Pubs Close Their Beer Gardens as Poor Weather Keeps Punters Away

Profits at pubs that have access to outdoor space have – as expected – been dampened by poor weather. A triple whammy of heavy rain, high winds and low temperatures has kept pub-goers away from exposed beer gardens today. MailOnline has more.

The Environment Agency had two flood alerts in place for England today – one for the River Sow and River Penk in Stafford, and the other covering the River Burn from Waterden to Burnham Thorpe in Norfolk.

The Met Office said parts of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales could see five inches of rain between 6am today and midnight tonight, while BBC Weather said wind gusts in County Antrim reached 59mph this morning.

Pubs across England – such as in North Staffordshire and the West Midlands – have been forced to close temporarily because of the weather, and not for the first time. A publican at The Fox in Shipley told the Express and Star that ongoing Covid rules are “really affecting the business”.

I would say the rain has stopped people from coming out.

If people are dining and it rains they’ve got nowhere to go because we can’t let them go inside because of Covid rules and so it’s really affected the business.

We’ve had to close and we’re only doing short days, too. We didn’t open on bank holiday Monday because of the weather and it’s affected us big time…

We made a decision to close on the bank holiday last Thursday when we saw the weather forecast.

We thought it’s silly staffing the place knowing full-well what was coming.

The weather is expected to improve a little tomorrow, but the uncertainty caused by Covid regulations is keeping many publicans on edge – highlighting the importance of legal challenges against the delayed reopening of indoor hospitality.

The MailOnline report is worth reading in full.

Disobedience is not so easy, when the fascist state can impose swingeing penalties.

As individuals, we can expect to get away with private indiscretions, at least until the surveillance state is built around us. For a public-facing business, such as a pub or restaurant, there is little prospect of avoiding the wrong arm of the law, which, sadly, has the effect of turning the staff, of these establishments, into unpaid agents of oppression, as far as the (more enlightened of their) customers are concerned.

Correct.Mass civil disobedience will fix this. What will they do if millions disobey?

I’m also in favour of a mass-tax rebellion. Starve the beast and tell these authoritarians exactly what you think of them.

They need to organise resistance.

Not sure if that was deliberate or not but waiting for someone else to lead the way is not the way to get anything started.

They could start by putting a little scepticism into their own minds, and their own notices. Some of our local hostile-ries are surrounded by lists of rules that make Colditz sound like a holiday resort, making a visit there as unpleasant as it can possibly be. If you alienate your natural allies – your customers – and collaborate actively in your own destruction you’ve only yourself to blame.

We need to buy a replacement armchair so accessed the SCS store in Kidderminster online to find out that you need to arrange an appointment.
Guess what SCS?, stick your store, your appointments and most of all; your armchairs up your rear end (sidewards).

Does anyone actually use that pub? Jeez!

There’s no reason why Pubs cannot display a sign saying they are against the rules but to operate at all they have to stick to the bare minimum. They could thank their customers for understanding. Also staff could choose to have an ‘against my will’ mask or shirt if they wish. It would then be possible to see which establishments deserve custom.

Stand in The Park in a park near you 10 – 11 every Sunday, meet like minded people, share experience and …hug!

Which is the real reason for social distancing, contact restrictions etc..
I apparently recently influenced someone to cancel their gene therapy appointment after having met up with them.
That would not have happened without the relaxation of the rules….

I need YOU to resist. I’ve told a few million people that government and advisors have lied to us for more than a year.
Unless people resist, we’re imminently under VaxPass totalitarian tyranny with no way back.
I don’t understand how people can’t see how dangerous VaxPass is, even if you’ve believed everything you’ve been told.

I can see it, but then my awareness of what it was like for families living under totalitarian regimes is a little higher than many. Only saw one granny twice in my life, a relative last saw his mum when he was 15, and not again for another 30 years, and then only once more after that. All due to state restrictions and rules. People are whinging about not seeing granny in a care home for a year, they have no idea of how much worse it can be.

Actually that’s even more reason to stand up against these ‘passports’. Saying things could be worse is surrender by another name.

Sloppy grammar on my part. I was not saying “never mind it could be worse”, I meant it’s going to get much much worse than most people today can possibly imagine. They have no idea of the restrictions and consequences that can arise from failure to capitulate to a totalitarian regime.

Sorry – but that’s a non-argument.

It’s like the one inflicted on children about eating up because of thousands starving in Africa.

There may be virtue in not wasting food, and starving millions are no myth – but the two are unrelated.

People can’t see how dangerous is VaxPass simply because they Have believed everything they’ve been told. And they lack imagination, historical perspective, and common sense.

In Italy, many restaurants and bars have resorted to being open for the initiated only upon mentioning a code word after knocking on the door in morse or so.
That’s the spirit, and the way forward.

Beer gardens, schmeer gardens – de Pfeffel’s never been to a proper pub. Him and his irreversible effing pint.

JayBee

I’ve said it before: every single policy, restriction, mandate etc. including this one has had, has and will just have one effect: making people more sick and thereby reducing the average life expectancy.
And that was, is and will all be done deliberately and on purpose by the dictators and their many helpers in business, the ‘civil service’, ‘journalism’, ‘science’ and ‘medicine’.

Not just that – I actually think a lot of what they do is for their sheer amusement and to take the piss out of the poor plebs. So the proles want the pubs to open? Lets make ’em sit in freezing, wet beer gardens for weeks. Green list holidays? Let’s stick on places which won’t let anyone in like Australia and a few lumps of rock in the middle of nowhere which take a week on a boat to get to. What larfs!

It’s occurred to me that there is an analogy between pubs and authoritarian government.

In the case of pubs stringent rules are enacted in an attempt to jump hoops and placate customers who are perceived to need reassurance and order. The opposite effect happens. Customers are driven away because there expectations are no longer met.

In the case of governments the same holds true. They will tighten their fist in an attempt to appear competent and in control but the opposite effect than that intended occurs in that an increasingly sizable group of the population becomes suspicious and loses respect. They no longer want to patronise their government.

What’s needed is some anti prohibitions (because this is exactly what Government laws are today) actions like the 20’s/30′ USA. Lots of bootlegging operations and tax dodging (alcohol).

I’m frequently amazed at how much this coronavirus nonsense has made me detest people that I formerly held in high regard. Scientists. Journalists. The British police. Australians and New Zealanders.

Just yesterday I saw a commercial for British Airways. A mum, dad, young son and flight attendant all happily seated, and all – except for the child -wearing “face coverings”. It made me wonder about where I might be able to buy a surface to air missile.

I don’t think I’m alone in harbouring such thoughts.

You are definitely not alone. I am building a totally unreasonable resentment towards those who grasp at the tiniest straw, profusely thanking their goalers for it. I believe all actors who have appeared and/voiced over Government propaganda should be considered collaborators and banned from working in the industry when the reckoning comes. The BBC must be refunded as well. Actions must be seen to have consequences.

Westminster will be collectively rubbing their greasy hands together like the villains they are, giddy at the prospect of the eradication of the British pub.
