Is This Hands-Free, Virus-Scanning Workplace the Future of the Office?
A good deal of companies are telling their staff to continue working from home, but even those workers who do return to the office could find that their surroundings are not quite as they once were. This, at least, is the hope of some Bucharest designers who have implemented almost 150 ‘Covid-free’ measures in a new office design, including hands-free door handles and thermal body cameras, which they hope to see being adopted by office planners around the world. The Guardian has the story.
Entering H3, a five-storey building in a western neighbourhood of the Romanian capital, is like learning the steps to a new dance. A flick of the wrist opens the door, and a red line marks the spot at which to stand from where a thermal body camera two metres away scans arrivals for signs of fever. Those who are ‘green-lighted’ can follow the tracks to the self-clean lift, step on one of two foot pads and be transported through the building, safe in the knowledge that a UV lighting disinfection system installed in the ventilation shafts is keeping them infection-free between floors.
Anyone whose head flashes red on the screen, however, is whisked away by a plastic-gloved ‘immune steward’ into a nearby quarantine room: a glass box with a panic button and its own internal ventilation system shut off from the rest of the building. A ‘Viruskiller’ apparatus on the wall, boasting three levels of fan strength, promises to remove anything nasty such as pollutants, mould or spores that may be infecting the air, with back up provided by a sanitising UV light on the wall.
This view of the future may alarm some. Modelled on hospital technology, is this sanitised environment a place to which employees will want to return once the pandemic is considered sufficiently under control? In Romania, just as elsewhere in Europe, the majority of office workers were confined to home for much of the past 18 months. Surveys show many are nervous about the prospect of coming back.
“The point is to reassure them. We don’t want people to panic,” says Gavin Bonner, one of the main coordinators behind the Immune building standard project, which has brought together health professionals, architects, engineers, IT and building managers from around the world to help corporations prepare for post-pandemic life.
The publicly available standard, trademarked Immune, has already been applied to several buildings in the U.K. Its developers include the leading Romanian property company Genesis, also the H3 landlord, and the project has cost about €1 million (£850,560). More than a dozen other buildings, from the U.S. to Singapore, are in the process of obtaining their Immune certification, according to Liviu Tudor, the CEO of Genesis. The H3 building, as the most protected space so far, acts as the showroom, incorporating all 135 of the recommended measures.
The project is open source “in an effort to pool the best ideas”, says Tudor, who has lodged an application with the E.U. in the hope it will form the basis for a new standard across the bloc, similar to conventional fire safety codes. It embraces everything from technological innovation and scientific knowledge to workplace psychology, he says, and he hopes it will embolden both employers and employees, millions of whom are now engaged in an intense conversation about whether it is safe to return to the office – and if so, how.

Nah, don’t think I’ll bother giving The Grauniad clicks.
How about linking to RT News for decent media coverage for a change.
Or even Al Jazeera.
Al Beeb, Grauniad, Daily Fail. Gets a bit boring after a while.
No one I know is or was nervous about returning to the office, and I include some fully paid up corona-panic simpletons in this, spanning a wide variety of employment sectors. This is just more psyops drivel from our turgid MSM to wind people up with.
Well, I’d be nervous faced with all that pseudo science. I certainly wouldn’t feel “safe”.
Sounds awful.

Informative video, odd voice-over though. Unsure if it is someone amusingly pretending to be a synthesized voice, or actually a synthesized voice.
Yes, his videos are weird. Can’t make out if it’s a synthesised voice. Quite annoying.
Healthiest family we knew lived of a farm, shared the kitchen with chickens, often to be found on the table and had to be swept off in order to eat a meal.
Maybe they were exceedingly lucky to avoid infections or maybe the constant low level infection built up their immune systems and protected them.
What do you think?
“Yo gotta ate a peck o dirt afower yoam a dyin”
Black country dialect for herd immunity.
“You have got to build up natural resistance to infections.”
Would suspect the constant low level, no way are you going to not encounter pathogens living that way, so they must have encountered them and got their immune systems well trained. Would be good to try to get a wide enough number of families both living like this and living in as close to a sterile bubble as they’ve terrorised themselves in to and compare frequency of troublesome infections between the two groups, with enough people in both groups that you can adjust for any other differences between individuals. Might be statistically significant proof for the “hygiene hypothesis”. Unfortunately we might also see proof for the hygiene hypothesis soon, in fact have begun to already, with children getting measurably sick more often as a consequence of having spent 18 months being taught to shun all that is “dirty”.
There’s going to be an increase in allergies and illnesses. The south American Incas (?) were decimated when faced with what was to them a new virus.
Always understood that a background exposure to real life infections improved our resilience, don’t know where I got this impression from, other than “Common Knowledge”? At the beginning of the COVID19 panic I decided to ignore all the Government’s edicts and carry on as normal, even in the face of possible criminal charges. Up to now I’ve been fairly successful in this path having spent our normal Xmas with Grandchildren (6 off) and Birthdays etc etc etc. Stopped bothering with OCD hand washing about a year ago, never stopped shopping and avoided the Mask as much as possible. When a Mask was unavoidable only covered my mouth, I breath via my Nose which is reckoned to be a good filter in itself. Not afraid of the post and do NOT sanitise it before touching it. Same goes for the Shopping etc. And “Stay Home” or “Shield”, — kindly FUCK off!!! Recently I became aware of a booklet published in 2013 (aka 6 BCov) by the often maligned Dr Sunetra Gupta – “Pathogens in One Lesson”, which totally supports my uninformed opinions! Thanks Dr Gupta. My mantra is “Don’t FUCK with my immune system. Let it do it’s thing developed over… Read more »
Absolutely brilliant to see Australians finally rising up against their tyrannical governments – thousands storming and overwhelming the police lines – big crowds shouting – “YOU SERVE US!”
Fantastic to see – this medical tyranny does not end until we say it does.
Well done to all my Australian friends and family out there who I know are at there wits end right now with these endless lockdowns and restrictions which they describe as like being in a prison camp or under some military dictatorship- relatives whom I have not seen for two years now have had enough – they have finally decided that the only avenue they have left is to fight back against these cowardly bullies in government who are absolutely drunk on power – and when this is finally finished (which it will be) many want to see trials and the most severest sentences handed down to these little dictators responsible for crimes against humanity.
We will succeed and we will never surrender to these jumped up little dictators.
Well done the people of Australia we are proud of you!
Can you link to some coverage of where the polcie get overwhelmed. i saw some headlines this morning but they were only as things were starting off.
Police never get overwhelmed. They have all the resources of the state, paid for by the people they oppress. They might get caught on the hop for a short time but it’s never long before another van load of tooled up goons arrives.

Putting exaggerated measures in place doesn’t make people feel safer. It indulges their irrational fears and makes them MORE fearful, not less.
Behind all these stupidities are companies capitalising on fear while claiming to be trying to make people feel safer.
Exactly. That’s the point.

I’ll stay at home. If this is so necessary then surely it will be rolled out in every single public building on earth. I can’t see it catching on with the majority.
Someone buy the Guardian a calendar. This has to be an April fool’s feature.
There are idiots out there who will pay premiums to get a building with all this bullsh*t built in as opposed to simply tolerating that coughs sometimes happen. Not that all this bullsh*t will actually stop diseases spreading, but coronanists are easy to market to, all the seller has to do is play on their fears.
“The point is to reassure them. We don’t want people to panic…”
All I can say is that going to such ridiculous lengths over a mild virus which is now endemic gives the hypochondria minded MORE reason to panic (genuine panic, induced by real fear despite there being nothing to be scared of), and gives the little Hitlers good reason to pretend to panic (fake panic, acted out as a way of getting mroe opportunities to inform on an grass up those around them).
If you actually want to make the ONE difference which can reduce viral spread, not that reducing it is in any way crucial, open the f***ing windows. A good cold wind does everyone a world of good, and keeps you feeling a lot fresher than recirculated air from ventilation pipes however heavily sanitised those fashion* obsessed architects may get.
*coronapanicing seems to have very much become a fashion item, why else the constant virtue signalling among the gullible
and the mask have become virtue-signaling fashion accessories too. Oh, BARF
Slightly odd in a country that has rejected vaccinations by over 70% and forced the government to back off of Covid passes.
Still maybe they are just cleverly cashing in on all the Covid bedwetters elsewhere.
Err, just eff off Gavin you’re just trying to manufacture a need where there is none.
the useless temperature scanners at our work entrances are bad enough. Who doesn’t know they have a fever and feel like crap? Come-onnn. The only people who’d purposely come in to work with a fever are those that don’t get paid otherwise. Namely, temps and contract workers (and there’s a fix for that – pay them to stay home when they’re sick). I hold my bag in front of my head when I walk in. I just biked in 45 minutes, I don’t have a g-d fever ffs. I don’t sanitize anything except on occasion my cell phone, and shopping cart handles because those are always disgusting. We’re still on the same box of sanitizer wipes from last January. I dig in the dirt after work and I eat stuff out of the garden just brushing the dirt off. My German grandmother used to say “bisschen dreck mitfressen schadet nix” (eating a little dirt won’t hurt). This over sanitizing-dirt-avoiding insanity has gone way too far.
The only thing that makes me concerned about returning to the office is the hysteria of Covid-obsessed colleagues and unions and the ridiculous masks and other measures that have been put in place to appease them. I understand, for example, that half the already inadequate lavatories have been closed.
I will go back to a normal environment or not at all.
What utter Bollox! Why is DS providing publicity and credence to this complete nonsense? There will always be parasitic opportunists taking full advantage of the Psyop-generated terror of the brainmulched masses.
This just continues the insanity and ramps it up a few notches so we have completely paranoid office workers quaking every time they go to work. This would be the start and then maybe anyone flashing red would be whisked off to a secure contamination-containment room for 10 days, which would include a desk, toilet and bed so they can carry on working. Please, enough with normalising this stuff. We already know more about the nature of this virus and the vaccines and they’re not exactly bubonic plague. Typical Guardian though, spreading the nonsense.
And while I’m on a roll (and a rant), I would like to mention the latest ‘halo’ image that people adopt on their Facebook profile pictures that says “I have a healthy distrust of authority and I’m vaccinated“. What a complete and utter load of codswallop! If you have a ‘healthy distrust of authority’, you don’t get ‘vaccinated’. Very simple really.
Nothing to worry about here – just another scammer who has managed to siphon out some public money for his “research project” (aka salary).
Sorry, this is just bloody scary!!! Create a problem to offer an expensive solution which organisations must subscribe to no doubt. wouldn’t mind, but the ‘solution’ is more likely to scare folk who weren’t previously bothered!
My grandfather would never have believed we would get CCTV in offices. We’ve ow been injured to that for years. This sort of crap could easily become the accepted norm sooner or later.
