Rule, Britannia! Britannia Take the Knee
We’re publishing an original essay today about the decline of Britain into an authoritarian, one-party state by Dr. James Alexander, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Bilkent University in Turkey. I say “essay”, but it’s more of a splenetic howl of rage – and all the better for that. Here is Dr Alexander’s opening salvo:
Britons are slaves and if they are not yet fully enslaved then there is certainly every sign that they wish to be slaves, and this is what all the taking the knee and taking the jab is about. If we do not want to be slaves, then we need beliefs which will enable us to confound the politics of others. And we also need to maintain a politics of justified opposition – something which collapsed during the pandemic.
The BBC was right, by its own standards, to try to erase the words from the performance of Rule, Britannia at the Last Night of the Proms last year: because these words are no longer part of the official ideology of the United Kingdom. Let us consider its most famous lines, and some of the best lines from ‘God Save the Queen’:
Rule, Britannia! Britannia rule the waves!
Britons never, never, never will be slaves!
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks…
In recent times we might as well be signing these lines instead:
Ruled, Britannia! Britannia take the knee!
Britons never, never, never shall be free!
Adopt their politics,
Applaud their knavish tricks…
Worth reading in full. Bracing stuff.

Dr James Alexander: Legend.
They voted to be slaves
“some of the best lines from ‘God Save the Queen’”
You have to be a bit squint-eyed to find any lines of worth in that drivelling dirge!
Best in this context clearly means those lines most pertinent to the thrust of the article.
I see from the down-votes that the humourless tone deaf iliterates (and/or monarchist knee-takers) are abroad. 🙂
P.S. The whole point about ‘God Help Brenda’ is that it indicates the prior susceptibility of ‘Britons’ to bend a submissive knee to fakery – as we see now.
Well if you don’t like it go and live in another country. Frankly, we could do with a lot less of your sort here so just p**s off
Chilling but true!
Great rant!
I picked up this quote from a guy in the US about not requiring to wear a mask.
I think this says it all really. Its not about a virus, its about a statement of conformity, of wishing to be a slave.
My grandparents generation will be turning in their graves if they could see what my generation has allowed to happen to our country.
I think, like mine, they’re probably glad to be in their graves, well out of this madness, not wanting anything to do with such fools. I’m starting to think they’re better off too.
The “Rule Britannia” cartoon above is one of James Gillray’s published in 1793. It s captioned:- “Britannia between Scylla and Charybdis”.
Pitt is steering the boat to the “Haven of Public Happiness” – the sharks are Sheriden, Fox and Prieistly.
There is a Wikipedia page devoted to this cartoon which provides a more complete image and more information – but for some reason I can’t attach a link to it
There is still a patriotic middle class and a patriotic working class. The upper class have always been internationalist except for an odd few. The working class have lost their old social structures to de-industrialisation and their old physical strongholds to immigrants. The middle class have been cowed into silence for fear of upsetting those same immigrants – even though they virtually never see them. So there we have it – a people who have discarded or lost their roots and are drifting in the hope that some big brother will clutch them up and look after them till they die. What society looks like is neither here nor there – most people (except the 10% refusniks like us) will put up with anything for safety and being accepted as normal.
Brilliantly put. The welfare state has taken away all personal responsibity so that most people go from one pay day to the other without any planning for the future. The NHS is the new religeon and nothing matters but money.
Bang on. I’m sick to death of the cowards in this country.
If it helps, I would enjoy using a bit of sneer and smear, but I was brought up to be polite and believe that such tactics detracted from my argument and demeaned me as a person. Sort of, ‘never post anything you wouldn’t like your grandma to see, or that would embarrass you in a job interview’.
Snivelling shitweasel seems to fit Hancock. Dissembling useless windbag suits Boris.
Ferguson:-I have no words in my lexicon other than despicable, over-promoted nonentity.
Whitty and Vallance: needing a giant dose of humility.
Gates: his Jimmy Savile moment is surely coming or there is no God.
