International Travel Restrictions Likely to Be In Place For Some Time, Says Nicola Sturgeon

Concerns over new Covid variants continue to hamper the narrative regarding Britain’s unlock. Nicola Sturgeon has warned that restrictions on international travel should not be lifted too soon because of the “big risk” of importing Covid variants into the UK. Scotland’s First Minister also told Sophy Ridge on Sky News that the British Government’s “traffic light” system for international travel is not fit for purpose because “we don’t know where the next dangerous variant will come from“.

The Daily Record has the story.

Nicola Sturgeon has warned Scotland faces a “big risk” of importing new variants of the coronavirus if restrictions on international travel are lifted too soon.

The First Minister admitted lifting travel abroad “too quickly” last year which allowed the virus to re-seed amongst the population, which then lead to a second national lockdown.

Speaking on the Sophy Ridge on Sunday show, the SNP leader said Scots face living longer with international travel restrictions due to the risk of importing new strains of Covid.

She added: “The big risk that we face, not just in Scotland but in the UK, is the importation of new variants of the virus.

“Variants that might be faster spreading, that might be more severe, and crucially variants that might undermine the efficacy of the vaccines.

“We have to be very careful about that which is why I think one of the restrictions we’re all going to have to live with for longer is a restriction on international travel.

“We must not allow the progress we are making domestically to be undermined by a too lax position on international travel.”

… Asked about the fast-spreading Indian variant, Sturgeon said: … “It is a variant of interest as oppose to a variant of concern.”

‘Variants that MIGHT be faster spreading, MIGHT be more severe and . . . MIGHT undermine the efficacy othe vaccine . . .”

Which is what they said about at least three other variants, none of which turned out to be problematic.

Yet another them and us rule. By now, it must be obvious to the sheep that these rules are not applicable to the ruling classes.

So it’s zero Covid then. Bit reminiscent of a line from (I think) a Clint Eastwood film “Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining”

This just in:
Early Reports of U.K. Variant’s Lethality Appear Greatly ExaggeratedThe COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7, also known as the U.K. variant, was not associated with more severe disease in hospitalized patients versus non-variant strains, but it does appear to be more transmissible, British researchers found.
Most research supports the idea that B.1.1.7 is more transmissible, but a report released by the British government in February concluded, “it is likely that infection with … B.1.1.7 is associated with an increased risk of hospitalisation and death compared to infection with non-[variant] viruses

Interesting how non-information about variants gets circulated so quickly, whilst actual information about the real efficacy of the ‘vaccines’ is suppressed.

UK needs to take the lead and just open up its borders. Living with the virus is infinitely preferable to lockdowns of any sort.

What have we had for the last year, and look like having indefinitely, if not a ‘half life’?

Tyrants depend on people’s ignorance, inaction, or apathy to confiscate power. They are cunningly deceptive. They claim their mission is altruistic so it is worth giving up your liberty on the pretext of being in your best interest. Tyrants operate by suppressing liberty in small steps under false pretenses. They target one group at a time. They depend on those unaffected to remain silent because the lost liberty doesn’t immediately affect them but as liberty incrementally disappears, every group will ultimately be targeted. In short order, freedom is eventually lost by all.

I suppose a small mercy for seeing her face so often is that she is so well known she will have to stay in Scotland. Meanwhile the good people of Scotland will drive to Newcastle, Manchester or Liverpool to fly.

A dyslexic haggis has more commonsense than she does.

I would be very good if scotland would go, it’s been a big cash drain. The balkanisation of Britain in long over due. Wales would fare far better, being much less dependent on English aid at present . Perhaps we can settle a lot of scores in the aftermath of covid. Wales and Scotland could get rid of 50m broke slobby people in the English overpopulated sink-estate slums of London, Bristol, Liverpool, (Sunderland FFS!),Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham and hundreds of other broke towns. Yep it would be good to shed England, and leave them to get on as best they can. We’d throw them a bone obvsly over the border to keep them alive. But Wales and Scotland have to dump England now, no reason to keep dead weight on board for old time’s sake.

On James Delingpole’s recent podcast with his guest Mike Yeadon (early April 2021), MY said that these variants are only a tiny bit different from the original and nowhere near enough for it to cause problems. He also stated that those in SAGE are smart and would definitely know this and so he suspects it is about control.

But really; who would want control of a bankrupt, assetless broken-down trashed place like England? Think about it? Management of England is a already big headache due to its run down piss poor cities and towns, Nobody would want that job badly or have anything to do with it, I hoping Scotland and Wales will eject England from the putative Celtic Union. England just does not fit in, anywhere in the world. It’s an ugly, rejected, featureless landscape totally finished. The only nice parts, Cornwall. Cumbria, are half Celtic anyway. England has to go and find a way to stand on her own legs. But England has to go.

Scots can decide like Welsh, on may 6th, whether to embrace.

English totalitarianism. Or any other path to Normal life.

Since the combination of lockdown and vaccination has driven down infections (see chart below), one can hardly blame sensible Celtic nations that chose vaccination, with an emphasis on science (vaccine).

I think I’m through with England now, you’re too far gone, and highly unpleasant nowadays. I’m voting Plaid Cymru, we don’t need or want you now, the EU is a better bet. I’m out.

If only lockdown sceptics could focus on lockdowns, many travesties could have been averted, instead ignorant knuckle-heads resist both lockdowns AND vaccine. Result : total failure, lockdown sceptics have become synonymous with ignorant covid deniers AND thicko anti-vaxxers and hence made zero impact, which is all England deserves.

You cannot have the moon on a stick. Your parents should have told you that. It’s time to grow up.

Too many freaks, cranks and knuckle-heads, around this place. You’re finished since you spent all your effort fighting lockdown and vaccination at the same time, you ignorant fools.

Judging by your statistical skills you must design Liberal Democrat by-election posters in your day job.

I’ve read all your recent comments. Not only is your grasp of the English language tenuous at best, your lack of political insight is downright alarming. Your comments betray no understanding of political theory or ideology, and you make no attempt to qualify or quantify your very insulting and apparently ignorant opinions. Please stop posting nonsense, and if you want to post a chart to back up what you’re saying, at least post the complete chart with proper referencing in place.

Seeing the photograph of the power mad fish face in a helicopter makes me want to share the following; in the hope it will bring a smile to some faces here present……… Nicola Sturgeon was visiting a Scottish primary school and the class was in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked Ms. Sturgeon if she would like to lead the discussion on the word ‘Tragedy’. So the illustrious SNP leader asked the class for an example of a ‘Tragedy’. A little boy stood up and offered, “If ma best freen, wha’ lives on a ferm, is playin’ in the field and a tractor rins ower him and kills him, that wid be a tragedy.” “Incorrect”, said Nicola, in her best trying-not-to-sound-too-patronising-Scottish-accent, “That would be an accident.” A little girl raised her hand, “If a school bus kerryin’ fifty children drove ow’r a cliff, killing a’body inside, that wid be a tragedy” ‘I’m afraid not’, explained Nicola, “that’s what we would refer to as a great loss’’. The room went silent. No other children volunteered. The First Minister searched the room. “Isn’t there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?”… Read more »
