“You Can’t Run Society Purely to Stop the Hospitals Being Full” – Cabinet Member Jacob Rees-Mogg Says Lockdowns Must End
Leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg has said that the Government must stop taking charge of people’s lives “purely to prevent them seeing the doctor”. Speaking to Conservative Home, the Tory MP said:
Ultimately the NHS is there to serve the British people, not the British people there to serve the NHS. And therefore – we may need to spend more money on hospitals – but you can’t run society purely to stop the hospitals being full otherwise you’d never let us get in our cars and drive anywhere or do any of the other things that people want to do.
So there has to be some proportionality within that, that the Government doesn’t have the right to take charge of people’s lives purely to prevent them seeing the doctor.
Actually otherwise we’d never be allowed in our kitchens would we, where a disproportionate number of accidents in the home take place, or our bathrooms, so we’d become very hungry and very smelly on that basis.
This is one of the first signals of discontent among members of the Government about the interminable lockdowns the U.K has experienced since March 2020. Let’s hope more of the genuine liberals and conservatives in the Government will come out against lockdowns and the emerging public health tyranny.

JRM playing the token government dissenter part, maybe?
who cares? he’s correct.
He may be correct but I came to the same conclusion in March 2020. Where the fuck has he been up until now?
He ahd Big Teeth Brady had a little thinksypop and thought.. actually this great reset thing.. bit dumb.
When it mattered, he wasn’t there. What use is he now?
it still matters you stupid berk.
Only if you’re stupid enough to want to go ahead with this government and these politicians, as though nothing unusual happened this past 15 months.
It feels odd to be agreeing with fon (sorry fon, nothing personal) but while it’s true this government has been catastrophic, surely any genuine change of heart from any of them is a step in the right direction. It’s not going to turn them into the kind of small-c conservative govt that you (Mark) and I would like to see, but as long as we’re under no illusions about the scale of the climbdown required, it has to be better than nothing. Sooner or later we want to see some kind of sanity restored, and it has to come from somewhere. Longer term we probably need to see parties from the left and right that believe in personal freedom emerge, but until that happens anything that dents the lockdown narrative has got to be welcome.
There’s a bit of a confusion here I think between welcoming the fact that splits have opened up in government ranks on lockdown (which we both do), versus giving the likes of Rees-Mogg some kind of personal credit for this kind of hypocritical manoeuvring, that is far too little, far too late.
The latter I’m simply not going to do, and I don’t think any self-respecting opponent of lockdown should ever do that, given how much gratuitous damage the likes of Rees-Mogg have been party to inflicting on nation and society.
Fon! How are you? I was getting worried.
Haven’t changed sides too, have you?
Welcome.
aw come now.. IDS and Brady Big Teeth wrote the same article 6 or 7 times in the Daily Telegates saying how naughty it all was.
Jacob Rees-Mogg has been AWOL since March 2020. In the list of those who have raised concerns about the imposition of a defacto medico totalitarian state unfortunately his name has never been there.
Invert what he says and you get the full picture of what is planned down the road.
“more of the genuine liberals and conservatives in the Government”
If the past 15 months have demonstrated anything beyond any further honest dispute, it is that there are no conservatives nor liberals in this government.
No genuine liberal could be part of a government imposing lockdown without resigning.
No genuine conservative could be part of a government engaging in these literally unprecedented radical panic measures, based on worship of collectivist healthcare and funded by the magic money forest, without resigning.
It’s possible there might be the odd few remaining in the Parliamentary “Conservative” Party, but none in the government. This is a government of unprincipled liars, opportunists and cowards. To perdition with them all!
You are mistaken. NONE of this has been “based on worship of collectivist healthcare“. That has merely been the convenient excuse for what has been done to us. “How can we get UK population onside with this plan?” “Hmnn, think of an institution everyone loves – something very emotive” “I’ve got it – ‘Save the NHS’ – has a certain ring to it don’t you think?”
And downright MURDERERS.
Only taken the twat 15 months to figure this one out?
Clap.
Clap.
Clap.
Look, I’ll take any new members of the squad. Welcome aboard JRM. Late to the party. Perhaps you can locate Boris’ moral courage and give him his spine.
But come on, the motto of this lockdown has been found
Keep hungry and smelly and lockdown on.
Dangerous man to welcome anywhere. No empathy. No conscience. You’d be safer on a camping holiday with Hannibal Lecter!
You prefer the Scruffy Scarecrow as he uses words from the Georgian period to jolly you onto the Cattle trucks??
Its another falling domino and actually being reported, at this rate you may be able to mention Ivermectin on MS comments without being ‘reviewed’ or failing to meet guidelines by the end of August.
Who says he prefers Kim Jong Johnson?
Much as I have always hated rees-Mogg i am glad to see a sensible statement coming from him. When rats are fleeing the sinking ship of state I will try to be welcoming, at least to some extent. However, he really should have said this much earlier, eprhaps on march 24th 2020, back when it would have helped.
maybe he has only just copped on
So is Boris really acting in the National Interest ?….due to his stupid testing and fear regime the most vaccinated decent sized country in Europe, the UK, now has the highest number of cases….albeit without a material number of positive PCR results on the critical spike protein since Dec 2020…so we have a little spike in colds by the look of it.
Boris was lost to us all many months ago. Idiot. His strategic result is described in the below. Boris is an important tool of Big Pharma. UK is now the new Seychelles.

he’s a very sensible kind, and he’s quite right: Ultimately the NHS is there to serve the British people, not the British people there to serve the NHS. And therefore – we may need to spend more money on hospitals – but you can’t run society purely to stop the hospitals being full otherwise you’d never let us get in our cars and drive anywhere or do any of the other things that people want to do.
Don’t forget to lick his boots after tipping the cap.
I’d have said good things about him a couple of years ago, and indeed I have frequently defended him and his politics (or rather, what he pretended his views were, evidently).
But he was one of the Guilty Men. He’s not just a bystander in this, as you could say some of the backbenchers have been. He was part of the government that did this.
He could have and should have resigned, but he didn’t. He’s beyond the Pale now, as far as I’m concerned, and should be for anyone who recognises the harm and mendacity of the lockdown panic.
Never forget. Never forgive.
“Never forgive”. I disagree. Forgive us our trespasses (not the same as excusing).
Saying that, I do seem to remember a rather unhelpful comment he made some months back, a bit surprised it’s not been mentioned.
I understand the issues here with the Christian primacy for forgiveness, but that’s not really the issue we are dealing with here. “Never forget, never forgive” is here a political slogan, and it’s directed at the idea (perhaps exemplified here by fon) that people will inevitably be tempted to “move on” in due course, and keep these people in office in the future for political expediency reasons, whether (as here) because of some minor change in their supposed future attitudes to future lockdown policy or when other political issues are at stake in the future). Moreover, forgiveness even in the Christian sense is generally considered to require justice and genuine remorse before it can be applied. That is not remotely what we are seeing here from Rees-Mogg. For me, “never forget never forgive” as a political slogan does not preclude personal forgiveness of these Guilty Men, but it precludes it short of a rather remarkably thorough and highly unlikely imo confession of guilt and expression of remorse by them, and a proper process of accountability. Until then, as I have said, they should be regarded as beyond the Pale as far as any personal political support is concerned. We must… Read more »
He’s a despicable POS who should burn with the rest of them. Minister for the 1800s. He hasn’t got a selfless bone in his body. Likely one comment was correct and he’s positioning himself for a leadership challenge. No doubt the self flagellating morons in the former ‘red wall’ constituencies will line up to doff their caps to him.
Selflessness is a sin, not a virtue
Only for fanboys of Ayn Rand.
JRM, the useful idiot, who is now very obviously not a part of the inner circle of the Great Resetters and depopulationers.
Poor sod, he likely even had the real gene therapy instead of the saline solution that the Royals, Johnson, Hancock, Gove, Starmer, Blair&co got.
Forget the ‘useful’ bit.
Course he’s not a depopulationer, he’s Catholic (though admittedly that doesn’t explain blair
Blair is not a Catholic. He lied (surely not) to get his kids into a better school. If he was a true Catholic the knowledge of what awaits him would have driven him mad by now………hang on a minute!
Wife’s Catholic, not Bliar.
Get the MP’s back to work, Johnson was all over at the G7, covid is less of a threat than this dictatorship Johnson is running. They need to be back, debating at least doing something for their salary, my MP stopped communicating over a year ago, not seen since.
Go round to his house? Where can they be hiding?
so what doesnt change our current predicament bla bla bla
I wish I had a quarter for every story I’ve read saying that the hospitals were being “over-run” or soon would be. Has one hospital in the world actually been “over-run?” Were any patients put on the streets anywhere?
In my town, our hospital was a ghost town for most of the pandemic. Hospitals are going under because they didn’t have enough paying patients.
No they were never overrun in the conventional sense. They got their knickers in a twist though by the ridiculous policies of social distancing, testing, contract tracing, isolation, etc which meant they didn’t have enough staff or space. But don’t fear, they got through it by just closing most of their services for other patients. They probably didn’t really need treatment anyway.
yes – all those cancer patients. ABSOLUTE DISGRACE
He’s far too late of course, but late is always better than never.
Suspect he realizes that de Pfeffel is finished and is possibly looking at a leadership challenge in the not too distant future.
Bullshit. Only saying it because it’s popular. Remember when he was bigging up that fascist Neil O Brien?
https://bylinetimes.com/2021/01/27/conservatives-divided-scourge-of-lockdown-sceptics-neil-obrien-mp-receives-government-backing/
Never forgive, never forget.
that’s the comment I was thinking of, shocking and distasteful
“_People should be held to account for what they say”. Quite. And there was no second wave, just respiratory deaths fairly close to seasonal norms, increased by the “vaccine” roll out apparently.
I had forgotten that. Thank you for the reminder
“you’d never let us get in our cars and drive anywhere or do any of the other things that people want to do.” I think you will find that this is precisely the intention of this entire shit show from day one. All part of the great green reset as sponsored by the WEF and their good friend MrG.
I used to have a great deal of respect for Mr Rees-Mogg, and was disappointed by his silence.
Then again, I used to have a lot of respect for Bozo, so I’m probably not a very astute political commentator.
I do think Mr Rees-Mogg’s religious faith might be his saving grace though. It’s always good for an MP to have an alternative master to the devil, even if it’s the Vatican.
Crikey, Johnson got married in a Catholic church for a reason, Rees-Mogg being a left-footer is no ‘saving grace’.
The continuing deference to the ‘toffs’ in the UK is a stark reminder why the country is in its present mess.
Where the hell has he been?
No sh it Sherlock.
Where have you been hiding for the past 15 months ?
Its about time that Jacob Rees Mogg wrote a stiff letter to the Times.
This has gone on long enough.
Has he just woke up ?
Is anyone going to do anything about care home workers being forced to get the jab? NHS workers soon to follow and my wife is one such person…I am deeply, deeply troubled by this move
I have seen several posts from Dr’s online the last year or so in various places, inc. one posted on this site (somewhere) from a GP who had been in regular contact with Sir Graham Brady. Many have said they will not get the jab because it will not prevent covid transmission, nor is it even designed to prevent covid transmission, per the BMJ: “None of the trials currently under way are designed to detect a reduction in any serious outcome such as hospital admissions, use of intensive care, or deaths. Nor are the vaccines being studied to determine whether they can interrupt transmission of the virus.”
Seems like a pretty important distinction to me!
https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4037
Is that the doctor from Timperley health centre (the name’s bee on here before, so noy giving anything away)?
Either way, it’s a disgraceful decision to coerce care home workers, and potentially health care workers. One thing is certain, they will lose some jolly good, caring staff if they go through with this madness (causing untold suffering to them and those they would have cared for).. These sort of crooks though have shown with adoption agencies that they don’t care what harm they do if something fits their wider agenda.
One would have to ask WTF.the trials are ‘designed to detect’ then?
WTF was the consultation for if they intended to make it compulsory anyway?
The trials were designed to determine if the “vaccines” reduced the severity of the disease, thus if you are more or less likely to die if you get it. The Pfizer one determined a relative reduction in risk of something like 94% but in fact the ABSOLUTE risk reduction was 0.8% for that dataset.
It does appear that the jabs reduce transmission by “up to 50%” but they are FAR from being 100% sterilising vaccines. So not much better than flu shots and FAR more harmful because the “spike” protein that they cause your cells to make is pathogenic and neurotoxic just as the virus’s spike protein is pathogenic and neurotoxic.
The mRNA and Adenovirus-vectored DNA technologies MIGHT be a real breakthrough in disease control, but YEARS of research and testing are needed before they can be called “safe and efficacious”.
And there’s an element of fraud to call the products “vaccines” at all, partly taking advantage of popular misunderstanding, and weaseling round the safety assessment protocols for brand new drugs etc, and taking advantage of the declaration of an “emergency” to make it happen.
I hope that someone organises something. A court case should be sufficient as the Nuremberg code is utterly clear that what is proposed is illegal. Trouble is the courts are there to protect those in power, not the little man/woman.
“Supreme” courts? thankyou very much, mr blair
Regarding being forced to take the jab, I heard this yesterday: a friend was in A&E last week. In the bed beside him was an elderly, rather unkempt man, snoring heavily and on painkillers. At about 4.30am two nurses crept over to the snoring man and moments later, my friend heard one of them say, ‘Which one did you give him?’ The other nurse replied. ‘The Pfizer one.’
Note, this was in Hungary, not Britain. But nevertheless, alarming behaviour and totally unethical.
I don’t trust that rancid fake as far as I could spit out a live rat.
Ooh, a downtick. Yeah the pretend defender of liberty Jacob Mogadon is going to ride to the rescue as soon as he gets out of his coma.
He described that repulsive Lavrenti Beria impersonator O’Brien as doing a great job. Snake.
Correct.
IF they had spent all the billions that have been wasted on track and trace, useless PPE andvface masks and mass testing of millions a week we could have had an NHS service capable of dealing with anything.
Instead, we were told that there was no cure for covid, they closed the hospitals causing a backlog that will cost further billions, and spent further billions on a vaccine that would not have been needed if they had given everyone a packet of zinc acetate supplement, doxycycline and invermectin tablets, which could undoubtedly be supplied in bulk for less than £5 per head.

From India BUT it now requires a prescription (didn’t used to)
I saw a bunch of people rock climbing today. Maybe they should ban that too, just in case…
Go to the Conservative Party website and what do you see?

Build Back Better.
If anyone thinks the Tories are anything other than henchmen for Billie Boy and Klaus at this point, you may need to see a shrink.
Yes. I understand they were pushing build back better at the G7 summit as an alternative to China’s belt and road. How worried should we be?
You have to wonder. Has he only just started to wake up?
A state mandated lockdown was never necessary. The government could have left it to individuals and businesses to decide their own strategy and mandated nothing. That way those who wanted to stay at home could do so, and the rest of us could have gotten on with our lives.
What I would like to know is did he just come to this conclusion, or has he been ‘allowed’ to express it at last?
The government is absolutely to blame but so are the masses for falling for their lies. 71% approve of the extended lockdown? Ye Gods, how did the human race survive this long? – if they can be manipulated in a matter of weeks, into a trembling morass of compliant, obedient sheep like the lorry full of bleating fat lambs, as it passed my place ten minutes ago, taking them to the slaughterhouse.
Mr Rees Mogg, where have you been while the rest of the cabinet and their acolytes have been ‘swanking about in footer bags’?
Probably somewhere where he doesn’t pay tax, nor having to shell out for the shambles over here.
