One in Six New York City Public Servants Remain Unvaccinated After Friday’s Mandatory Vaccination Deadline
One in six New York City public employees, which include those working within law enforcement and the fire department, have yet to receive the first dose of a Covid vaccine after the deadline for adhering to the city’s vaccination mandate closed yesterday. Those still unvaccinated will be put on unpaid leave starting from tomorrow, with the city expecting a shortage of workers to place a strain on public services. The Guardian has the story.
Despite opposition to the city’s vaccine mandate fuelled by right wing politicians and media and leading to a protest at City Hall this week, a last-minute rush of jabs boosted the vaccination rate to 83% among police officers, firefighters, garbage collectors and other city workers covered by the mandate as of 8pm on Friday.
That was up from 76% a day earlier.
Workers who have not complied with the requirement will be put on unpaid leave starting on Monday, leaving the city bracing for the possibility of closed firehouses, fewer police and ambulances and mounting trash.
Vaccination rates for the fire and sanitation departments jumped significantly on Friday as workers rushed to meet the deadline for the mandate and an extra incentive: workers who got a shot by Friday would get $500.
The fire department rate rose 8% and the sanitation department saw an additional 10% of its staff vaccinated, according to city data. The fire and sanitation departments each have 23% of staff unvaccinated.
The NYPD had a 5% jump in vaccinations on Friday, leaving 16% of police personnel yet to get a dose.
City officials have been weighing contingencies to deal with an expected staffing shortfall.
The Fire Department said it was prepared to close up to 20% of its companies and have 20% fewer ambulances in service while changing schedules, cancelling vacations and turning to outside EMS providers to make up for expected staffing shortages.

Do this, cos if you don’t you will lose your job is not coercion in la la land
They actually call it coercion. They just claim coercing people to do something is not the same as forcing them to do it because it’s based on indirect application of power. That’s akin to stating they pressuring someone into handing over his purse by threatening to hurt his wife is not robbery as he was free to ignore the threat.
Calling the Covidians scum sometimes seems to be too much of compliment.
US Transportation Sec admits supply chain issues are all about vaxxing.

“Those still unvaccinated will be put on unpaid leave starting from tomorrow, with the city expecting a shortage of workers to place a strain on public services.”
Tough on New Yorkers who have paid all their City taxes, expecting the same level of service.
I hope the first building to go up in flames will be ~City Hall!
How can this not be illegal. Forcing someone’s hand like this (or arm, as the case may be) is not only immoral and evil but, surely, against the law.
Totally agree. But as I have commented on numerous occasions, where the hell are the public rights lawyers, why are they all sitting on their hands? At least DeSantis in Florida is now suing Biden regarding mandated jabs.
Time will tell, has to be challenged in court, that can’t really happen until the government’s next move after the deadline. It’s the worlds largest game of chicken,
Law? Law? How quaint!
“Despite opposition to the city’s vaccine mandate fuelled by right wing politicians and media”
So anyone objecting to mandatory vaxxines IS considered right wing?
Anyone not toeing the Grauniad’s left wing bilge is considered a _____ (select from list…. sexist, misogynist, racist, homophobe, transphobe, climate denier, science denier, anti vaxxers, KKK member, slave trader)
I wish the worst of the worst to happen to every fuck stain that enables and supports The Guardian’s agenda including it’s staff. I used to believe init once upon a time – it’s now worse than The Sun, Daily Mail and Express combined. Anyone that supports it via its subscription model should hang their heads in shame. Let it burn.
Well, don’t expect much sanity or decency or honesty from the bulk of the left-wing – with a few honourable exceptions, including a few here!
Believing in individual rights is the new fascism.
Typical of the cunts at the Gates bitch paper
‘fuelled by right wing politicians and media’
The message is simple. Anyone who takes the poison is intelligent, informed and did the right thing. Those who refused are swamp dwellers
The ‘media’ ha!!!. When did they ever publish a sceptic point of view
When this is over everyone writing crap like this must be made to work in the fields for 20 years
We know who you are
They seem to have devised a way to turn ‘some people might get covid and die if everyone’s not vaxed’ into ‘a number of people are definitely going to die because we’ve deliberately arranged for the emergency services to be even further understaffed for the foreseeable future’.
One can only hope that those who die will understand the attitude of the authorities that led to their avoidable deaths.
But it would have been a worse death if being cared for by an unvaccinated doctor.
So, 23% of fire-service staff and 16% of police in NY are now up-for-grabs by employers looking to recruit employees with some sense.
Not good news for what’s left but it is one way of sorting the wheat from the chaff.
Maybe it would get the NHS etc sorted out too
De Santis has offered them a job in Florida, extended the one offered to their compatriots in Chicago.
If the non injected can hold out there is a possibility that the city will eventually implode.
But the serfs will be the victims, not the barons.
Maybe the police will be unable to stop the mob burning down De Blasio’s house. Maybe there’ll be no firefighters available to quench the flames.
I wonder how this will pan out legally in a country where you can get sued for looking at someone a bit funny .I dont think they have thought this through prpoperly
Perhaps there will soon be an executive federal diktat that lawyers are not allowed to represent unjabbed.
Americans leading the resistance, great stuff. Airlines cancelling flights is just the beginning. The false edifice is starting to crumble.
Resist, resist, resist.
“…workers who got a shot by Friday would get $500.”
If you have to pay someone to submit to a safe and effective injection that will protect them from a deadly disease, then either the injection is neither safe nor effective or the disease isn’t as deadly as claimed. Or both. Talk about selling your inheritance for a pottage of lentils.
“And what do I get if this totally safe clot-shot cripples me?”
all they need is the ability to sue the jab manufacturer if they fall ill after being jabbed.
…
Meanwhile American Airlines have cancelled 1500 flights for Halloween.
Mmm🤔🤔🤔
It’s the weather!!!
except strangely other airlines are unaffected!
Nuremburg Code being burned right in front of the entire world and, tumbleweeds from human rights groups.
It’s more what you’d call guidelines than actual rules.
Oh, the “opposition to the mandate (is) fueled by right wing politicians and media?” I thought it arose from lots of horrible adverse reactions being observed by lots of people. Leave it to the msm to get it wrong every time.
It’s not police or fire where this will be felt worse. It’s rubbish collection. Around a quarter of their employees didn’t get jabbed, and beyond being unionized so they can’t just demand more OT, NYC is always a few missed days from total garbage chaos, rats included. Why do this? Because, um, we know what’s better for you than you do. Each person should be able to freely choose what goes into their body. Strange concept I know but, a good one.
People – especially the well off and comfortable journos – always overlook basic stuff like rubbish collection.
Like Glsgow City Council can’t deal with the rats (due to Mrs Thatcher).
Well, looking on the bright side, the rats will provide an additional source of protein when they ban the consumption of beef, etc.
I was in the canteen at work a few weeks ago, and one of the double-jabbed contingent said, “I wonder if you can refuse to work with someone who’s not vaccinated?”. That’s the level of brainwashing that’s gone on, when they don’t see what the problem is with discriminating against their colleagues on ‘vaccination’ status. In fact, they relish it.
The stupidity of this mindset is brilliantly satirised by US comedian JP Sears in his ‘Why wearing life jackets should be mandatory’ on YouTube (awakenwithJP).
Did you report them for the crimethink of believing that their clot-shots wouldn’t protect them?
“My jab does not work unless you get yours too”.
I think the figure for refusniks is higher than one in six. Those who make statements like this have a proven track record of lying.
Those who refused are likely clued up enough to know the danger sof the jab and the likelihood off becoming unvaxxed if they go for a last minute jab but refuse future booster shots.
One way of eliminating any remaining independent thinkers from the bureaucracy.
When the possibility of mandatory vaccination raised its head many months ago (when UK politicians were still insisting they would not be mandatory), I did at least comfort myself with the “certainty” that the US, with its celebration of individual freedom, would never let that happen and we in the UK would have to follow their example. To my amazement, that’s not how it’s panned out.
’Right wing’ – the Guardian and other leftie luvvies (I used to be one) cannot see that the world has moved beyond Left/Right politics. The split now is between tyranny and liberty.
Well done those men and women taking a stand at personal expense.
I salute you all.
Whenever I read a story like the Guardian one, on the percentage of workers in this or that area jumping dramatically after a mandate, i have to wonder how much of the increase is due to more vaccinations (increasing the numerator), and how much is due to workers who won’t get vaccinated quitting (lowering the denominator).
Not only do you have to get the jab to keep your job – NYC will give you $500!
What a slap in the face for the poor sheeple who lined up for the initial jab sessions!
They should be protesting outside City Hall saying, ‘Where is our $500? We were first in line – why don’t we get the same bonus?’
I would, if I were one of them. Clearly discrimination!
”… have yet to receive the first dose….” Sneaky weasel words there. Deliberately chosen to suggest that it IS only a matter of time before they do – rather than the fact that they’ve probably decided they DO NOT WANT ”the first dose” or any dose thereafter.
