Ivermectin: Oxford University to Trial Promising, Easily Available Drug as Early Treatment for COVID-19

The Principle trial at the University of Oxford has selected Ivermectin for inclusion in its study of repurposed drugs for treatment of COVID-19. It will be given to people with Covid symptoms to see if it can keep them out of hospital. The BBC has the story.

The Principle study will compare those given the drug to patients receiving the usual NHS care.

The drug has become controversial after being promoted for use across Latin America and in South Africa, despite being so far unproven.

Previous studies of Ivermectin have generally been small or low quality.

Most commonly used to treat parasitic infections such as river blindness, spread by flies, Ivermectin has also been shown to kill viruses in petri dishes in the lab – although, at much higher doses than would usually be prescribed to people.

Ivermectin has been championed by many doctors and scientists since its apparent effectiveness as a Covid treatment emerged early in April 2020, but has been snubbed by mainstream health bodies for reasons that are unclear, leading some to suspect ulterior motives such as sustaining a vaccine narrative or prioritising newer and more profitable treatments. Merck, which manufactures Ivermectin but also recently signed a $356 million deal to supply the US with a much more expensive, experimental anti-Covid drug, went so far as to issue a statement casting doubt on the drug’s safety, even though its safety profile is well known and mild. Scientists trying to publish studies on the drug found the door being shut in their faces with apparent political motives for the refusal. Finally in May, the American Journal of Therapeutics published a peer-reviewed article by Dr Pierre Kory and colleagues entitled “Review of the Emerging Evidence Demonstrating the Efficacy of Ivermectin in the Prophylaxis and Treatment of COVID-19“. Dr Tess Lawrie and colleagues’ meta-analysis, finding a 62% reduction in risk of death among those infected or at high risk of Covid infection (on moderate-certainty evidence), was published in the same journal last week.

While, in a pandemic, the precautionary principle would seem to recommend authorising the use of safe, repurposed drugs that (small) trials have shown appear to work, health authorities apparently did not agree and said there must be higher quality evidence for Ivermectin before it can be approved. Yet because there is little profit in a cheap, out-of-patent drug these higher quality trials have not been done, leaving the drug still without approval or definitive evaluation over 14 months after its apparent efficacy against COVID-19 was discovered. If it does turn out to be as highly effective as the early studies suggest, this will mean the delay will have been responsible for failing to prevent many thousands of deaths around the world.

Still, better late than never, and credit to Oxford for including it in its study despite the politics around it. The Principle trial should provide the definitive answer as to whether Ivermectin is effective at preventing the progression to serious coronavirus disease when used at an early stage.

People aged 18-64 with an underlying health condition or experiencing breathlessness, and anyone aged 65 or over, can sign up to the Principle trial within 14 days of having Covid symptoms or receiving a positive test.

It’s a shame they can’t give it a different name. I don’t know about elsewhere in the world but here in NZ if you mention Ivermectin people instantly think cattle drench and that’s it.

Wonder if they’ll stack the deck like they did with HCQ ?

At this point I have no confidence in anything medical related that makes onto the mainstream media.

A lot of people would discount that interview with Carlson because “it’s Fox News”. A much more powerful example would be his evidence to the Texas State Senate Coronavirus hearings, where he first made the allegation that known treatments were deliberately trashed to enable the emergency licence for vaccines to be issued.

The recent very thorough and careful meta-analysis by Dr Tess Lawrie and others can be found here

Ivermectin for Prevention and Treatment of COVID-19 Infectio… : American Journal of Therapeutics (lww.com)

Even though their conclusions are very carefully worded so as not to cause too much upset in this current era of politically motivated science, it’s very clear what the evidence is telling us.

How many thousands died needlessly as a result of the political and economic machinations that denied them access to this provably safe and effective treatment?

Rudolph,
Spot on, there’s oodles of peer reviewed info out there concerning Ivermectin.
Vernon Coleman has a good video explaining the ‘why’ of the downplaying of the efficacy of Ivermectin as a prophylactic in treating potential cases of Sars Cov-2. 1. It’s so cheap at 0.03c (US) per dose (two are required), there’s no money in it. 2. It’s out of patent, so can be manufactured worldwide. Why else would Merck patent a new drug to replace Ivermectin? Follow the money.
I read ‘Bad Pharma’ years ago by Ben Goldacre. Highly prescient in light of current events. ‘Bad Science’ is worth a read too. Also by Goldacre.

Will they be able to find enough unvaccinated people to conduct the study?

The remaining untaxed aren’t going to be going to hospital anyway for covid. So there will be no difference with the control group.

Exactly. Actually I think the Pfizer vaccine trial suffered similar sorts of problems. For the Pfizer study they had to wait some time before there were “enough” people in both study arms showing symptoms/testing positive in order to make some analysis of efficacy. In the end it basically read like it was a study which exposed low levels of prevalance/high levels of immunity rather than one which showed a clear indication of efficacy.

TheBluePill

Stable, horse, bolted. Now prevalence is vanishingly low, they have ample opportunity to obfuscate by using absolute vs relative risk, now it works in their interests. Ivermectin will be found to have negligible benefits (just like the “vaccines”), or for good measure they might deliberately overdose the patients again.

Sadly the official inquiry has already ruled out anything you may be thinking, before it’s even started or it’s been decided who will take part. The only thing that has been decided is the qualifications needed to take part, i.e. you have to be fully behind the official narrative and “know” in advance that lockdown and vaccines were essential and saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

‘If it does turn out to be as highly effective as the early studies suggest,’ Early studies?! Try telling that to the thousands of Doctors around the world using it, from Texas to India.
Why are LDS so reluctant to tell it it as it is regarding vaccines and other readily available remedies? Clearly the legal ramifications of pushing experimental injections at a time of knowing there are better proven alternatives is paramount.

Brett_McS

The ‘small’ trials the article scoffs at show massive effects, many around 90% prevention of the need for hospitalization. Large trials are only needed to prove small effects. For large effects, small trials are perfectly valid. Ivermectin is already proven.

But let me guess. They will choose trial participants and a treatment regime which ensures the trial fails, the drug is discredited, leaving “vaccines” the only option.

“In India, the acid test was to compare the fates of those Indian areas that adopted the drug versus those that did not. This would be the ultimate natural experiment. Finally, the plain truth would be revealed to all the world. It was no longer the special interests, Big Pharma, Big Regulators, and Big Media, who had been censoring, swindling, and conniving. Now, off duty, they’ll be just another citizen in a country smart enough to have it written into their constitution that they’ve a right to bear arms. Biden is a prat when saying if they want to take on the Federal government that they’ll be needing F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons. If that geriatric criminal thinks these will protect him, he’s not read his history. The retreat of the British Army through Massachusetts, when militiamen (the “Minutemen”) were showing them what asymmetric warfare looks like, is a case in point. Having said that, no-one is beyond suspicion in this world and while I admire what these people are doing on the surface, and I want this crap to end yesterday, as I read Steve’s website he is still talking about vaccinating 7.5 billion people (he does say some people might not want that) and he also doesn’t place much emphasis on the not very remarkable mortality rate of Covid, if it even really exists as something genuinely novel which I am also not convinced about. I still find myself torn when assessing what is truly happening here. Everyone behaving like there is something monumental going on in virus world but I see NO EVIDENCE of this in the REAL WORLD. I see a LOT of fraud, and jiggery pokery – but I also see nothing going on to suggest that what they are saying is happening is ACTUALLY happening. I see the government making big moves in the name of corona but everything they are doing screams CRIME and FRAUD. It doesn’t matter what way you look at it – the people running this scam are lying and they need to be called out and sent to jail for their crimes. The people involved in pushing the jabs deserve to be swinging from lamp posts, they are responsible for the most sick depraved crimes since Adolf Hitler, no doubt about it. But buying into the new virus narrative just does not sit comfortably with me. It’s a riddle, that much is sure.

Absolutely right. I shall be handing out the rope in the Torch n’ Pitchfork rallies due later this year.
I’ve warned a few NHS doctors that when it becomes clear that they at best did nothing to protect their patients & in many cases were complicit if not active in the pain, suffering & death of thousands of their patients, there will not be enough police to protect them from the white hot anger of the relatives of those they’ve killed or allowed to be killed.
Most look quite frightened when I tell them this,
They are hoping you don’t notice,
You will, because Nuremberg 2.0 will have a long list of indictments & a much longer list of those accused of such crimes.

Much higher lethality than most Respiratory pathogens
No treatments
Asymptomatic transmission important
PCR a reliable test of infection/ infectiousness
Lockdowns work
Masks prevent transmission
Variants are different enough to escape acquired immunity

Why didn’t they??

They’re very good but several months late. Wolfgang Wodarg & I wrote a petition to EMA eight months ago (filed Dec 1 2020). All but one concern have been borne out.
Anaphylactoid reactions to PEG
Blood clots
Women raising antibodies to syncytin-1
(Wrong about luciferase, at least, not found to date).

With ten others, we wrote four open letters to EMA starting Feb 2021 explicitly predicting mass casualties from thromboembolic events. All our letters were censored even though we used a commercial news wire service to issue the letters as if they were a press release (& we had some good names as signatories).

My heroes are Kory, Raoult, McCullough, Hodkinson, Lawrie & others, fighting like hell to get patients access to safe & effective treatments, no matter the personal cost.
One of them, McCullough, is on the surface a nice guy, but those who’ve fucked with him haven’t done it twice.
Asked about any threats to himself, he commented darkly that they better have their resumes polished up.

With Kirsch and Malone, they are doing things which seem admirable. Kirsch putting his money where his mouth is, challenging the authorities via trialsitenews with $1million bets that they cannot prove the jabs are safe, releasing the very good “Safe & Effective” vid on the same site where he does the analysis of the deaths using government data which essentially proves the jabs have already caused a sizeable level of death in the States (25,000+ and he proves it) way over and above what is registered on VAERS. He does a lot of work promoting C19 drugs & vits and actually funds early treatment drug research. Ditto Malone who is uniquely positioned to offer insight. Malone has been a vocal opponent of the jab rollout (despite allegedly taking it himself which he says he did so because it was a condition of travel freedom which has a bad smell about… Read more »

But, if those watching on do not see this for what it really shows, that there is an industry designed to keep its medical tenticles buried in people for as long as possible using the most expensive treatments they can find. Curing people is not profitable.

Another clear example of this is heart disease. Many good therapies and treatments suppressed for the more profitable avenues

“Merck cast doubt on Ivermectin’s safety”.

Interestingly, a similar thing happened with apricot kernels/laetrile therapy as a preventive/cure for cancer. I read years ago about a long-running smear campaign against laetrile therapy by pharmaceutical companies. They were apparently more interested in selling expensive, patented “treatments” than inexpensive kernels. It seems their campaign worked as a few years ago the European Union set a limit on amygdalin content, effectively banning them.

Apparently they are toxic. (though not as toxic as some cancer treatments). This interested me as I have been eating several a day since years before the ban. Leaving aside whether they are effective (and certainly, there are lots of other measures that should also be taken rather than depending solely on this) my experience suggests that risks were exaggerated in a big pharma drive for profit. Yes, believe it or not, there are problems of corruption within the pharmaceutical industry. See Phillip Day’s “Cancer – Why We Are Still Dying To Know The Truth” (and his Credence website, and Campaign for Truth in Medicine).

One reason why I am suspicious of the hard sell on “vaccines”.

My family doctor and a number of other doctors I know elsewhere have been giving IV to trusted patients , but at the very onset of symptoms , and none died or was even hospitalized , except in few cases with heavy underlying ailments , which would have led to death in flu or bacterial infections too.
But the key is to take IV early on. First or second day of symptoms
