“You’d Have to be Crackers to Book a Holiday”

A raging battle has erupted in the Cabinet over plans for a danger list of countries that could see destinations like Spain and Italy suddenly move to red. MailOnline has more.

The plans for a new ‘amber watch list’ sparked outrage in Whitehall as some ministers believe it could ruin the holiday hopes of millions of Britons.

The idea, which was agreed in principle this week, would see holidaymakers warned that while they are abroad certain amber countries could go straight on to the red list.

This would leave them facing compulsory hotel quarantine on their return, at a cost of £1,750 a head.

Spain and Italy both featured in talks about countries that could be put into the new category – as soon as next week – amid fears about the Beta variant, which first emerged in South Africa.

Senior ministers, including Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Chancellor Rishi Sunak, are said to have reservations about imposing further disruption on the beleaguered travel sector.

Mr Shapps urged people to “ignore speculation” ahead of decisions next week. But behind the scenes a battle is raging.

One Whitehall source said: “You would have to be crackers to book a holiday to a place knowing that it could go on to the red list at any moment.

“If you have already booked to go there you are going to spend your whole holiday worrying whether you are going to have to make a dash to the airport to get home.

“The decision next week will basically be in place for August. It is peak holiday season – are we really going to cause that much disruption to this many people?”

Oh fuck, save us! Not another graph of ‘CASES’!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

… and the stupid bastards haven’t even read their own primer – the pandemic strategy, which implicitly ridicules idiots who believe in travel restrictions.

Of course, the basic problem we now have is that the stupidos who elected the devious clowns in the first place will lap it up like a cat returning to its sick.

With any luck, they’re taking all necessary steps to be booted out. Pity the fixed term parliament hasn’t been repealed.

In other news, I see that the Johnsons are doing their Green bit for overpopulation. I didn’t realise that “The Omen” was the prequel for the Johnson tyranny.

How many children will that be? I don’t think Boris knows for sure. I thought he was into population reduction. Oh well, doesn’t apply to him does it. We saw how it was one rule for them and one rule for us at the G7 conference.

For goodness sake, stop reposting more ‘case’ drivel from the MailOnline! It’s never “worth reading in full“. At least with the printed Daily Mail, you can wipe your arse on it.

If it’s endemic in every country, closing borders is even more futile than it has been up to now. Unless you get in early like Australia and New Zealand (I”m being ironic about that).

Why are sceptics playing along with the ‘cases’ deception?

I don’t want to seem dismissive in any way to real problems, but currently I am sitting in a country that not only stops people coming into its borders but also is doing its damnest to stop people leaving it.
But, at the same time I am currently sitting with 3 viable options for leaving it to a country that is supposedly a ‘no go’ from schengen, UK etc , with one of those options requiring no vaccines and one antigen test. One antigen test to return ( and only then , to be on the safe side).
As well as this I have found that some airlines are being very helpful regarding their flexibility/extension of tickets etc. They don’t want to go out of business so their policies are reflecting this. Indeed I would go as far as to say, if your cash flow will allow, its a good time to ‘bank’ future flight opportunities as the prices are unlikely to go much lower, and there is up to 3yrs extension on tickets.
Its time to play these buggers at their own game!

Greece is one of those. Can leave with no test if vaccinated or an antigen if not.
They’ll screen 1 per group on arrival at the airport.
Returning requires an antigen test (free) pre flight and if vaccinated 1 PCR test. If not, 2 PCRs and islation.

There are plenty of “getting out” options that aren’t difficult, expensive or necessarily vaccinated.

Simple fact is that none of the major holiday destinations can ever go red. They do not have the quarantine hotel capacity so amber plus will be the worst they can muster.

This.
They might invent an “Amber Watch” to create the uncertainty to stop people booking but they’ll never move them to Red.

The entire travel traffic light policy has been about deterring travel by making it too impractical or risky to do for most people.
Thats why we’ve seen the common destinations cycle from green to amber in turn. Create just enough chaos and uncertainty that most people are dissuaded from going.

We know France was given quarantine due to Beta variant cases 6000 miles from France. The equivalent of blocking the UK due to an outbreak in the Falklands. They’re not even pretending its science based any more.

The entire scheme is to prevent travel by increasing uncertainty whilst pretending all is OK.

To be fair, France thoroughly deserves a total boycott of all goods and services.

Their seriously nasty ‘President’ completely blockaded this country in late December (on truly preposterous ‘grounds’ that were clearly politically motivated). This was an action just below an act of war. Not long after, the insect known as MacWrong threatened a Crown Dependency with an energy blockade.

And these are just two of his many, many completely unjustified hostile acts towards the UK.

France should be shunned by all until its vile ‘President’ and his fellow authoritarians are either booted out or change their attitude towards the UK.

France is just somewhere you have to fly over on the way to somewhere nice.

I loathe the country and Macron. I generally boycott anything i can find from there if i have any choice at all and would certainly never visit.

Id like it red listed purely just so we can point and laugh and it’d make the jumped up little turd Macron angry. Nothing to do with covid though.

The problem is Boris seems to love him.

Well said.

And I agree that Johnson is far, far too diplomatic.

MacWrong is clearly a seriously bad person and openly hostile towards a major customer, substantial benefactor (it was quite absurd that while we were a province of the European Empire, our per capita net contributions were hugely higher than theirs, despite comparable wealth levels) and massive employer of their self-inflicted surplus labour pool.

The spite and ingratitude are truly staggering and the only way to get the message across is a total boycott.

I say this with something of a heavy heart as I have had many, many very positive interactions with the locals in various places over several decades – excluding Paris, of course! There are lots of admirable French people. Alas, none have any power.

Oh, nearly forgot to mention, also I lived there for a while some years ago….

Come on, that’s quite a racist statement there. Let’s be civil here. There are good people there and it’s a beautiful country, just a shame it is run by people who want to belittle us but that could also be another of the ill-thought out bonkers Brexit, the gift that keeps on taking…

For God’s sake, how much longer do we have to put up with this nonsense?? The clowns in government, the Keystone Cops of politics, are so bloody useless and cowardly, they’d jump at their own shadows. It’s is so patently clear that we’re all being had for fools. It’s painful watching my country implode, run by would-be tyrants and see our freedoms frittered away for some total w*nker’s wet dream of control…

It’s blatantly obvious that these ministers and their advisors are deliberately trying to disrupt people’s holidays and cause as much chaos and stress as possible.
This little game they are playing is nothing to do with the virus, it’s a psychological battering ram designed to demoralise families and wreak livelihoods. They don’t want you to have fun, they want you locked down and controlled.

Correct, none of this since 23rd March 2020 has had anything to do with a disease with which we can quite adequately cope. The NHS is run by incompetent buffoons who couldn’t organise the proverbial. This is all about surveillance and control and thus taking all our hard earned freedoms away. Makes you want to split blood. Bastards all of them.
