Government Presses on With Vaccine Passport Plans
Depressingly, the Government has decided to press ahead with its plans to introduce vaccine passports for nightclubs and other crowded indoor venues in England from the end of next month in spite of the now overwhelming evidence that being double jabbed doesn’t prevent you catching COVID-19 or passing it on. The Guardian has more.
Downing Street has said the Government will press ahead with plans to introduce vaccine passports for nightclubs and other crowded indoor venues in England from the end of next month.
Boris Johnson’s official spokesperson was asked on Tuesday about reports suggesting ministers could back away from the proposal in the face of objections from Conservative MPs, but said there was no change to the policy.
“We set out broadly our intention to require vaccination for nightclubs and some other settings. We will be coming forward in the coming weeks with detail for that,” he said.
The requirement is meant to come into effect at the end of September and will be based on use of the existing NHS app, which allows users to generate proof of vaccination.
Asked whether the prime minister remained 100% committed to the plan, the spokesperson said: “Yes, there is no change in our position.”
Johnson first put forward the idea in July, days after clubs and other venues were allowed to reopen.
He said: “We are planning to make full vaccination the condition of entry to nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather. Proof of a negative test will no longer be sufficient.”
At the time, keen to encourage young people to get the jab, the government even refused to deny that pubs and other venues could be included; but Johnson’s spokesperson said there were no plans to expand it to other venues.
Ministers hoped barring vaccine-sceptics from busy nightspots would help to increase vaccine uptake among young people, but the plan prompted a backlash from Conservative backbenchers concerned about the impact on civil liberties.
Labour has also expressed concerns, suggesting a system that included Covid testing alongside vaccination would be a better approach, since fully vaccinated individuals can still catch and pass on the virus.
If Keir Starmer’s party declined to support the vaccine passports plan, the government could face defeat in the House of Commons, with some Conservative rebels suggesting up to 40 colleagues would be willing to vote against it.
Some backbenchers have also suggested they could boycott the Tory party conference in October if vaccination is made a condition of entry.

Of coures the vax passports will expire. In 5-6 months. In Germany they are valid for 1 year only by default, but I doubt very much they will accept them for that long. This having to “renew” the passport will hopefully make the population aware of how much they have been duped, but my hopes are low.

The rationale is to get people used to the idea that from now on they will need various permissions (stored in their “smart” phones no less) for various kinds of activities. The checking of the permissions will be streamlined further no doubt (when the personal ID is stored on the shitphone contactless entry gates will replace the people who are supposed to confirm your authorization). In further perspective, expect a friendly AI to bar you from entering a supermarket etc. and another friendly AI to dole out score which decides what you are allowed to do on a particular day to remain compliant with climate-saving laws.

You are making an assumption that if a person has had a vaccination that they automatically support the concept of “vaccinated only venues”. That attitude is just as reprehensible. I have had two doses of AstraZeneca in the spring because there was an opinion that I was vulnerable due to age, sex and co morbidities. Does this mean I support the concept of vaccinated only venues, absolutely not. This is for several reasons, mainly that it’s unnecessary, we have never insisted on people proving they have either had a disease or have been vaccinated against it, and some of those disease carry a much higher risk in the younger age groups than SARS-CoV-2 ever will.

I know vaxxed people who don’t support vaccine passports and probably wouldn’t ever use their vaxxed status to gain access to anything, I know vaxxed people who do support vaccine passports, and I know vaxxed people who don’t support vaccine passports as such but got vaxxed to allow them do things e.g. holiday and given that they do/will exist, they will use their status if it benefits them. Those are the ones we need to win over, but it’s an ask.

Even if I am ever coerced into taking this vaccine, I would as a matter of principle try to avoid going anywhere that requires me to show a vaccine passport because it will represent an act of submission to this tyranny. As I just noted on another thread: there are many ways to take a stand on principle, if you have the character to do so. The restaurant manager I had an exchange with – accused me of wanting him to ‘close down and throw all his staff out of work.’ I told him I’d settle for him publicly expressing his restaurant’s objection to the policy and joining a lawsuit opposing it with other restaurants.
It is his choice not to do that – and my choice to therefore view him as a boot-licking lickspittle, no?

In Germany the “choice” is between 3G (= accept tested people, but with 1/3 capacity and mandatory masks) and 2g (= accept only vaccinated and recovered people, but with much less “hygiene”). It’s obvious that for purely economic reasons 3G is not a viable choice. And so it is greatly “supported” by those venues which do not wish to just close shop. Pretty much like you would support any individual who holds a gun to your head.
This is already happening at some theaters, no vaccine no entry. Also some recent live outdoor gigs have insisted on this.

Since the 11pm closing time was ditched a few years ago it’s been the death of clubs anyway as you can just be a pub/bar with a late license and a DJ in the corner.
Hopefully young people just flock to these and other nighttime establishments, gigs, raves, house parties, lock-ins, casinos, festivals etc. And the few empty nightclubs will regret backing this.

With four weeks of potential jabbing still to go before the “passport” comes in, you wouldn’t expect the government to admit at this point that it isn’t going to happen would you? Fingers crossed for the rug to be pulled at the last minute. Each day, new evidence appears about the vaccines which undermines the very idea of passports.
Of course, the same loophole with clot shots is available as with masks. Anyone can self-exempt without being asked for proof that they can’t be tested/be jabbed but of course most people won’t be aware of this because it just won’t be advertised.
I remember last year asking for risk assessments on mask wearing and none was ever forthcoming. If we asked for risk assessments about vaccines, I doubt if they’d be forthcoming either. The government wants businesses to do its dirty work.
