, face coverings can become contaminated quickly, so repeated putting them on and taking them off, and touching them, could present an opportunity for viral transmission. Expecting children to wear them properly all day and to keep them clean is somewhat optimistic. An unwashed face covering worn daily will quickly become akin to wearing a dirty handkerchief across your face.”

When even the Times and lockdown fanatics are speaking out against an intervention, you know there’s something in the air.

Worth reading in full.

I can fix this first line for you:

Nor should those who are against MANDATORY Covid vaccines be maligned as “anti-vaxxers.” If nothing else, they should be referred to as “pro-personal choice.”

So while I appreciate this author’s brave comments, she still needs a little more education imo.

I appreciate her speaking out. This took a little courage as it will create pushback and cost her supporters or defenders, probably even future revenue.

The freedom to say what you think without being stoned should be a core value of every citizen of the world … and should not require any courage. It is sad and alarming that people like her are so rare in our “New Normal.”

You’re being somewhat naive here.

I don’t think he’s being naive at all.. in the aggressive cancel culture present today, for someone mainstream, a normie, to go against the grain, no matter how little, does take some guts..

We’ll never win anybody over by going full sceptic dogma on them. They need reeling in with patience and understanding..

Maybe so George…

However we’re going into the third year now of this New Normal totalitarianism… don’t you think it tragic that a whole generation of kids view this as how they self-identify… ?

It’s almost as if they’re being groomed for something…

Good for Julia Donaldson. It’s indicative of the moral bankruptcy of our population that stating the bleeding obvious and standing up for children has become an act of courage and defiance.

Javid has warned against not testing travellers with PCR tests because we’ll miss new variants.

These government psychos and their media buddies are never going to let this end.

The only thing that is going to become a distant memory is a normal life where your health and how you manage it is your business, not the government’s.

It is my business. The NHS is supposed to provide medical care to people who need it, not (mandatory) lifestyle advice to those who don’t. Every entity which routinely isn’t involved in providing medical care (which obviously includes stuff like administrating hospitals, coordinating acquisition of medicines etc) is just a parasite which self-attached to the NHS budget. The system itself as worked tolerably good for a long time. But the attached and semi-attached parasites have gone out of control.

A mouse went for a walk in the deep dark wood.
A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good.
“Where are you going to?” the fox dared to ask.
“And why aren’t you protected by a cheesecloth mask?”

“Mask?” said the mouse. “Why, didn’t you know?”
“Masks don’t protect you from a Gruffalo”

Or, perhaps…

A mouse took a walk through the deep dark wood.
An owl saw the mouse and the mouse looked good.

“Where are you going to, little brown mouse?”
“Come and have lunch in my treetop house”

“Thank you”, said mouse, “but I really must go.
I’m going to have lunch with a Gruffalo”.

“A Gruffalo? Then, why, may I ask?
Why are you not wearing a cheesecloth mask?

The Gruffalo’s breath makes a terrible stink.
Breathe it in and your health will be right on the brink!”

“A mask! A mask! Why, didn’t you know?Nothing stops the breath of a gruffalo!

Are you out of your mind, you crazy old owl?
Masks stop you breathing, they really are foul.

Now be gone! Go on, scarper! You’re no use to me!
Take your crappy advice right back to your tree!

I will eat healthy nuts, drink water, climb trees
I will live as I like, and do as I please.

I will breathe the fresh air, be happy and healthy
won’t wear a mask. Or make Big Pharma wealthy”.

A small clap for Donaldson coming out against at least part of the dystopian nightmare the left generally (as well as rather less of the right) has enthusiastically supported. When she says the same about the panic-based coercion of treatment with an experimental therapy dishonestly called a “vaccine”, in response to a disease that couldn’t in a million years have amounted to an emergency justifying such radical policies, then she can truly regard herself as informed.

I’m guessing that she is retired, and has no books coming out shortly.

Otherwise she could not be so brave as to disagree with the establishment…

Slightly off-thread, But I see that the name of a school ‘house’ has been changed from J K Rowling’s to some other ‘hero’ – a female Olympic athlete, I think.

Trouble is, that athlete also has a track record of complaining about ‘trans’ competitors in women’s sports…

Yes, the term ”female athlete” will soon be outdated.

“I’m very pro-vaccination. I’ve been triple-jabbed. I’ve had Covid. I’m not a denier”.

Donaldson doesn’t make sense. If she’s had Covid, why was she vaccinated. If she had Covid after vaccination then she should know that the vaccines don’t work.

Good agent, Julia Donaldson has got.

Then don’t talk about dystopia, love.

What might be coming with pi or rho or sigma:

  • only “vaccinated” pupils allowed to be mask-free;
  • “unvaccinated” pupils either not allowed in to school, or made to wear masks

We did our Rebels at Roundabouts today. It was pretty depressing at times as we’re starting to get some really aggressive, nasty responses which I put down to fear, as the the signs we display, trigger a something in their heads that something isn’t right. But we’ve had some really good reactions from the school kids regarding the masks and jabs. They’re the ones actually willing to listen, once you get passed the conditioning. I’m really holding out for them.

From today’s Off Guardian…”But there’s something else quite sinister about these masks. Not only do they make everyone look the same. They make us look like we have Pig snouts. Imagine our masters, partying with their beautiful surgically improved faces, whilst they are served by pig’s!…
Time to recognise the mask mandate for what it is, an exercise in control and subjugation!

Forcing kids to wear masks for extended periods of time or at all is plain and simple child abuse. That is a crime and those enforcing it should be arrested, immediately.

Banjones

When someone says the words ”I’ve had covid” alongside ”I’ve been triple jabbed” it doesn’t imply much in the way of critical thinking or sensible research.

Still, she’s on the side of the children, and that’s what really counts.

I’m glad Julia Donaldson has spoken out. Although I am of the view, no-one should be wearing masks unless in very specific situations. (The evidence suggests that masks may play a role in infection transmission in hospital theatres so their use in hospital settings is questionable). However, I am intrigued, what is a pro-vaxxer? Is it someone who has had every vaccine going? Children in the US are mandated to be vaccinated against 17 diseases (67 jabs). I didn’t even know that there were 17 diseases that children were at risk of catching. And I’m sure there are other diseases for which there are vaccines available. So I guess pro-vaxxers have every single vaccine going. If not are they refusing vaccines. Are they in fact secret ‘anti-vaxxers’? We should be told.
