And Finally…

In the latest episode of London Calling, James Delingpole and I rage about the decision to vaccinate kids, lament the weaponisation of Emma Raducanu by culture warriors, celebrate Stanley Tucci’s victory over Meghan Markle in last night’s Emmy Awards, wonder if Boris Johnson is just a fat version of Tony Blair and share our fear of being recognised at the supermarket check-out counter — although most strangers who approach us are very nice.

Went to my local Asda today – got a few items and then went to the self-checkout – as I was scanning my few items I suddenly saw my ugly mug looking back at me on a small screen on the self-checkout machine – they have cameras on the self-checkouts now.

I won’t be shopping at Asda anymore.

Ha – I must try that: should break a camera or two!

They have been in my local Asda for quite a while now.

They also have the CCTV screen in the entrance foyer using image recognition technology, which puts a square around the heads of the unmuzzled as they appear in the doorway.

If I happen to notice it I “scratch my forehead” with my middle finger – some might mistake it for some sort of offensive gesture…

Now imagine them docking you social security points out of your (centralised) digital money wallet if you purchase red meat or heaven forbid, more than 6 eggs a week.

Was hoping for an entertaining Delingpole/Young exchange on the Independent’s latest attempt to cancel Gove with some offence archaeology.

Revealed: Michael Gove’s sexist, racist and homophobic speeches

A few years ago I’d have defended Gove, but frankly since he’s likely to skate on the moral crimes and harmful misfeasance he’s undoubtedly been involved in during the period of the covid panic, any negative consequences he suffers cannot possibly be as much as he deserves.

If ASDA do it, you can bet that the rest of em do too.
